The short answer

Midnight has four motes, one for each themed gathering node: Mote of Light, Mote of Wild Magic, Mote of Primal Energy and Mote of Pure Void. Right now they sell for 58 silver, 70 silver, 57 silver and 20 silver. All four are cheap next to ore and herbs, and none of them is worth a trip on its own. But they are not equal. Wild Magic and Primal Energy have the deepest demand, Light sits in the middle, and Pure Void has the fewest recipes and the weakest price. Keep the motes your professions use, sell the rest in large batches, and never transmute one into another for profit.

All four are rare quality items in the client and all four vendor for 20 silver. Look at the bottom row: Pure Void's 14-day low was below its own vendor price. On a bad day, the vendor paid more for it than any player did.

Miners and herbalists both report the same pairing: each zone has one themed node type, and that node type gives its mote. Our datamine lists Lightfused gathering spells for Midnight herbs, which fits the pattern, but we have not confirmed every node in game, so read this table as the community's map rather than ours. One more source sits in the client data itself: the Alchemy transmutes, covered below.

Who uses each mote

Recipe counts tell you how many places a mote can go. The professions behind those counts tell you who is buying:

Skinning1111
Tailoring1231212
Total70807846

Some patterns jump out. Engineers want Wild Magic far more than any other mote: sixteen recipes, including Aetherlume gear at fifteen motes a piece. Enchanting is a big user of the first three and barely touches Pure Void. Tailoring splits evenly between Light, Primal and Void. Every profession that can use motes uses at least some of each, which is why the transmutes exist.

The demand number nobody prints

Recipe counts are only half the story, because one recipe can take a single mote and another can take forty. So we added up the motes needed to craft every recipe once, leaving out the enchantments whose reagent lists the client does not fill in:

MoteMotes to craft every listed recipe oncePrice on 2026-10-08Value of that demand
Mote of Wild Magic70960 silver425 gold40 silver
Mote of Primal Energy43370 silver303 gold10 silver
Mote of Light37354 silver201 gold42 silver
Mote of Pure Void22422 silver49 gold28 silver

Wild Magic's lead comes mostly from Leatherworking: eight Thalassian profession gear recipes (the Wildseeker's Workbag and Stridercap, the Scrapmaster's Gauntlets, the Ironbender's and Hideshaper's Regalia, the Herbtender's Cradle, the Gemshaper's Grand Cover and the Alchemist's Mixcap) take forty motes each, 320 between them. Pure Void sits last on every measure: fewest recipes, fewest motes per full set, lowest price. That is not a coincidence. When demand is thin, sellers have to cut deeper to move stock.

Motes measured in ore

Mote prices look tiny because they are tiny, so it helps to measure them against something you also carry. The table uses the 2026-10-08 snapshot, with the cheapest Gold grade base ore that day, Refulgent Copper at 24 gold74 silver, as the yardstick:

MotePrice on 2026-10-08Motes worth one Gold copper oreAverage motes per listed recipe
Mote of Primal Energy70 silverabout 355.6
Mote of Wild Magic60 silverabout 418.9
Mote of Light54 silverabout 465.3
Mote of Pure Void22 silverabout 1124.9

The last column divides the motes needed for one craft of every recipe by the number of recipes, including the few enchantments the client leaves unquantified, so it slightly understates the true average. Two readings follow. First, a single Gold grade ore is worth a full session of mote pickups for every mote, so never let a mote decide your route. Second, Wild Magic is used in the biggest amounts per recipe by a wide margin, almost nine on average, which is why it has the largest demand total even though Primal Energy fetched more per mote on our snapshot day. If Wild Magic ever trades above Primal Energy for a sustained stretch, that is the market catching up with the recipe data.

The gem and mote pairing

The client data pairs each Flawless gem colour with exactly one mote. Every Flawless gem cut takes one Flawless gem, five Glimmering Gemdust, one Petrified Root and three of the paired mote:

Flawless gemPaired moteCuts in our datamine
Flawless Amani LapisMote of Wild MagicDeadly, Masterful, Quick, Versatile
Flawless Harandar PeridotMote of Primal EnergyDeadly, Masterful, Quick, Versatile
Flawless Sanguine GarnetMote of LightDeadly, Masterful, Quick, Versatile
Flawless Tenebrous AmethystMote of Pure VoidDeadly, Masterful, Quick, Versatile

For a Jewelcrafter this matters more than the mote price. Three motes cost between 66 silver and 2 gold10 silver on our snapshot, while the Petrified Root in the same cut cost 348 gold24 silver. The motes are never the expensive part, but you cannot make the cut without them. See our gems and prospecting guide for every gem priced live.

One recipe that needs all four

Leatherworking's Infused Scalewoven Hide takes one Scalewoven Hide, one Majestic Hide and two of every mote: two Light, two Primal Energy, two Pure Void and two Wild Magic. Infused hides then feed items like the Blood Knight's Armor Kit and Ranger-General's Grips. If you are a Leatherworker, this is the reason to keep a few of each mote in your bank rather than selling every one.

The transmute ring, and why it never pays

Alchemy has four mote transmutes. Each takes ten of one mote and two Stabilized Derivate and makes one of the next:

TransmuteInputOutputInput value on 2026-10-08Output value on 2026-10-08
Transmute: Mote of Wild Magic10 Light1 Wild Magic5 gold40 silver60 silver
Transmute: Mote of Pure Void10 Wild Magic1 Pure Void6 gold22 silver
Transmute: Mote of Primal Energy10 Pure Void1 Primal Energy2 gold20 silver70 silver
Transmute: Mote of Light10 Primal Energy1 Light7 gold54 silver

The input values leave out the Stabilized Derivate, which our tables do not price yet. Even without it, every transmute lost money by a wide margin. With all four motes priced within a gold of each other, a ten to one conversion can never come out ahead. The transmutes are a convenience for a crafter who is short on one mote at the wrong moment, nothing more.

What moves mote prices

Motes do not follow the raid calendar the way flasks and herbs do. Their buyers are spread over nine professions, and most recipes use only a few motes, so no single week of crafting drains the market. Three things do move them.

Profession gear waves. The big mote sinks are profession equipment: the Leatherworking Thalassian gear at forty Wild Magic each, Tailoring's profession robes and hats, the Enchanting codices at twenty motes. When a patch raises profession gear requirements or a new season opens, crafters rebuild their gear and motes move with it.

Housing. Our datamine shows mote demand in decor too. Haranir furniture from Leatherworking, such as the Simple Haranir Table and the Haranir Canopy Bed, takes twenty Primal Energy each. The Ren'dorei Postal Repository from Enchanting takes ten Pure Void. Housing updates bring decorating waves, and those reach the motes.

Supply gluts. Every miner and herbalist in themed zones collects motes whether they want them or not. When many players gather in one zone at once, such as the first weeks after a patch, that zone's mote floods the market. That is a good moment to buy for your own crafting and a poor moment to sell.

Mistakes with motes

Holding them for a spike. A mote that doubles from a low base is still worth less than one ore. Unless you craft, holding motes ties up bank space for little return.

Selling in tiny batches. Each listing costs you time and a deposit. List in full stacks.

Transmuting for profit. The table above shows every transmute losing value on our snapshot. Only transmute to fill a gap in a recipe you are about to craft.

Ignoring the vendor. It sounds odd for a rare item, but Pure Void has been listed below its vendor price within the last two weeks. When that happens, vendor it.

Skipping themed nodes because the mote is cheap. The themed node still gives you its normal ore or herb, and a Dazzling Thorium chance if it is a deposit. The mote is a bonus, not the reason to stop.

Keep or sell: a verdict for each

  1. Mote of Wild Magic: keep if you craft, otherwise sell in bulk. The deepest demand and a steady price band.
  2. Mote of Primal Energy: keep if you craft, otherwise sell in bulk. It had the highest price on our snapshot and a wide band, so sell near the top of it.
  3. Mote of Light: sell unless you are a Leatherworker, Tailor or scribe. Mid table on every measure.
  4. Mote of Pure Void: keep only for your own crafting. Its market is thin and can drop below vendor. If the live price is under 20 silver, the vendor is the better buyer.

Themed node motes, all Midnight zones

Not walked yet

No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.

How to sell motes without wasting time

  1. Sell in full stacks. Listing three motes at a time is effort for almost nothing.
  2. Check the band. Every mote moved by a factor of close to three or more within two weeks, so timing matters even at these prices.
  3. Never undercut by large steps. These markets are thin; a deep undercut just lowers the price for everyone, you included.
  4. Compare with the vendor price, especially for Pure Void.
  5. Do not chase motes. Collect them while you gather ore or herbs, which carry the real value.

Is any mote worth farming?

Not on its own, on our data. The cheapest Gold grade base ore on 2026-10-08 was worth about thirty five of the priciest mote. Motes are a side drop that supports crafting, and their value to you depends on whether you craft. The route status for every themed node is not walked yet, so we give you the prices and the demand rather than an earning rate. For the single mote deep dive, read our Mote of Pure Void guide, and for the zones, start with Eversong Woods or Zul'Aman.

How this guide was written

Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
