The short answer
Mote of Pure Void is the void themed mote of Midnight. Right now it sells for 20 silver on the US commodity market. It is the cheapest of the four motes, it has the fewest recipes behind it (46, against 70 to 80 for the others), and its price has been listed below its own vendor value of 20 silver within the last two weeks. If you craft Tailoring, Inscription, Alchemy or Jewelcrafting items that call for it, collect and keep it. If you do not, sell it in full stacks when the price is near the top of its band, and use the vendor whenever the market drops below 20 silver.
What it is
Our datamine lists Mote of Pure Void as a rare quality reagent with a vendor price of 20 silver, one grade only. It belongs to a family of four motes, one per themed gathering node in Midnight: Light, Wild Magic, Primal Energy and Pure Void. Its siblings sold for 70 silver (Wild Magic) and 57 silver (Primal Energy) when this page loaded.
The price and its range
On 2026-10-08 our tables read 22 silver for Pure Void, with a 14-day low of 1 silver and a high of 25 silver. Put another way, the high was twenty five times the low. No other material in our mining guides moved that much in relative terms over the same fortnight.
A range like that tells you three things about the market:
- It is thin. Few buyers and sellers are active at any moment, so a single large listing can push the price to the floor.
- Undercutting wars happen. Someone listing hundreds of motes at almost nothing sets the minimum price until those motes sell.
- The vendor is a real option. The vendor always pays 20 silver. On the low days, that beat the market by a factor of twenty.
Where it comes from
Player reports describe Voidbound gathering nodes in Voidstorm: Voidbound ore deposits for miners and Voidbound herbs for herbalists. Gathering one gives the normal ore or herb plus Mote of Pure Void. Some reports mention a void effect around the node that can briefly hold the gatherer. We have not confirmed drop amounts or the node behaviour ourselves, and nothing in the client data we read publishes a drop rate.
The client data does confirm one more source: the Alchemy transmute that turns ten Mote of Wild Magic and two Stabilized Derivate into one Mote of Pure Void. On our snapshot that turned 6 gold of Wild Magic into 22 silver of Pure Void, so it only makes sense if you need a void mote immediately and have Wild Magic to spare.

Voidstorm is tuned for levels 88 to 90 and is the top outdoor zone of the expansion. Our Voidstorm mining guide covers the zone in full.

Every recipe that uses it
Our datamine lists 46 recipes. Two Enchanting recipes (Enchant Tool: Ren'dorei Ingenuity and Enchant Weapon: Acuity of the Ren'dorei) list Pure Void but the client leaves their reagent amounts empty, so they are counted but not quantified below.

Crafting every quantified recipe once would use 224 motes. At the snapshot price, that whole set of demand was worth about 49 gold28 silver. For comparison, the same sum for Mote of Wild Magic came to 425 gold40 silver. That gap is the core reason Pure Void trades lower than its siblings.
Who really drives demand
Tailors are the largest group, with twelve recipes including the heaviest single gear users at twelve motes. Most are crafted cloth armor and profession gear, so tailoring demand rises when a new season starts and cloth wearers gear up.
Scribes come second. Darkmoon Dominion: Void at twenty and Darkmoon Sigil: Void at ten are the big lines. Soul Cipher, at one each, is small per craft but sits inside both Darkmoon recipes, which take five Soul Ciphers each.
Jewelcrafters spend three per Flawless Tenebrous Amethyst cut. In the client data, every Flawless gem colour pairs with one mote, and Pure Void is the Amethyst's partner. A Flawless Tenebrous Amethyst sold for 25 gold30 silver at Silver grade and 61 gold97 silver at Gold grade when this page loaded.
Alchemists use two in Flask of the Magisters and two in the Haranir Phial of Ingenuity. The flask is a combat consumable, so that slice of demand follows the raid calendar; the phial's name points at crafting, so its demand more likely follows crafting weeks. Either way, the Nocturnal Lotus and herbs in those recipes cost far more than the motes.
How much of a bill is it?
In almost every recipe, Pure Void is a rounding error. Take the Flawless Deadly Amethyst cut: one Flawless Tenebrous Amethyst, five Glimmering Gemdust, three Pure Void and one Petrified Root. On 2026-10-08, at Silver grade prices, that was:
| Reagent | Quantity | Unit price (2026-10-08) | Line cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrified Root | 1 | 348 gold24 silver | 348 gold24 silver |
| Glimmering Gemdust (Silver) | 5 | 24 gold58 silver | 122 gold90 silver |
| Flawless Tenebrous Amethyst (Silver) | 1 | 21 gold83 silver | 21 gold83 silver |
| Mote of Pure Void | 3 | 22 silver | 66 silver |
The three motes were about 0.13 percent of a 493 gold63 silver bill. A crafter does not care whether Pure Void costs 1 silver or a full gold. That is why demand does not react to price and why sellers who list low do not sell more.
What a hundred motes are really worth
Because Pure Void sits so close to its vendor price, the gap between selling well and selling badly is smaller than it looks. Here is a batch of 100 motes valued four ways, using our 2026-10-08 figures:
| Where you sell | Price per mote | Value of 100 motes |
|---|---|---|
| Market at the 14-day low | 1 silver | 1 gold |
| Vendor, any day | 20 silver | 20 gold |
| Market on 2026-10-08 | 22 silver | 22 gold |
| Market at the 14-day high | 25 silver | 25 gold |
The best market day beat the vendor by 5 gold per hundred, before the Auction House takes its cut. The worst market day lost 19 gold per hundred against the vendor. That shape is lopsided: the downside of listing at the wrong moment is almost four times the upside of listing at the right one. Unless you are holding several hundred motes, the vendor is a perfectly sensible default, and it never undercuts you.
For scale, one Gold grade Umbral Tin Ore on 2026-10-08 was worth more than a hundred Pure Void at the best price in the fortnight. Spend your selling effort on the ore.
A crafter's view: when to stock up
If you are on the buying side, Pure Void's thin market works in your favour. The same swings that hurt sellers let a patient buyer fill a bank tab for very little. Three moments are worth watching for.
Right after a patch. Players pile into the newest content, Voidstorm fills with gatherers, and every one of them collects Pure Void as a side drop. Supply jumps while crafting demand has not caught up. That is usually when the price touches its floor.
When a big seller lists. A single player listing hundreds of motes at the minimum price creates a short window where you can buy a season's worth for a few gold. Commodity listings do not last long at the bottom, so buy when you see it.
Before a season starts. Tailors and scribes restock just before new crafted gear and new Darkmoon decks become relevant. If you plan to craft those, buy your motes a week earlier, before the rush.
The reverse applies if you are a seller. Avoid listing in the week after a patch, and list into the days when crafters are restocking. Because the price band is so narrow in absolute terms, the difference between a good and a bad day might only be a few silver per mote, so do not spend much effort on timing unless you hold a large stack.
Common questions
Is Mote of Pure Void rare? Its item quality is rare, but supply is plentiful. Quality colour says nothing about market value here.
Can I farm it without Voidstorm? Player reports tie it to Voidbound nodes in Voidstorm. The transmute from Wild Magic is the only other source in the client data, and it loses value.
Will it ever be worth more? It could, if a patch adds recipes that use it in bulk. Watch patch notes for new Tailoring and Inscription recipes.
Keep, sell or vendor: the steps
- Check whether you craft with it. Tailors, scribes, Jewelcrafters cutting Amethysts and Alchemists making Magister flasks should keep a stack.
- If you do not, compare the live price with 20 silver. Below that, vendor. Above it, list.
- List full stacks. Small listings of a near zero item cost more time than they return.
- Sell near the top of the band. The 14-day high is the realistic target; nobody pays more for long.
- Do not transmute other motes into it. Ten Wild Magic for one Pure Void lost about 5 gold78 silver on our snapshot.
- Level
- 88 or higher for Voidstorm (zone tuned for 88 to 90)
- Profession
- Mining or Herbalism on Voidbound nodes, per player reports; or Alchemy for the transmute

What to watch
Watch the gap between the live price and the vendor price, since it is the one number that tells you where to sell. Watch Tailoring and Inscription patch notes, since those two professions decide most of the demand. And watch Voidstorm traffic: when many players gather there at once, supply floods in and the price sinks to its floor. The route status for Voidbound nodes is not walked yet, so we give you prices and recipes instead of an earning rate. For ore from the same zone, read which Midnight ore is worth mining right now.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
