The short answer
Umbral Tin Ore is the third base ore of Midnight and the most widely used of the three when it comes to raw recipes. It feeds
Gloaming Alloy for Blacksmiths and both basic Engineering parts,
Song Gear and
Soul Sprocket. Right now the Silver grade sells for 5 gold65 silver and the Gold grade for 19 gold60 silver. On our snapshot day, making Gloaming Alloy or Engineering parts at the same grade as the inputs lost money, so the ore was worth more raw than crafted. Sell tin raw unless your crafting setup can upgrade Silver inputs into Gold results.
What Umbral Tin is
Our datamine of the 12.1 client lists
Umbral Tin Ore at Silver quality and
Umbral Tin Ore at Gold quality. Both are uncommon mining Trade Goods with a vendor price of 15 silver. Like silver, tin has no smelting recipe. It goes into recipes raw.
Tin matters for two professions at once. Blacksmiths need it for Gloaming Alloy, one of the two alloys behind nearly all high end crafted plate and weapons. Engineers need it for the two parts that sit under most Engineering crafts. That double demand is why tin rarely stays cheap for long.
Every recipe that takes the ore
| Recipe | Profession | Tin per craft | Other reagents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gloaming Alloy | Blacksmithing | 6 | 3 Refulgent Copper Ingot, 4 Luminant Flux |
| Hunter's Ritual Stone | Blacksmithing | 6 | 3 Refulgent Copper Ingot, 4 Luminant Flux, 2 Neutralized Venom Clot, 2 Cursebound Globe |
| Soul Sprocket | Engineering | 10 | 5 Refulgent Copper Ore, 1 Malleable Wireframe |
| Song Gear | Engineering | 5 | 10 Refulgent Copper Ore, 1 Malleable Wireframe |
| Nocturnal Charm | Jewelcrafting | 5 | 1 Dusk-Shrouded Stone |
Our datamine also lists a sixth Blacksmithing recipe named Odious Alloy against tin, but the client gives it no reagent or result data, so we leave it out until it means something.
Soul Sprocket is the heaviest tin user per craft at ten ore. Song Gear and Soul Sprocket together use fifteen tin and fifteen copper, an even split, which ties the tin price to Engineering activity as much as to Blacksmithing.
The Gloaming Alloy chain
Gloaming Alloy is the big sink. Our datamine lists 52 recipes that consume it: 50 in Blacksmithing, 1 in Enchanting and 1 in Leatherworking. Crafting each once would use 289 Gloaming Alloy, which is 1,734 tin ore and 867 copper ingots.
| Recipe | Gloaming Alloy per craft |
|---|---|
| Thalassian Ironbender's Regalia (Leatherworking) | 15 |
| Blood Knight's Warblade, Mercy and Impetus | 10 each |
| Bloomforged Greataxe, Magister's Valediction, Spellbreaker's Rebuke | 10 each |
| Knight-Commander's Palisade, Murder Row Fishhook and Fleet Feet | 10 each |
| Spellbreaker's Blade, Warglaive, Ultimatum, Girdle and Bracers | 8 each |
| Magister's Mana Sword and Cleaver, Farstrider's Chopper, Bloomforged Claw | 8 each |
| Housing decor (anvils, racks, workbench) | 5 each |
Sterling Alloy, its sibling made with silver, sits in 56 recipes. The two alloys appear together in most of the same weapons and armor, but the weighting differs: weapons lean on Gloaming, plate armor pieces lean on Sterling. So when a new season sends players after crafted weapons, tin tends to move first. When they chase crafted armor, silver moves first.
The tin hidden in one craft
Turn the alloy counts back into ore and the scale becomes clear. Every Gloaming Alloy holds six tin, so:
| Craft | Gloaming Alloy | Tin ore inside | Copper ore inside (through 3 ingots per alloy) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thalassian Ironbender's Regalia (Leatherworking) | 15 | 90 | 225 |
| Blood Knight's Warblade | 10 | 60 | 150 |
| Spellbreaker's Blade | 8 | 48 | 120 |
| Any Thalassian Competitor's piece (16 recipes) | 2 | 12 | 30 |
The single heaviest tin user in our datamine is not a Blacksmithing weapon at all but a piece of Leatherworking profession gear: the Ironbender's Regalia pulls 90 tin through its alloy. That is a useful reminder that tin demand also rises when crafters of other professions upgrade their own gear. The sixteen Competitor's pieces are the light end, at twelve tin each, and they add up to 192 tin for one of each.
The craft or sell math
At the prices our tables held on 2026-10-08:
| Craft | Input cost, Silver inputs (2026-10-08) | Silver result | Gold result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gloaming Alloy: 6 tin, 3 ingots, 4 flux | 89 gold67 silver | 63 gold84 silver | 156 gold1 silver |
| Soul Sprocket: 10 tin, 5 copper ore, 1 wireframe | 75 gold79 silver | 55 gold28 silver | 111 gold88 silver |
| Song Gear: 5 tin, 10 copper ore, 1 wireframe | 74 gold4 silver | 53 gold | 69 gold27 silver |
Every craft at Silver result quality lost between 20 gold and 26 gold on that day. Upgrading Silver inputs to a Gold result paid on Gloaming Alloy, by about 66 gold34 silver, and on Soul Sprocket, by about 36 gold9 silver. Song Gear lost money even at Gold quality, because its Gold price barely clears its input cost.
Using Gold grade tin to make Gold grade alloy is the worst choice in the table: six Gold tin at 28 gold15 silver plus three Gold ingots at 47 gold90 silver and four flux came to 315 gold, about twice the Gold alloy price.
Decide in five steps
- Check the live tin price for both grades.
- Check the live Gloaming Alloy and Soul Sprocket prices for both grades.
- If you are not a Blacksmith or Engineer, sell the tin raw. The table above says crafters pay more for raw tin than its crafted forms return at the same grade.
- If you are a crafter, craft a test batch from Silver inputs and count the Gold results. Only keep crafting if your Gold share covers the input cost.
- Never feed Gold grade tin into a recipe that does not demand it. Sell the Gold tin and buy Silver for your own crafting.
The Engineering side of tin
Blacksmiths get most of the attention in ore guides, but Engineers are the reason tin has a second leg. Song Gear and Soul Sprocket are the base parts of Midnight Engineering, and they go on to feed higher parts. Our datamine shows, for example, that a Consistent Cogwheel takes two Song Gears, one Soul Sprocket, five Pile of Junk and one
Mote of Light, and a Perfected Cogwheel takes the same gears and sprocket with a
Mote of Pure Void in place of the Light mote. Work that back to ore and one cogwheel needs 20 tin and 25 copper through its gears and sprocket.
That chain behaves differently from the alloy chain. Engineers craft gadgets, goggles and toys that players buy on impulse as well as for raiding, so we would expect their demand to spread across the week rather than bunch before raid nights. Our read, not yet tested against sales data, is that this gives tin a steadier floor than silver: when Blacksmiths slow down, Engineers may still be buying.
There is one more practical point for crafters. Soul Sprocket uses ten tin and five copper; Song Gear uses five tin and ten copper. If you are an Engineer who mines your own ore, you can balance the two crafts against whichever ore you are long on. Heavy on tin, make sprockets. Heavy on copper, make gears.
What to watch on the Auction House
Four signals tell you where tin is heading before the price itself does.
- Gloaming Alloy against tin. If the Silver alloy price falls below the cost of six Silver tin plus three Silver ingots by a wide margin, Blacksmiths will stop crafting at that grade, and tin demand eases within days.
- The Gold over Silver ratio. On 2026-10-08 Gold tin was about five and a half times the Silver price. If that ratio widens, skilled crafters are paying up for Gold inputs, usually because a new recipe or season rewards top quality results.
- Soul Sprocket at Gold quality. It was the one Engineering part that paid when upgraded on our snapshot. If its Gold price drops, Engineers buy less Silver tin.
- Patch notes. A change to either alloy recipe, or a new tier of crafted gear, moves all three base ores at once. Tin, as the ore with two professions behind it, tends to react the most.
Tin, copper and silver side by side
| Refulgent Copper Ore | Brilliant Silver Ore | Umbral Tin Ore | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver grade now | 4 gold98 silver | 5 gold21 silver | 5 gold65 silver |
| Gold grade now | 24 gold36 silver | 21 gold31 silver | 19 gold60 silver |
| Raw recipes (datamine) | 5 | 3 | 5 with data |
| Smelts into | Refulgent Copper Ingot | nothing | nothing |
| Alloy it feeds | both, as ingots | Sterling Alloy | Gloaming Alloy |
| Recipes using that alloy | 56 and 52 | 56 | 52 |
| Engineering demand | yes | no | yes |
On 2026-10-08 tin had the highest Silver grade price of the three and shared the top Gold grade price with silver. Its edge is breadth: it is the only ore with a real Engineering market and a real Blacksmithing market at the same time. Copper has that too, but copper's alloy role runs through the ingot, which is cheap. If you are going to keep one ore stack in reserve for a patch day, tin is a sensible choice.
The 14-day range
Our tables showed Silver tin between 2 gold22 silver and 4 gold40 silver over the two weeks before 2026-10-08, with the current price at 5 gold15 silver. Gold tin ranged from 11 gold25 silver to 24 gold21 silver and printed 28 gold15 silver. Like copper and silver, tin broke above its own range in both grades that week, a sign of fresh crafting demand. Gloaming Alloy moved less: the Silver alloy ranged from 45 gold to 64 gold and the Gold alloy from 141 gold99 silver to 166 gold.
Where to mine it
Miners report Umbral Tin in all four outdoor Midnight zones. The name suggests a void theme, but the client data does not tie the ore to Voidstorm, and player reports find it everywhere. We have not walked a timed route yet.

Voidstorm: Levels 88-90, Unknown, Zone ID 16648
Voidstorm is tuned for levels 88 to 90, the top of the range. It is the last zone most players reach, so deposits there see less traffic early in a patch and more once alts catch up. Player reports place Voidbound deposits here, which give
Mote of Pure Void. See the Voidstorm mining guide.

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947
Zul'Aman (83 to 88) is the zone player reports most often recommend for steady deposit density without Voidstorm's mob pressure. See the Zul'Aman mining guide.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355
Eversong Woods (80 to 83) and Harandar (83 to 88) also have tin. Any base deposit in any zone can give
Dazzling Thorium.

No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.
How to sell it
- Never vendor it: 15 silver per ore in either grade.
- List the grades separately; Gold tin has buyers among alloy crafters chasing top results.
- Sell into two week highs, which tin broke in both grades the week we wrote this.
- Watch Engineering news as well as Blacksmithing news. A new Engineering recipe that uses Soul Sprockets moves tin.
- Split big stacks over several days so you do not drag the price down for yourself.
Is Umbral Tin worth mining?
Yes. It has two professions buying it, a deep alloy chain behind it and, on our snapshot, the highest Silver grade price of the base ores. The Gold grade carries most of the value, so the better your Mining setup, the more tin pays. We will not print an hourly figure until a route is walked and timed. For the full ranking with thorium and the alloys included, read which Midnight ore is worth mining right now.
