The short answer
Refulgent Copper Ore is the base metal of Midnight. Almost every Blacksmithing recipe in the expansion eventually needs it, because it is the only ore that smelts into an ingot, and that ingot feeds both Midnight alloys. Right now the Silver grade sells for 4 gold98 silver and the Gold grade for 24 gold36 silver on the US commodity market. The ingot sells for 19 gold90 silver (Silver) and 45 gold94 silver (Gold). On the day we wrote this, smelting Silver ore into a Silver ingot lost money, and smelting Gold ore into a Gold ingot lost a lot of money. Sell the ore raw unless you are a Blacksmith who can turn cheap ore into a better grade of ingot.
What Refulgent Copper actually is
Our datamine of the 12.1 client lists two items called Refulgent Copper Ore:
Refulgent Copper Ore at Silver quality and
Refulgent Copper Ore at Gold quality. Both are mining Trade Goods and both vendor for 15 silver. The grade is the whole story. Any recipe slot that asks for the ore accepts either grade, and the grade you feed in pushes the quality of what comes out. Crafters who only need the item to exist buy Silver. Crafters chasing a top quality result pay for Gold.
The ore has one smelting recipe. Blacksmiths turn five ore and two
Luminant Flux into one
Refulgent Copper Ingot or
Refulgent Copper Ingot, depending on the result quality. Luminant Flux is a cheap vendor style reagent, priced right now at 32 silver, so the flux almost never decides whether smelting is worth it. The ore price and the ingot price do.
Who buys the ore
The client data shows five recipes that take raw Refulgent Copper Ore. That is a short list, and it explains why the raw ore market is thinner than you might expect for the most common metal in the expansion.
| Recipe | Profession | Copper ore per craft | Other reagents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Refulgent Copper Ingot | Blacksmithing | 5 | 2 Luminant Flux |
| Thalassian Skeleton Key | Blacksmithing | 6 | 3 Brilliant Silver Ore |
| Song Gear | Engineering | 10 | 5 Umbral Tin Ore, 1 Malleable Wireframe |
| Soul Sprocket | Engineering | 5 | 10 Umbral Tin Ore, 1 Malleable Wireframe |
| Gleaming Copper Band | Jewelcrafting | 5 | 1 Dusk-Shrouded Stone |
Read it this way. Blacksmiths are the main buyers, because the ingot is the gateway to everything else they make. Engineers are the second buyer: Song Gear and Soul Sprocket are the basic Engineering parts of Midnight, and each one needs copper and tin together. Jewelers only touch the ore for one ring. If you sell copper, you are mostly selling to people who smelt.
Who buys the ingot
The ingot is where the real demand sits. Our datamine lists 44 recipes that consume Refulgent Copper Ingot: 41 in Blacksmithing and 3 in Enchanting. If you crafted each of those recipes once, you would use 256 ingots, which is 1,280 ore before any crafting stat saves you a little. Here are the heaviest users:
| Recipe | Ingots per craft | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Ren'dorei Anvil | 18 | housing decor, also 5 Gloaming and 5 Sterling Alloy |
| Gilded Silvermoon Anvil | 18 | housing decor |
| Amani Forgemaster's Workbench | 18 | housing decor |
| Amani Forgemaster's Rack | 18 | housing decor |
| Refulgent Whetstone, Weightstone, Razorstone | 12 each | weapon consumables, with 4 Dusk-Shrouded Stone, 15 Luminant Flux and 2 Petrified Root |
| Ornamental and Gilded Silvermoon Hanger | 12 each | housing decor |
| Thalassian profession tools (Pickaxe, Sickle, Skinning Knife, Blacksmith's Hammer, Leatherworker's Knife) | 6 each | starter profession tools; the Needle Set and Leatherworker's Toolset take 5 |
| Sterling Alloy | 3 | alloy, with 6 Brilliant Silver Ore |
| Gloaming Alloy | 3 | alloy, with 6 Umbral Tin Ore |
| Blood-Tempered plate set | 2 to 4 per piece | leveling and crafted plate |
Two things stand out. First, the single biggest ingot sinks are housing decor pieces: four recipes at 18 ingots and two at 12. Decor demand does not follow the raid calendar at all. It follows how many players are decorating, which tends to jump with every housing update. Second, every Sterling Alloy and every Gloaming Alloy costs three ingots, and those two alloys sit inside nearly every high end Blacksmithing recipe in the game. So ingot demand is really alloy demand plus decor demand plus a long tail of plate.
The smelt or sell math
This is the decision a miner actually faces. Here is the arithmetic at the prices our tables held on 2026-10-08.
| Path | Inputs | Input cost (2026-10-08) | Output value (2026-10-08) | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silver ore to Silver ingot | 5 ore + 2 flux | 25 gold20 silver | 18 gold79 silver | lose 6 gold41 silver |
| Gold ore to Gold ingot | 5 ore + 2 flux | 124 gold90 silver | 47 gold90 silver | lose 77 gold |
| Silver ore to Gold ingot | 5 ore + 2 flux | 25 gold20 silver | 47 gold90 silver | gain 22 gold70 silver |
The first two rows are plain. On that day the ingot was cheaper than the ore that makes it, in both grades. Smelting your own Silver ore threw away about a quarter of its value, and smelting Gold ore into a Gold ingot threw away more than half. That sounds backwards, but it happens often in Midnight: Blacksmiths with high skill and good tools can turn Silver ore into a Gold ingot, and when enough of them do it, the Gold ingot price falls toward the Silver ore cost while the Gold ore price stays high, because some crafts still demand top grade ore directly.
The third row is the only profitable path, and it is not open to everyone. Whether your Blacksmithing setup can upgrade Silver ore to a Gold ingot depends on your skill, your specialization and your tools. We have not measured the success rate, so treat that row as a target for a skilled smith, not a promise.
How to decide in four steps
- Read the live Silver ore price and the live Silver ingot price. Multiply the ore by five and add two flux. If that is higher than the ingot, sell the ore.
- Do the same with Gold ore against the Gold ingot. On our 2026-10-08 snapshot this row lost more than half the ore's value, so expect it to favour selling.
- If you are a Blacksmith, smelt a test batch of twenty Silver ore and count how many ingots come out at Gold quality. That share is your personal answer to row three.
- Smelt only the share that pays. Sell the rest as ore. There is no rule that says a miner has to smelt everything.
What the 14-day range tells you
On 2026-10-08 the Silver ore sat above the top of its own 14-day range: our tables showed a two week low of 2 gold4 silver and a high of 4 gold32 silver, and the current price was 4 gold80 silver. The Gold ore did the same thing, ranging from 6 gold84 silver to 22 gold69 silver and then printing 24 gold74 silver. When an ore breaks above its own two week high, it usually means a wave of crafting demand just arrived, often a patch, a new recipe or a weekly reset. That is the time to sell, not to hoard.
The ingot moved much less. Silver ingots ranged from 16 gold17 silver to 18 gold80 silver, which is a swing of about 16 percent. Gold ore swung by a factor of more than three over the same days. The lesson is simple: the ore is the volatile part of this market and the ingot is the steady part. If you want predictable sales, smelt. If you want the best price, sell ore into spikes.
Copper inside the bigger metal picture
Refulgent Copper never works alone. The Engineering parts pair it with Umbral Tin, the Skeleton Key pairs it with Brilliant Silver, and the alloys use its ingot with the other two ores. Here is how the three base ores compared on 2026-10-08:
| Ore | Silver grade now | Gold grade now | Gold over Silver |
|---|---|---|---|
| Refulgent Copper Ore | 4 gold98 silver | 24 gold36 silver | about 5x on 2026-10-08 |
| Brilliant Silver Ore | 5 gold21 silver | 21 gold31 silver | about 6x on 2026-10-08 |
| Umbral Tin Ore | 5 gold65 silver | 19 gold60 silver | about 5x on 2026-10-08 |
On 2026-10-08 copper was the cheapest of the three at Gold grade, while at Silver grade Brilliant Silver was a few silver cheaper. The gaps are small either way. Because the alloys need copper as ingots and the other two ores raw, a Blacksmith making alloys burns through copper fastest of all. That is the floor under the copper price: it will rarely collapse while alloys are in demand.

Where to mine it
Miners report Refulgent Copper in all four outdoor Midnight zones, and there is no evidence in the client data that it favours one zone. We have not walked and timed a route anywhere yet, so this section tells you where to look, not what you will earn. Zone levels come from the client's content tuning data.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968
Eversong Woods is tuned for levels 80 to 83 and is the calmest place to learn Midnight mining. Player reports say the zone edges hold more untouched deposits than the centre. Player reports also tie Light themed deposits here to
Mote of Light, a reagent our datamine shows in 70 recipes across eight professions, from tool enchants and Mining treatises to profession gear. Our Eversong Woods mining guide covers the zone in detail.

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947
Zul'Aman is tuned for 83 to 88. Player reports rate it among the densest ore zones, with lighter mob pressure than Voidstorm. See the Zul'Aman mining guide.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355

Voidstorm: Levels 88-90, Unknown, Zone ID 16648
Harandar shares the 83 to 88 range, and Voidstorm sits at the top at 88 to 90. Any base deposit in any of them can also hand you
Dazzling Thorium, the rare ore covered in our Dazzling Thorium guide.

No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.
How to sell it without losing money
- Never vendor it. The vendor pays 15 silver per ore in either grade, a tiny fraction of even the cheapest Silver price in our history.
- List Silver and Gold separately and price each against its own grade.
- Sell into breakouts. When the live price is above the 14-day high, list. When it is near the low, hold a few days if you can.
- Do not dump a full bag of Gold ore at once. The Gold buyer base is real but thin, so list in a few batches across the week.
- Watch housing and patch news. Decor recipes in our datamine eat 8 to 18 ingots each, and a housing update can move copper more than any raid tier.
Is Refulgent Copper worth mining?
Yes, as the floor of every mining trip. It will not be the most exciting line in your bags, but you collect it on every loop, it has two steady buyers in Blacksmithing and Engineering, and the alloy chain keeps a floor under the price. The Gold grade is where most of the value sits, so the better your Mining setup gets at producing Gold ore, the more each node pays. What we will not print is a gold per hour figure: until we walk and time a route with a full loot log, the honest number is the live price and the recipe list above.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
