The short answer
There is no single best ore in Midnight, and that is the most useful thing to know before you pick a zone. The three base ores trade close together at each grade: right now Gold grade copper sells for 24 gold36 silver, Gold silver for 21 gold31 silver and Gold tin for 19 gold60 silver, and the Silver grades sit at 4 gold98 silver, 5 gold21 silver and 5 gold65 silver. The rare bonus ore,
Dazzling Thorium, sells for 8 gold85 silver. What decides your income is your Gold grade share and how many deposits you reach, not which ore you chase. Mine every base deposit you pass, sell the ore raw unless you are a skilled Blacksmith, and pick the zone that gives you the most deposits with the fewest fights.

Every raw ore broke above its two week high that day, in both grades. That is not one ore getting hot; it is the whole metal market lifting at once, which usually means a wave of crafting demand. When everything rises together, the ranking between ores barely changes. The alloys sat near the top of their ranges but mostly did not break out, which tells you crafters were paying more for ore without yet getting more for alloys. Squeezes like that tend to ease within days, so a week like this is a good time to sell ore you have banked.
The ranges also show which items swing hardest. Gold grade copper moved by more than a factor of three inside two weeks. The Silver grade ingot moved by about 16 percent. If you want predictable sales, the processed goods are steadier. If you want the best price, sell raw ore into spikes.
Value per ore across every path
This is the comparison nobody prints. Suppose you hold Silver grade ore, which is what most deposits give a miner who is still building their Gold share. What is each ore worth to you on each path? Using the 2026-10-08 snapshot and Luminant Flux at 60 silver:
| Path | Ore used | Value returned, after flux | Value per ore |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sell Silver copper raw | 1 | 4 gold80 silver | 4 gold80 silver |
| Sell Silver silver raw | 1 | 4 gold42 silver | 4 gold42 silver |
| Sell Silver tin raw | 1 | 5 gold15 silver | 5 gold15 silver |
| Smelt Silver copper to a Silver ingot | 5 | 17 gold59 silver | 3 gold52 silver |
| Smelt Silver copper to a Gold ingot | 5 | 46 gold70 silver | 9 gold34 silver |
| Silver inputs to Silver Sterling Alloy | 21 | 59 gold | 2 gold81 silver |
| Silver inputs to Gold Sterling Alloy | 21 | 157 gold85 silver | 7 gold52 silver |
| Silver inputs to Silver Gloaming Alloy | 21 | 57 gold84 silver | 2 gold75 silver |
| Silver inputs to Gold Gloaming Alloy | 21 | 150 gold1 silver | 7 gold14 silver |
The 21 ore for an alloy are six silver or tin ore plus the fifteen copper ore inside three ingots, and the flux line covers all ten Luminant Flux: four for the alloy and two for each ingot.
Read the table in two halves. Every path that keeps the same grade, Silver in and Silver out, returned less per ore than selling raw. Every path that upgrades Silver inputs to a Gold result returned more, and the best of them was the simplest: smelting Silver copper into a Gold ingot, at about 9 gold34 silver per ore against 4 gold80 silver raw. The catch is that only a Blacksmith with a strong setup lands Gold results from Silver inputs, and we have not measured how often. So the table gives you a target, not a promise.
The decision table
| If you are... | Do this | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A miner with no crafting profession | Sell everything raw, Gold grade in batches | same grade crafting lost value on every path |
| A Blacksmith who rarely lands Gold results | Sell raw, smelt only what you need for your own crafts | Silver to Silver smelting returned less than raw |
| A Blacksmith who often lands Gold results from Silver inputs | Smelt Silver copper into Gold ingots first, then alloys | the best value per ore in our table |
| An Engineer | Sell Gold ore; craft Soul Sprockets only if your Gold share is high | Silver grade parts lost value on our snapshot |
| A Jewelcrafter | Prospect a test batch before deciding | yields are unmeasured; gems can beat raw ore |
| Holding a bank of Gold grade ore | Sell into two week highs | Gold ore swings the most of any metal |
| Holding Dazzling Thorium | Sell steadily | it fell by about nine tenths across the season and then went flat |
Your Gold share is the real lever
Since the three ores trade so close together, the variable that changes your income most is the share of your ore that lands at Gold grade. Here is a worked example with the 2026-10-08 prices, averaging the three ores to about 4 gold79 silver at Silver grade and 26 gold96 silver at Gold grade:
| Gold share | Out of 100 ore | Value of the 100 ore (2026-10-08) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 percent | 90 Silver grade, ten Gold grade | 700 gold70 silver |
| 25 percent | 75 Silver grade, twenty five Gold grade | 1,033 gold25 silver |
| 50 percent | 50 Silver grade, fifty Gold grade | 1,587 gold50 silver |
Moving from one ore in ten at Gold to one in four raised the value of the same hundred ore by about half. Moving to one in two more than doubled it. No choice of ore comes close to that effect. So if you want mining to pay more, put your effort into your Mining skill, your specialization points and your tools before you worry about which deposit to chase. Our Eversong Woods guide lists the pickaxe ladder in our datamine, from the copper only Thalassian Pickaxe to the Sunforged Pickaxe that needs Sterling Alloy and Dazzling Thorium.
We have not measured what Gold share a given setup produces. The point of the table is the shape: income grows much faster with Gold share than with ore choice.
Quick questions
Is Umbral Tin the best ore because it is the most expensive? Only by a whisker on our snapshot, and the lead changes from day to day. Mine all three.
Is Dazzling Thorium the best ore? Per unit, no. On 2026-10-08 one Gold grade base ore was worth about three thorium. Thorium is a welcome bonus, not a target.
Should I smelt everything before selling? Only if your Blacksmithing setup upgrades Silver ore into Gold ingots. Otherwise smelting returned less than selling raw on our snapshot.
Does the zone change which ore is best? No. The ore items are the same everywhere and sell on one region wide market.
Why the ores trade so close together
It helps to know why no ore runs away from the others. Each ore has a deep crafting chain behind it. Silver goes into Sterling Alloy, which our datamine shows in 56 recipes. Tin goes into Gloaming Alloy, in 52 recipes, and into both basic Engineering parts. Copper goes into the ingot, which has 44 recipes of its own including both alloys. Most high end crafted weapons and plate need both alloys at once, so the three ores are pulled by the same crafts. If one ore got much cheaper, crafters would still need the other two in fixed amounts, and the cheap ore would recover as soon as they bought it.
To see the pull in raw numbers, break three of the heaviest crafts in our datamine down to the ore inside them. Each alloy holds six of its own ore plus three copper ingots, and each ingot holds five copper ore:
| Craft | Alloys and ingots in the recipe | Copper ore inside | Tin ore inside | Silver ore inside |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spellbreaker's Blade | 8 Gloaming, 6 Sterling | 210 | 48 | 36 |
| Blood Knight's Warblade | 10 Gloaming, 6 Sterling | 240 | 60 | 36 |
| Ren'dorei Anvil (decor) | 5 Gloaming, 5 Sterling, 18 ingots | 240 | 30 | 30 |
Copper is the volume ore by a mile. One Spellbreaker's Blade pulls 210 copper ore through its alloys, more than twice the tin and silver combined. At Silver grade prices on 2026-10-08 the ore inside that blade was worth about 1,414 gold32 silver, and copper was about 71 percent of it. This is why copper holds its price close to the other two: the alloy recipes eat it in bulk.
Dazzling Thorium is the exception. It has 48 recipes, but in each one it is a small slice of the bill next to the alloys and Tormented Tantalum. Its price does not have to keep up with the base ores, and it has not. Read our Dazzling Thorium guide for the full story.
Picking your zone
Because the ore is the same everywhere, zone choice is about deposit count, fights and side drops. Zone levels come from the client; the rest is player reports, labelled.
| Zone | Levels | Themed mote (reports) | In short (reports) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zul'Aman | 83 to 88 | Wild Magic | dense, balanced fights |
| Eversong Woods | 80 to 83 | Light | calm, best for learning |
| Harandar | 83 to 88 | Primal Energy | better for herbs and Jewelcrafters |
| Voidstorm | 88 to 90 | Pure Void | most deposit rich in some reports; toughest mobs |

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355

No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.
A simple plan for your next session
- Check the strip at the top of this page. Note which ores are above their 14-day highs.
- Pick the zone that suits your level and gear, using the table above.
- Mine every base deposit. Each one is also a Dazzling Thorium chance.
- At the end, sort Gold and Silver grades.
- Sell Gold grade ore in batches, starting with any ore above its range.
- If you are a Blacksmith, smelt a test batch of Silver copper and count the Gold ingots. Keep smelting only if your share beats the raw price.
- Sell thorium in small amounts and keep a few for your own profession tools.
What to watch
Watch the alloys against the ores. When ore prices climb and alloy prices do not, Blacksmiths are being squeezed and will slow down; ore prices tend to ease a few days later. Watch the Gold over Silver ratio, which sat between about five and six and a half for the base ores on our snapshot; if it widens, crafters are paying up for top grade inputs. And watch patch notes for new recipes, new tiers of profession tools and housing updates, since decor recipes alone can eat 12 to 18 ingots each.
Is mining worth it in Midnight?
On our data, yes: three base ores with deep crafting chains, a rare bonus chance on every deposit, and Gold grade ore worth five to six and a half times its Silver grade. What we will not give you is an hourly figure. No route on this site has been walked and timed yet, so the honest answer is the set of inputs above: live prices, ranges, recipes and the arithmetic to choose between selling, smelting and crafting. For each ore in depth, start with Refulgent Copper, Brilliant Silver or Umbral Tin, and for gems, our prospecting guide.
