Selling on the Midnight Auction House (Season 2, 12.1): Undercutting, Repricing, Cross-Realm

· prices from today's US auction house snapshot (2026-10-03)

Two markets, two sets of rules

Midnight runs two auction houses under one window. Get this right first, because every rule below depends on it.

Item typeMarketPrice isHow to post
Stackable goods: herbs, ore, cloth, potions, food, enchanting materialsCommodityOne price for the whole regionMatch or beat the lowest price; the cheapest units always sell first
Gear, profession gear, recipes, bags, pets, mounts, toys, decorRealmDifferent on every realmPrice against your realm's listings; move stock to realms that pay more

Because commodity prices are regional, the price tables on this site apply to you wherever you play. Realm items have no single price, so this site does not show one for them.

Posting commodities: drip, do not dump

  1. Check the current floor and the 7-day median before you post. The price tables on every guide show both.
  2. Post at the floor or a tiny step under it. On a commodity, undercutting by a large amount only gives gold away to the next buyer.
  3. Post a slice, not your whole stock. A few stacks at a time keeps you from becoming the wall that holds the price down.
  4. When the slice sells, post the next one. Repeat through the week.
  5. If the floor falls under your cost, stop posting and hold. Materials keep; crashed listings do not recover.

Babysit expensive listings, fire and forget cheap ones

How much attention a listing deserves depends on what it cost you to make.

  • Cheap, steady sellers like Argentleaf Tea earn little per unit but face little competition. Post a batch and ignore it until it sells.
  • Expensive crafts like the Silvermoon Parade feast tie up real gold per unit. Check them several times a day, cancel and repost when undercut, and never leave a large batch unwatched overnight.
  • Near-vendor materials like Eversinging DustRank 1 are worth so little per unit that the deposit and your time matter. Post big stacks rarely.

Price from the median, not the last sale

One listing is not a price. Before you post anything expensive, read the 7-day median and the units listed in a price table, then decide. If today's floor sits far under the median while listings pile up, the market is resetting lower and waiting will not help. If the floor sits under the median on thin supply, post a few units at the median and let impatient sellers clear out first.

Timing: reset day and raid nights

Demand peaks when players prepare for the week: reset day, and the evenings when raids and Mythic+ groups run. Post consumables, gems and enchants the evening before. Buy materials midweek, when demand is lowest and gatherers have posted their weekend farming. Our price tables show a 7-day sparkline for every item, so you can see whether an item dips on the same day each week before you plan around it.

Undercut and repost rules

  1. Scan your listings with Auctionator or TSM's undercut scan once or twice a day, not every ten minutes.
  2. On commodities, if you are undercut, repost only when the new floor still covers your cost plus the 5% cut. Otherwise wait for the cheap units to sell through.
  3. On realm items, undercut the lowest comparable listing by a small step. Compare item level and stats, not only the name.
  4. Expect to lose the deposit each time you cancel. On cheap items, let the auction run instead.
  5. Do not start an undercut war on a thin market. Two sellers cutting each other hand the profit to buyers.

Vendor or auction house?

  • Vendor green and blue gear from world quests, delves and dungeons. Disenchanting them yields Eversinging DustRank 1 and Radiant ShardRank 1, which sit close to vendor value.
  • Disenchant epics if you have Enchanting. Dawn CrystalRank 1 still pays more than the vendor.
  • Sell raid BoE epics and rare recipes on the auction house, especially early in a season, when buyers pay most.
  • Vendor everything from old-content raw gold farms. That loot exists for its vendor price.

Cross-realm selling with the Warband bank

Realm items have a separate price on every realm, which is the one place a seller can find a real price gap. Reagents cost the same everywhere, so a craft costs the same on every realm while its selling price does not.

  1. Pick items with a realm price: crafted blue and green gear, profession gear, bags like Weavercloth Bag, engineering toys like Wormhole Generator: Quel'Thalas, transmog and decor.
  2. Create a character on each realm you want to sell on.
  3. Deposit stock in the Warband bank on one character and withdraw it on the character where the price is highest.
  4. Use TSM groups and its bank screen, or Auctionator lists, to post and restock across realms without doing it by hand.
  5. Post a few of each item per realm and restock as they sell. Do not list a hundred bags on one realm at once.
Cost of cross-realm sellingWhat it means for you
TimeSetting up characters, groups and lists takes hours before the first sale
Slow sell-throughMany realm items sell in days or weeks, not hours
Capital lock-upGold sits in stock and deposits while you wait
Bank spaceBags and bank slots become a limit; treat them as capital
ScaleReported yield
About 8,500 listings, 200 to 250 per realm, built over about two yearsAbout 1.5M per week

Reported yield: creator estimates at the time of recording, see sources. They scale with gear, alts and the market, and most have fallen since.

The classic selling mistakes

  • Dumping a whole farm session on the commodity market in one post.
  • Pricing from one listing instead of the 7-day median.
  • Overbuying a reagent because it looked cheap. One seller bought tens of thousands of vellums and called it her biggest mistake.
  • Crafting a big batch before a test lot proved it sells.
  • Moving a reagent market up with your own buying, then pricing your crafts off the inflated cost.

Questions

Is the Midnight auction house region-wide?

For stackable goods (commodities) yes: one price for the whole region. Gear, recipes, pets, mounts, toys and decor still trade per realm.

How much should I undercut?

On commodities, match the floor or go a tiny step under; the cheapest units sell first anyway. On realm items, undercut the lowest comparable listing by a small step.

Should I vendor or auction green and blue gear?

Vendor it. Disenchanting greens and blues gives materials worth close to vendor value. Disenchant epics, and sell BoE epics and rare recipes on the auction house.

How do I sell on other realms?

Make a character on each target realm, move stock through the Warband bank, and post a few items per realm. It works for realm-priced items only, not commodities.
