The short answer
Midnight has four common gem colours, a rare Eversong Diamond, a Flawless version of each colour and a combined reagent, the
Kaleidoscopic Prism. On the US market right now the Silver grade common gems sell for about the same as each other: 22 gold99 silver for Amani Lapis, 23 gold79 silver for Harandar Peridot, 21 gold59 silver for Sanguine Garnet and 21 gold98 silver for Tenebrous Amethyst. Each is worth roughly four times a Silver grade ore, which is why prospecting gets attention. We have not measured prospecting yields, so this page gives you live prices, the cutting recipes and a simple test to find your own break even instead of a made up yield.
Every gem, live
| Gem | Silver grade now | Gold grade now |
|---|---|---|
| Amani Lapis | 22 gold99 silver | 53 gold23 silver |
| Harandar Peridot | 23 gold79 silver | 52 gold99 silver |
| Sanguine Garnet | 21 gold59 silver | 56 gold74 silver |
| Tenebrous Amethyst | 21 gold98 silver | 64 gold25 silver |
| Eversong Diamond (epic) | 22 gold1 silver | 63 gold43 silver |
| Flawless Amani Lapis | 23 gold13 silver | 59 gold59 silver |
| Flawless Harandar Peridot | 25 gold5 silver | 69 gold80 silver |
| Flawless Sanguine Garnet | 22 gold74 silver | 55 gold95 silver |
| Flawless Tenebrous Amethyst | 25 gold30 silver | 61 gold97 silver |
| Kaleidoscopic Prism | 245 gold89 silver | 473 gold99 silver |
Common gems vendor for 40 silver, Flawless gems for 80 silver and the Eversong Diamond for 2 gold. The market is far above every one of those, so the vendor never comes into it.
What the 14-day ranges say
On 2026-10-08 our tables showed these two week ranges for the common gems:
| Gem | Silver low | Silver high | Gold low | Gold high |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amani Lapis | 10 gold95 silver | 19 gold15 silver | 26 gold82 silver | 46 gold45 silver |
| Harandar Peridot | 10 gold49 silver | 18 gold39 silver | 29 gold10 silver | 47 gold90 silver |
| Sanguine Garnet | 6 gold10 silver | 18 gold51 silver | 29 gold | 44 gold28 silver |
| Tenebrous Amethyst | 7 gold50 silver | 19 gold | 27 gold95 silver | 45 gold |
| Eversong Diamond | 14 gold99 silver | 19 gold | 46 gold | 75 gold |
Silver grade Sanguine Garnet tripled inside two weeks, from 6 gold10 silver to 18 gold51 silver. Every Silver grade common gem then printed above its two week high on 2026-10-08, between 20 gold20 silver and 21 gold49 silver. That is the same pattern we saw in ore that week: the whole Jewelcrafting materials market lifted together. Gem prices swing harder than ore prices in relative terms, which makes timing more important for a prospector than for a miner.
What cuts each gem
Our datamine shows one clear pattern for the four common colours:
| Recipe type | Gems used | Other reagents | Recipes per colour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deadly, Masterful, Quick, Versatile cut | 1 common gem | 1 Glimmering Gemdust | 4 |
| Amani set piece (Piercing Lapis, Opalescent Peridot, Roaring Garnet) | 4 common gems | 6 Gemdust, 8 Dusk-Shrouded Stone, 6 Thalassian Lumber | 1 (none for Amethyst) |
| Stabilizing Gemstone Bandolier | 1 of each colour | 3 Gemdust | shared |
| Flawless Deadly, Masterful, Quick, Versatile cut | 1 Flawless gem | 5 Gemdust, 3 paired mote, 1 Petrified Root | 4 |
| Kaleidoscopic Prism | 1 Flawless of each colour | 10 Gemdust | shared |
Sanguine Garnet has one extra: the Silvermoon Focusing Shard, made from three Crystalline Glass, one Dusk-Shrouded Stone and one Garnet.
The Flawless cuts each take three of one mote, and the pairing is fixed: Lapis with
Mote of Wild Magic, Peridot with
Mote of Primal Energy, Garnet with
Mote of Light and Amethyst with
Mote of Pure Void. Our Midnight motes guide covers those.
The Kaleidoscopic Prism chain
The Prism is where gems turn into serious money. Our datamine lists 17 recipes that use it, all Jewelcrafting: the four Eversong Diamond cuts, four colour prisms (Amani Lapis Prism, Harandar Peridot Prism, Sanguine Garnet Prism, Tenebrous Amethyst Prism), rings and necklaces such as the Masterwork Sin'dorei Band and Amulet, the Loa Worshiper's Band and the Thalassian Phoenix Torque, and decor like the Replica Haranir Mural, the Tenebrous Ren'dorei Armillary and the Bejeweled Sin'dorei Lyre.
Here is the Prism's own recipe at Silver grade prices on 2026-10-08:
| Reagent | Quantity | Unit price (2026-10-08) | Line cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glimmering Gemdust (Silver) | 10 | 24 gold58 silver | 245 gold80 silver |
| Flawless Amani Lapis (Silver) | 1 | 22 gold45 silver | 22 gold45 silver |
| Flawless Tenebrous Amethyst (Silver) | 1 | 21 gold83 silver | 21 gold83 silver |
| Flawless Harandar Peridot (Silver) | 1 | 21 gold8 silver | 21 gold8 silver |
| Flawless Sanguine Garnet (Silver) | 1 | 20 gold44 silver | 20 gold44 silver |
That came to 331 gold60 silver, against a Silver Prism at 220 gold and a Gold Prism at 474 gold87 silver. Two lessons. First, the gems were only about a quarter of the bill; Glimmering Gemdust was three quarters. Second, making a Silver Prism from Silver inputs lost about 111 gold60 silver, while landing a Gold Prism from the same inputs gained about 143 gold27 silver. As with ore, the profit sits with crafters who can upgrade quality.
The diamond trap
The Eversong Diamond cuts look tempting, because the cut diamonds trade in the hundreds. Each cut takes one Eversong Diamond, one Kaleidoscopic Prism and two
Petrified Root. On 2026-10-08, with a Silver diamond and a Silver Prism:
| Reagent | Quantity | Line cost (2026-10-08) |
|---|---|---|
| Petrified Root | 2 | 696 gold48 silver |
| Kaleidoscopic Prism (Silver) | 1 | 220 gold |
| Eversong Diamond (Silver) | 1 | 21 gold49 silver |
That bill of 937 gold97 silver compared with cut diamonds selling between 400 gold68 silver and 730 gold10 silver that day, depending on the cut and its quality. Every diamond cut lost money on our snapshot, and the reason was Petrified Root, at about three quarters of the bill. If you mine or prospect an Eversong Diamond, sell it uncut unless Petrified Root gets much cheaper.
Prospecting: what we know and do not know
Player reports say Jewelcrafters can prospect Midnight base ores into gems, with the Eversong Diamond as the rare result. Our datamine's recipe table does not list prospecting, and we have not measured what a stack of ore gives. So here is the arithmetic, and a test to fill in the missing number.
On 2026-10-08 a Silver grade ore averaged about 4 gold79 silver across copper, silver and tin, and a Silver grade common gem averaged about 20 gold79 silver. That means one Silver gem was worth a little over four Silver ore. If your prospecting returns at least one Silver gem for every four to five Silver ore, before counting any Gold or Flawless results, it beats selling the ore raw on that day's prices.
- Prospect 100 Silver grade ore of one type.
- Count every result by gem, grade and Flawless or not.
- Multiply each count by its live price from the tables above.
- Compare with 100 times the live ore price, and take off the Auction House cut on whichever side you would sell.
- Repeat with Gold grade ore, which costs five to six times more and needs much better results to pay.
- Repeat every couple of weeks. Gem prices tripled inside a fortnight in our history, so the answer can flip.
Gold gems carry a smaller premium than Gold ore
Here is a comparison we have not seen anywhere else, and it changes how you should test Gold grade ore. On 2026-10-08 our item lookup read these Silver and Gold prices for each gem:
| Gem | Silver (2026-10-08) | Gold (2026-10-08) | Gold over Silver |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amani Lapis | 21 gold48 silver | 59 gold99 silver | 2.8x |
| Harandar Peridot | 20 gold47 silver | 52 gold41 silver | 2.6x |
| Sanguine Garnet | 20 gold19 silver | 50 gold | 2.5x |
| Tenebrous Amethyst | 20 gold98 silver | 50 gold13 silver | 2.4x |
| Eversong Diamond | 21 gold48 silver | 74 gold96 silver | 3.5x |
| Flawless Amani Lapis | 21 gold99 silver | 83 gold | 3.8x |
| Flawless Harandar Peridot | 21 gold8 silver | 87 gold98 silver | 4.2x |
| Flawless Sanguine Garnet | 20 gold44 silver | 63 gold75 silver | 3.1x |
| Flawless Tenebrous Amethyst | 21 gold83 silver | 65 gold | 3.0x |
Now set that against the ore. The three base ores averaged 4 gold79 silver at Silver grade and 26 gold96 silver at Gold grade that day, a ratio of about 5.6. A Gold common gem was worth only 2.4 to 2.8 times its Silver version. So Gold ore carries a much bigger premium than the gems it might turn into.
Work the break even through. A Silver common gem averaged about 20 gold79 silver, so it paid for about four Silver ore. A Gold common gem averaged about 53 gold13 silver, which pays for only about two Gold ore. In plain terms, prospecting Gold ore needs to return a gem roughly twice as often as prospecting Silver ore just to keep pace with selling the ore raw. Unless your own test shows Gold ore doing that, prospect your Silver grade ore and sell the Gold grade raw.
Two smaller points come out of the same table. At Silver grade a Flawless gem sold for almost exactly the same as a common one, so a Silver Flawless result is no windfall. At Gold grade the Flawless premium opens up to between a quarter and two thirds over the common gem, which is where any upside from prospecting sits.

Where the ore comes from
Every base ore is reported in all four outdoor zones, so a prospector can mine anywhere. Player reports put Zul'Aman and Voidstorm ahead for deposit count and Harandar behind them, but Harandar lends its name to the Peridot.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968

Voidstorm: Levels 88-90, Unknown, Zone ID 16648
The zone guides go further: Harandar, Zul'Aman, Eversong Woods and Voidstorm.
Who buys gems, and when
Gem demand comes from three places, and each moves on its own clock.
Socketing. The simple Deadly, Masterful, Quick and Versatile cuts go into gear sockets. Demand rises when a new season or raid brings new gear with sockets, and falls back once most players have filled theirs. That is the main driver for the common Silver grade gems.
Crafted jewellery and profession gear. The Kaleidoscopic Prism rings and necklaces, the Loa Worshiper's Band and the Thalassian Phoenix Torque each need a Prism, which needs one Flawless gem of every colour. That demand pulls on Flawless gems as a set of four, so a shortage of one colour lifts that colour while the others stay flat. If one Flawless colour is far above the rest, Prism crafters are short of it.
Housing. Our datamine shows three decor recipes built on the Prism: the Replica Haranir Mural, the Tenebrous Ren'dorei Armillary and the Bejeweled Sin'dorei Lyre. Decor demand jumps with housing updates and has nothing to do with raids.
Quick questions
Which gem colour is best to hold? On our snapshot the Silver grade colours were within about a gold of each other. Hold whichever your own crafting uses; otherwise sell evenly.
Are Flawless gems only from prospecting? The client data we read does not say how Flawless gems are obtained, and we have not measured it.
Does Gold grade ore give better gems? Player reports suggest so, but we have not tested it. The six step test above answers it for your own character.
Sell, cut or combine: a decision list
- Common gems: sell uncut unless you know a cut's live price beats the gem plus one Gemdust.
- Flawless gems: sell, or keep a set of four if you can land Gold grade Prisms.
- Eversong Diamond: sell uncut; Petrified Root made every cut a loss on our snapshot.
- Kaleidoscopic Prism: only worth making when you land Gold grade results.
- Gemdust: watch its price closely. It is the biggest line in the Prism bill, and a cheap Gemdust week is when Prisms pay.
What to watch
Watch Glimmering Gemdust and Petrified Root more than the gems themselves; they decide whether cutting pays. Watch the Silver grade gems against the Silver grade ores, since that ratio decides whether prospecting beats selling raw. And watch for housing updates: three Prism recipes are decor pieces, and the Replica Haranir Mural alone takes 25 Dusk-Shrouded Stone. Prospecting has not been timed or measured on our side, so where an earning rate would go, the honest status is not walked yet. For the ore side, read which Midnight ore is worth mining right now.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
