The methods, ranked
This table ranks each lane by how reliably it pays in Season 2 for a normal player, not by its best-case ceiling. The price column is today's US auction house value of the thing each method produces.
| # | Method | Best for | Needs | Capital | Main output today | Reported yield |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Weekly caches, weeklies, gold world quests | Anyone with 1+ level 90 | Nothing | None | Raw gold | About 2,000 per Apex Cache, about 1,000 per gold world quest |
| 2 | Herbalism + Mining dual gathering | One or two characters, active play | Both professions, some item level | Low (consumables) | ![]() | About 20,000 per hour, up to 50,000 with lumber |
| 3 | Patron orders + Moxie bags | Every crafter, every alt | Crafting professions | Low | 89![]() | 1,000 to 3,000 per day in orders, plus one bag per profession per week |
| 4 | Concentration crafting on alts | Alt armies | Medium | 5![]() | 10,000 to 15,000 per character per week | |
| 5 | Mass crafting chains | Dedicated crafters | Medium to high | 65![]() | Not stated; margin lives in the full chain | |
| 6 | Majestic lure skinning | Skinners with alts | Low | ![]() | One hide per beast per character per day | |
| 7 | Old content raw gold | No professions, AH-shy players | Decent gear | None | Raw gold, legacy mats | About 15,000 per hour at the Motherlode |
| 8 | Flipping and cross-realm selling | Patient players with capital | Add-ons, bank space | High | Varies | About 1.5M per week after two years of stock building |
Reported yield: creator estimates at the time of recording, see sources. They scale with gear, alts and the market, and most have fallen since.
Start here: the first two weeks at level 90
Do these in order. Each step pays for the next one, and nothing here asks you to risk gold you do not have.
- Take the weekly Apex Cache quest from Lady Liadrin on every level 90 and pick the fastest activity offered. This is guaranteed gold with zero market risk.
- Learn

Herbalism and
Mining on your main if you have no professions yet. The trainers are in Silvermoon City. - At 25 skill, pick up the weekly gathering quest and finish it every reset. It unlocks catch-up knowledge and pays knowledge points.
- Tour every Midnight zone once and gather one of each node type. Every first-time gather is a knowledge point.
- Sell everything raw. Do not craft while you are poor. Post herbs and ore in small stacks and keep what does not sell for next day.
- From week two, add patron orders on any character with a crafting profession, and spend the Moxie on that profession's weekly surplus bag.
- Once you hold working capital, pick one crafting chain from the table above and run it small before you scale.
Gathering: the best solo gold per hour
Dual gathering pays because current-content herbs and ore sell within the hour: raiders and crafters burn through them every day. Stack Finesse first (extra materials), then Deftness (speed). Perception only adds rare finds like ![]()
Nocturnal Lotus, so buy it last.

- Learn the gather-while-mounted node in both specialization trees first. It saves more time than any other point you spend.
- Turn on the Interact Key (Options, search "interact", then bind Interact with Target) and install Faster Loot, FarmHud and TomTom.
- Enchant each tool with

Darkmoon Firewater before a long session. Skip them on short runs. - Fly the loop drawn on the map. Wild nodes in Zul'Aman can spawn a mob, so gear up before you farm there.

Crafting: where the margin is in Season 2
Crafting pays in three different ways, and the best profession changes depending on which one you mean.
| Way to profit | How it works | Strongest professions now |
|---|---|---|
| Mass crafting | Craft high-volume items and post daily | Inscription, Jewelcrafting, Cooking |
| Concentration | Spend concentration where rank 1 and rank 2 prices differ most | Alchemy, Tailoring |
| Orders and Moxie | Fill patron orders for tips, rewards and a weekly bag | Every profession, including weak ones |
Mass crafting rewards vertical integration: make your own inputs. An inscriptionist mills herbs into pigments, turns pigments into inks, and inks into ![]()
Soul Cipher
and ![]()
Codified Azeroot
. Every step can be sold, so you sell whichever step pays best that day. Here is what ![]()
Inscription earns today:
| Craft | Reagent cost | Sells for | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|
74 69![]() | 156 42![]() | 73 90![]() | |
74 41![]() | 115 99![]() | 35 78![]() | |
142 28![]() | 150 94![]() | 1 11![]() |
Concentration is valued by one formula: the price gap between ranks multiplied by the crafts one full bar gives you. The gap is widest on a few items, and this table tracks them.
| Item | Today's lowest | 7-day median | vs 7-day |
|---|---|---|---|
289 5![]() | 292 39![]() | -1% | |
3 46![]() | 3![]() | +15% | |
99 98![]() | 111![]() | -10% | |
251 87![]() | 266 71![]() | -6% | |
239 99![]() | 205 91![]() | +17% | |
479 99![]() | 419 30![]() | +14% |
- Install CraftSim and set its price source to TradeSkillMaster or another average price, not the single cheapest listing. One bait listing can make a bad craft look like a gold mine.
- Run a Recipe Scan with concentration enabled and sort by gold per concentration point, not profit per craft.
- Queue the winners, build an Auctionator shopping list from the queue, and buy exactly those reagents.
- Craft from the CraftSim queue so the reagent qualities match the plan.
- Repeat when concentration refills, about every four days.
What 12.1 changed for gold
- Glass conversion. Jewelcrafters can turn 10 rank 1 glass into 1 rank 2 glass. That makes rank 2

Sunglass Vial
cheaper to make and shrinks the concentration gap alchemists lived on. - A new Vantus Rune uses the previous

Vantus Rune: Radiant
as a reagent, which adds one more sellable step to the
Inscription chain.
Cooking moved up. It went from the bottom of the launch rankings to near the top, because food sells in huge volume and new 12.1 feasts and foods arrived.
Flora Frenzy is a good example of a steady seller.- Season start demand. Gems, rank 2 cloth bolts and consumables spike in the first weeks of a season, then settle. Sell into the spike, and stop crafting before the price floor falls out.
- Earlier crashes stayed crashed. Launch-era cloth and disenchanting materials never recovered. If a video from launch told you to farm

Arcanoweave
or disenchant for
Dawn Crystal
, compare its number with today's price before you act on it.
Raw gold without the auction house
Some gold never touches the market. The weekly routine on every level 90 is the floor of any plan: Apex Cache, event weeklies, gold world quests with War Mode on for the bonus, and Great Vault tokens on alts you do not gear. It scales in a straight line with alt count, which is why alt-heavy players treat it as their base income. The full routine, with minutes per task, is on the weekly checklist.
Old content fills the gaps. Solo clears of The MOTHERLODE!! and a handful of Dragonflight raid-finder wings drop raw gold plus vendor loot, and legacy materials like ![]()
Primal Mana still sell to crafters of older recipes. See old content gold farms for the ranked list.

The auction house side
Every method above ends at the auction house, so how you sell matters as much as what you make. Stackable goods trade on one region-wide commodity market. Gear, recipes, pets and mounts trade per realm, which is where cross-realm selling with the Warband bank makes its money. Read selling on the auction house before you post anything expensive, and use our daily flips list with the rules in flipping basics once you hold spare capital.
Saving for a big goal
The mount announced for patch 12.1.5 costs 5 million gold, and its optional vendor add-ons push the full set to about 7 million. Only the mount itself leaves when Midnight ends, so 5 million is the number to plan around. Divide it by the weeks you have left and you know what each week has to earn.
| Weeks to goal | Gold per week needed | What that looks like |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 500,000 | A large alt army plus a crafting chain and cross-realm stock |
| 20 | 250,000 | Weekly routine on many alts plus concentration and patron orders |
| 40 | 125,000 | A few alts on the weekly routine plus one active farm or crafting lane |
- Pick the tier that matches your account: raw gold on alts if you have no capital, concentration and orders if you craft, cross-realm stock if you have capital and patience.
- Keep working capital separate from savings. Crafting chains need reagent money every day; the goal pile should never fund them.
- Log your weekly total. If a lane falls short two weeks running, the market moved; switch lanes instead of working longer.
- Do not buy optional vendor add-ons until the mount is paid for. They stay on sale after Midnight; the mount does not.
When a method stops working
- A gathered item's 7-day median keeps falling while listings grow: too many farmers. Switch zones or professions.
- A craft's profit in the crafts table turns red for three days: concentration crafters have flooded it. Move your concentration to the next widest gap.
- A farm spot gets hotfixed: hyper-spawn and group farms get nerfed without warning. Treat any farm built on respawn tricks as temporary.

How do I make gold with no gold in Midnight?
Do the weekly Apex Cache and gold world quests, learn two gathering professions and sell everything raw. Nothing on that path needs starting capital.
Are the gold per hour numbers in videos real?
They were real for the creator on recording day. Most Midnight material prices have fallen since launch, which is why this site shows today's price next to every item.
How long does 5 million gold take?
At 250,000 a week it takes 20 weeks. Your rate depends on alt count and capital more than on any single method.
