The short answer
Dazzling Thorium is the rare bonus ore of Midnight mining. It has no node of its own: you find it while mining the three base ores. Right now it sells for 8 gold85 silver on the US commodity market. That is far below the reputation the ore had early in the expansion, when our own tables priced it many times higher. Its buyers are almost all Blacksmiths, and in every recipe that uses it, the thorium is a small slice of the bill next to the alloys and
Tormented Tantalum. So treat Dazzling Thorium as a welcome bonus on every mining trip, not a reason to go mining by itself, at least until the price recovers.
What Dazzling Thorium is
Our datamine of the 12.1 client lists
Dazzling Thorium as a single rare quality mining Trade Good with a vendor price of 15 silver. Unlike the three base ores, it has no Silver and Gold grades in the client data: there is one item and one price. That makes it simpler to sell than any other Midnight ore. You never have to check which grade you hold.
Our research notes and player reports agree on where it comes from: it turns up as a bonus while you gather Refulgent Copper, Brilliant Silver or Umbral Tin deposits. No zone has a dedicated thorium node. That has a practical meaning for you: the only way to see more thorium is to mine more base deposits. Whichever zone lets you hit the most deposits in a session is also the best thorium zone. The client data does not publish the bonus chance, and we have not measured it, so this page will not guess a rate.
The price history, and why it matters
On 2026-06-20, when our Auction House tables first priced this item, Dazzling Thorium sat at about 80 gold57 silver on the US market. On 2026-10-08 the same tables read 8 gold2 silver, with a 14-day low of 5 gold23 silver and a high of 7 gold50 silver. That is a fall of about 90 percent across one season.
The common wisdom is that rare ores swing harder than base ores. Over a whole season that was true here. Over the last two weeks it was not. Compare the 14-day high divided by the 14-day low on 2026-10-08:
| Item | 14-day low (2026-10-08) | 14-day high (2026-10-08) | High over low |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dazzling Thorium | 5 gold23 silver | 7 gold50 silver | 1.4x |
| Refulgent Copper Ore (Gold) | 6 gold84 silver | 22 gold69 silver | 3.3x |
| Brilliant Silver Ore (Gold) | 11 gold25 silver | 25 gold | 2.2x |
| Umbral Tin Ore (Gold) | 11 gold25 silver | 24 gold21 silver | 2.2x |
| Sterling Alloy (Silver) | 51 gold | 66 gold80 silver | 1.3x |
Here is how to read it. Early in an expansion a rare ore is scarce and every Blacksmith wants it for the first crafted weapons, so it trades at a premium. As more miners reach max level, the supply catches up, the first wave of crafting ends, and the price settles. By October the Gold grade base ores had a two week range one and a half to two and a half times wider than thorium's (2.2x to 3.3x against 1.4x), because their demand moves with weekly crafting and with how many skilled crafters need top grade inputs. Thorium has settled into a narrow band. A narrow band is useful: you can list it at any time of the week without losing much.
Who buys Dazzling Thorium
Our datamine lists 48 recipes that consume Dazzling Thorium: 43 in Blacksmithing, 4 in Engineering and 1 in Enchanting. Crafting each of them once would use 91 thorium. Grouped by what they make:
| Group | Recipes | Thorium per craft | Thorium if each is crafted once |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crafted weapons (Blood Knight's, Bloomforged, Farstrider's, Magister's, Spellbreaker's blades) | 15 | 2 | 30 |
| Crafted plate and shields (Spellbreaker's armor set, Palisade, Murder Row pieces) | 11 | 1 | 11 |
| Sun-Blessed profession tools | 8 | 2 | 16 |
| Sunforged profession tools (with 20 Fused Vitality) | 8 | 2 | 16 |
| Thalassian Master Repair Hammer | 1 | 3 | 3 |
| Runed Dazzling Thorium Rod (Enchanting) | 1 | 3 | 3 |
| Aetherlume gear and P.O.W. x3 (Engineering) | 4 | 3 | 12 |
| Total | 48 | 91 |
Profession tools are the largest single group: sixteen tool recipes, 32 thorium between them. Every gatherer and crafter who upgrades a pickaxe, sickle, knife, needle set or toolbox pulls thorium off the market. That is steady demand, because new players keep arriving at max level and old players keep upgrading. The weapons are the second group, and they move with the raid and season calendar.
Thorium is the cheap part of the bill
This is the number nobody prints, and it explains the price drop. Take a crafted weapon such as Spellbreaker's Blade, which needs 8 Gloaming Alloy, 6 Sterling Alloy, 1 Silvermoon Weapon Wrap, 1 Tormented Tantalum and 2 Dazzling Thorium. At Silver grade alloy prices on 2026-10-08:
| Reagent | Quantity | Unit price (2026-10-08) | Line cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gloaming Alloy (Silver) | 8 | 63 gold84 silver | 510 gold72 silver |
| Sterling Alloy (Silver) | 6 | 65 gold | 390 gold |
| Tormented Tantalum | 1 | 215 gold | 215 gold |
| Dazzling Thorium | 2 | 8 gold2 silver | 16 gold4 silver |
| Silvermoon Weapon Wrap | 1 | not priced in our tables |
Leaving the wrap out, the bill was about 1,131 gold76 silver, and the thorium was about 1.4 percent of it. On a Sun-Blessed Pickaxe (5 Sterling Alloy, 1 Majestic Claw, 2 Dazzling Thorium) the thorium was about 5 percent of the alloy and thorium cost combined. In plain terms, thorium is no longer the bottleneck. The alloys and Tormented Tantalum are. A crafter deciding whether to make a weapon does not care much whether thorium costs 6 gold or 10 gold. That is why its price is so flat: demand does not react to it.
What would push thorium back up? A new batch of recipes that use it in larger amounts, or a patch that adds a new tier of profession tools. Both are things you will see in patch notes before you see them on the Auction House.
Should you farm it?
You cannot farm it directly, and that is the honest answer to the query that brought you here. Every thorium you find comes off a base ore deposit. So the real questions are which base ore to mine and where to mine the most deposits:
- Pick the zone where you can hit the most deposits in a session with the least travel and the fewest fights. Player reports favour Zul'Aman for steady density with manageable mobs, and some call Voidstorm richer still for a geared character; see the Zul'Aman mining guide.
- Mine every base deposit you pass, whichever ore it is. Each one is a chance at thorium.
- Pick your Mining specialization for the base ore you want most. Player reports say deeper points in one ore improve its bonus finds; we have not measured that.
- Bank the thorium and sell it in small batches when the live price is in the top half of its 14-day band.
- Keep a few for your own profession tools if you plan to upgrade them; buying them back later costs the Auction House cut both ways.

Where to mine for it
Because thorium follows deposit count, the zone guides matter more than any thorium specific route. Levels come from the client's content tuning data.

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947
Zul'Aman is tuned for levels 83 to 88. Player reports rate it among the densest ore zones in Midnight, with wild deposits that spawn small earth creatures when mined. More deposits means more thorium chances.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968
Eversong Woods (80 to 83) is calmer and good for learning. See the Eversong Woods mining guide.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355

Voidstorm: Levels 88-90, Unknown, Zone ID 16648
Harandar (83 to 88) and Voidstorm (88 to 90) have the same base ores. Our Harandar and Voidstorm guides cover their extras.
How to sell it
- Never vendor it. 15 silver is a small fraction of even its lowest recent price.
- Check the strip at the top of the page. Inside the band, list freely; above the band, sell everything you do not need.
- Do not undercut by a large step. With a flat market, one big undercut just lowers the price for every seller, including you next week.
- Watch the alloy prices. When Sterling and Gloaming Alloy climb, Blacksmiths are crafting, and thorium demand follows a few days behind.
Mistakes that cost miners money
Three habits lose gold on thorium, and all three come from treating it like the prize it was in the first weeks of the expansion.
The first is hoarding. Plenty of miners kept every thorium they found in early summer, waiting for the old price to come back. Our own tables show what happened instead: the price fell by about nine tenths and then went flat. Holding a stack through that cost more than any undercut ever would have. Sell steadily unless you have a concrete reason, such as a patch note, to expect a jump.
The second is chasing it. Some players fly past base deposits looking for a thorium node. There is no such node. Skipping a deposit skips a thorium chance.
The third is ignoring the base ore. On 2026-10-08, one Gold grade Brilliant Silver Ore sold for more than three thorium. The bonus is nice, but the base ore you mine to get it is often worth more per unit. Our ore guides for Refulgent Copper, Brilliant Silver and Umbral Tin show the base ore prices side by side.
What to watch next
The thorium story is about the season, not the week. Watch three things: patch notes for new recipes that use it, a new raid or season that brings a new tier of crafted weapons, and the price of Tormented Tantalum. When Tantalum gets cheaper, weapon crafting becomes cheaper, more weapons get made, and thorium demand rises with them. For the side by side comparison with every other Midnight metal, read which Midnight ore is worth mining right now. We will not print a gold per hour figure for thorium until we walk and time a route with a full loot log; the inputs are here for you to judge.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
