Cap cooking with vendor materials

You will need:
Spiced Biscuits (skill 1 to 35)Hearty Spiced Biscuits (skill 35 to 100)
  1. Learn Spiced Biscuits from the cooking trainer at skill 1. Every material comes from a vendor.
  2. Craft biscuits until skill 35, where they stop giving points.
  3. At 35 you learn hearty food. Turn 5 Spiced Biscuits into Hearty Spiced Biscuits.
  4. Keep crafting the hearty version to 100. It turns green late, so buy extra materials.

Skill is not only for unlocks. Midnight recipes give more servings at higher cooking skill, so reach 100 before you craft to sell.

Gear and setup

  1. Cooking uses only two gear slots: a rolling pin and a chef's hat. No Moxie is needed for them, so best-in-slot gear comes quickly, though not cheaply.
  2. Buy the epic Gilded Sin'dorei Rolling Pin and put a multicraft enchant on it. Its stats are fixed, so do not buy a missive for it.
  3. Carry a second rolling pin with a resourcefulness enchant for hearty food and for filleting fish. Neither can multicraft.
  4. Add a chef's hat such as Chef's Hat until you can afford a better one.
  5. Pandaren get +5 cooking skill and slightly more output. Useful, not required.

Flora Frenzy: the stat food to own

Flora FrenzyFood & DrinkSell Price: 33s50cAuction house today: 17g48s

Flora Frenzy gives 65 of your highest secondary stat. Its main rival as a basic meal is Champion's Bento, which uses fish fillets.

Harandar map
Harandar: the "Late Bloomers" chain that teaches Flora Frenzy starts at 37.0, 26.0. Suggested loop drawn on the in-game map: numbered stops are waypoints, not node spawns.
  • Harandar herb loop Herbalism: 5 stops. Suggested loop from the Eversong Rootway east to the Herbalism Grotto, south past Sporefall, west along the southern edge to The Blinding Vale and back north through The Gulf of Memory; herbs and ore share this ground, so it doubles as a mining route.1. 1. Fly to Harandar and go to 37.0, 26.0.
  2. Take the quest "Late Bloomers" and finish the chain (4 to 5 steps).
  3. Learn Recipe: Flora Frenzy from the reward. Repeat on every cooking character.
  4. Craft Flora Frenzy with the multicraft pin, in batches your realm buys in a day.
  5. Turn some into Hearty Flora Frenzy with the resourcefulness pin. Hearty food persists through death, so raiders pay for fewer rebuffs.
  6. Check class guides at each new tier. Players buy whatever food the guides list, so follow the guides, not habit.

The volume routine

Cooking's Midnight dishes and teas: small margins, but every one of them is eaten and rebought.
Cooking's Midnight dishes and teas: small margins, but every one of them is eaten and rebought.

Cooking went from a bottom-tier profession at launch to a solid one in 12.1, and the reason is volume. Profit per dish is small, and processing was simplified this expansion, so there is less margin per step than in The War Within. What makes it work is that food and teas are consumed every day, and they sell as commodities across the whole region.

  1. Pick the one or two dishes with the best profit in the craft table at the top of this page.
  2. Craft a large batch with the multicraft rolling pin: hundreds at a time, not dozens.
  3. Post them in one go and aim to sell out within a day. Food that sits for a week is a sign you picked the wrong dish.
  4. When a patch adds new food, feasts or fish, craft a small test batch the first day. New recipes carry the widest margins before other cooks catch up.

Teas for gatherers: small margin, easy sales

Argentleaf TeaFood & DrinkSell Price: 33s50cAuction house today: 6g10s

Teas boost gathering. Every tea adds gathering speed plus deftness, finesse or perception, so herbalists, miners and skinners buy them every session. Argentleaf Tea (finesse) and Azeroot Tea are the ones farmers name most. The others are Mana Lily Tea, Sanguithorn Tea and Tranquility Bloom Tea.

  1. Compare each tea's price with the herb it uses. The Midnight herbalism guide tracks herb prices.
  2. Craft the two or three with the widest gap.
  3. Post a few stacks and ignore them. Teas are cheap and competition is thin, so they need no babysitting.

Feasts: babysit expensive batches

Silvermoon Parade and Blooming Feast cost a lot of reagents per craft. A popular feast flip from earlier this expansion has since closed, so check the numbers before you commit.

  1. Price the reagents for one feast with CraftSim and compare with the lowest listing below.
  2. Craft 5 to 10, not 50. Buying hundreds of reagents at once pushes their price up against you.
  3. Watch these listings and undercut promptly. Cheap food you can list and forget; feasts you cannot.
  4. Reinvest the profit into the next small batch.

Finishing reagents: sell the rare one

Bazaar BitesFinishing ReagentsSell Price: 54s50cAuction house today: 614g88s

Earthy Garnish adds about 12 percent resourcefulness and is a common drop, so it stays cheap. Bazaar Bites are rare and give a big output boost. Sell them unless you are crafting your most valuable dish.

Fishing basics

Fishing is steady semi-AFK gold. Pools pay better than open water, and mobs spawn near busy spots to stop bots, so stay at the keyboard. In Midnight only fish can be salvaged: filleting turns fish into Thalassian Fillet for dishes like Champion's Bento, and the fillets themselves sell for little.

  1. Fish pools, not open water.
  2. Sell the fish in the table below that are worth more than a fillet. Fillet the rest for your own cooking.
  3. Use the resourcefulness rolling pin when you fillet.

When it stops working

  • If Flora Frenzy sells below its reagent cost, switch to whatever food class guides list next.
  • If a feast batch does not sell in two days, stop at that batch.
  • If herbs rise faster than tea prices, stop making teas.

Weekly checklist

  1. Craft a day's worth of stat food and hearty food.
  2. Top up teas.
  3. Price one feast before crafting any.
  4. Sell any Bazaar Bites you looted.
  5. Fill cooking patron orders on reset day.

Questions

What is the cheapest way to level cooking in Midnight?

Spiced Biscuits from the trainer to skill 35, then Hearty Spiced Biscuits (5 biscuits each) to 100. Every material comes from a vendor.

How do I get the Flora Frenzy recipe?

Go to Harandar at 37.0, 26.0 and take the quest "Late Bloomers". The chain of 4 to 5 steps rewards Recipe: Flora Frenzy.

Is cooking profitable in Midnight Season 2?

Yes, as a volume profession. Profit per dish is small, but stat food and teas sell every day once you have skill 100 and a multicraft rolling pin.

Can I fillet anything other than fish?

No. In Midnight only fish can be salvaged, into Thalassian Fillet.
