Auction House Flipping in Midnight Season 2 (12.1): How to Read the Daily Flips List

· prices from today's US auction house snapshot (2026-10-03)

Read the flips list, column by column

Our daily flips list scans every US retail commodity each day and keeps items whose lowest listing sits well under the price they usually sell for. It is a shortlist, not a buy order. Here is what each column tells you and what to do with it.

ColumnWhat it meansWhat you do with it
Buy nowToday's lowest listingYour entry price. Check it again in game before you buy; it can be gone in minutes.
Usual priceWhere the lowest price usually sat over the last 7 daysYour realistic exit price, not a guaranteed one
Profit eachUsual price minus buy price, after the 5% auction house cutThe best case. Your real profit is lower if you undercut to sell
ListedUnits sold in the last 24 hoursYour ceiling. Never buy more than one day of it
Why it made the listThe plain-English reasonRead it. It tells you whether the gap is a price drop or one cheap listing

A flip, step by step

  1. Open today's flips and sort out anything with fewer than a few dozen sales a day. Low volume plus a huge margin is a trap until proven otherwise.
  2. Open the item in game and look at the whole listing ladder, not only the cheapest unit. If the cheap price covers a handful of units and the next step is back at the usual price, the flip is real but tiny.
  3. Check the trend (the price table below shows how). A price under its 7-day median that is still falling is a market moving down, not a bargain.
  4. Buy a small test lot, at most a fraction of the Listed number.
  5. Post at or just under the usual price. Commodities sell cheapest first across the whole region, so the lowest price always fills first.
  6. If the test lot sells within a day, repeat with a bigger lot. If it sits for two days, cut the price to break even and move on.

Bargain or falling market?

The single most common flipping loss is buying something "cheap" that keeps getting cheaper. Every row in a price table on this site shows today's lowest, the 7-day median, the change against that median, a 7-day sparkline and the units listed. Practice on the liquid Midnight materials below:

  • Sparkline flat, today's price dips below the median: a real dip. This is the flip you want.
  • Sparkline sloping down for the whole week: the market is resetting lower. The median is behind reality; skip it.
  • Sparkline spikes then returns: someone bought out a wall, and the price is going back. Selling into a spike works; buying into one does not.
  • Units listed much higher than usual: supply is flooding in. Expect the price to follow.

Why crafted items flip badly

Crafted goods rarely make good flips. Crafters can refill supply in minutes and will undercut you the moment your price is profitable for them. Sunfire Silk BoltRank 1 and other bolts, potions and gems all behave this way. Stick to gathered, dropped and currency-gated goods, where nobody can mint new supply on demand. Old-expansion items with collectors behind them (cards, pets, transmog reagents) show up on the list often for that reason.

Bait listings, walls and resets

  • Bait listings: one unit posted absurdly cheap or absurdly expensive. It fools add-ons that price from the single cheapest or highest listing. Use an average-price source in CraftSim or TSM, and never trust one unit.
  • Walls: a big seller posts hundreds of units at one price to hold the market down. Do not buy against a wall hoping it moves; the owner has more stock than you.
  • Resets: a trader buys out the cheap end and reposts high. A reset price looks like "the usual price" for a day or two, then collapses as sellers undercut it. The 7-day median protects you here, because one day of reset barely moves it.

Sizing: how much capital per flip

  1. Never buy more than one day of the Listed number. On a thin item, buy far less.
  2. Never put more than a tenth of your gold into a single item until it has sold through for you once.
  3. Count the 5% cut and the deposit. A posted commodity costs a deposit, and you lose it if you cancel. Small margins vanish fast once both come out.
  4. Keep a reserve. Flipping ties gold up for days; the crafting and gathering you already do should never stall because it is all on the auction house.

Flipping versus cross-realm trading

The big weekly flipping numbers in gold videos come from cross-realm trading of gear, recipes and pets, not from commodities. Those items have a separate price on every realm, and the Warband bank moves them between characters. It pays, but it takes years of stock building and a lot of bank space. See selling on the auction house for how realm markets work before you try it.

Reported yield: creator estimates at the time of recording, see sources. They scale with gear, alts and the market, and most have fallen since.

Common flipping mistakes

  • Buying the whole cheap end of a thin market, then being the wall yourself.
  • Flipping crafted goods against the people who craft them.
  • Trusting one listing, high or low.
  • Paying for a flipping tool before you have run ten manual flips. Free add-ons and this list cover the basics.

Questions

Does auction house flipping work in Midnight retail?

Yes, but commodities trade on one region-wide market, so bargains are small and short. It works best with spare capital, strict volume limits and gathered or dropped goods.

What does the Usual price column mean?

Where the item's lowest price usually sat over the last 7 days. It is a realistic exit price, not a promise, and the profit column already removes the 5% auction house cut.

Why is a flip with a huge margin risky?

Huge margins usually come with very low daily sales. You may wait days to sell, and your own listings become the wall that holds the price down.

Should I flip crafted items?

Rarely. Crafters refill supply on demand and undercut you. Stick to goods nobody can mint on demand.
