The short answer
For most herbalists, right now, the answer is Azeroot. Its Silver grade sells for 17 gold64 silver and its Gold grade for 34 gold98 silver, and because the Silver grade alone carries a strong price, every Azeroot node pays no matter how your build is doing. On 2026-10-08 Azeroot was worth more per herb than any other base herb until your Gold share passed about 85 percent, at which point Gold Argentleaf at 37 gold takes over. Mana Lily and Sanguithorn are Gold-only herbs: good with a strong build, weak without one. Tranquility Bloom is never the target. Nocturnal Lotus, at 264 gold96 silver, is worth more than any herb but cannot be farmed directly. This page shows the live numbers and the decision table; we have not walked a timed route, so it compares herb values, not rates.
All six herbs, live
| Herb | Silver now | Gold now | Vendor | Recipes that use it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17 gold64 silver | 34 gold98 silver | 11 silver | 24 | |
| 3 gold82 silver | 37 gold | 9 silver75 copper | 8 | |
| 89 silver | 21 gold68 silver | 10 silver50 copper | 11 | |
| 47 silver | 19 gold78 silver | 9 silver50 copper | 13 | |
| 2 gold | 2 gold20 silver | 7 silver50 copper | 26 | |
| one grade | 264 gold96 silver | 3 gold | 8 |
Recipe counts come from our recipe lookup against client build 12.1.0.69933. They tell you how broad each herb's demand is. Tranquility Bloom and Azeroot are wanted by the most recipes; Argentleaf and the Lotus by the fewest. Broad demand tends to mean steadier prices.
Gold over Silver: the number that sorts the herbs
Every Midnight base herb comes in two grades. How much more the Gold grade is worth decides whether your Herbalism build matters for that herb. On 2026-10-08 our tables read:
| Herb | Silver (2026-10-08) | Gold (2026-10-08) | Gap per herb | Gold over Silver |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tranquility Bloom | 1 gold66 silver | 2 gold20 silver | 54 silver | about 1.3x |
| Azeroot | 14 gold25 silver | 31 gold96 silver | 17 gold71 silver | about 2.2x |
| Argentleaf | 4 gold24 silver | 33 gold70 silver | 29 gold46 silver | about 8x |
| Mana Lily | 1 gold94 silver | 19 gold72 silver | 17 gold78 silver | about 10x |
| Sanguithorn | 60 silver | 17 gold42 silver | 16 gold82 silver | about 29x |
There are three families here. Tranquility Bloom is flat: grade barely matters. Azeroot is balanced: both grades pay. Argentleaf, Mana Lily and Sanguithorn are Gold herbs: nearly all their value is in the Gold grade, so they reward a strong build and punish a weak one.
The value of one herb at your Gold share
Your Gold share is the fraction of your picks that land Gold. The average value of one herb is the Silver price plus your share times the gap. Here it is for each herb at 2026-10-08 prices:
| Your Gold share | Azeroot | Argentleaf | Mana Lily | Sanguithorn | Tranquility Bloom |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 percent | 14 gold25 silver | 4 gold24 silver | 1 gold94 silver | 60 silver | 1 gold66 silver |
| 25 percent | 18 gold68 silver | 11 gold61 silver | 6 gold39 silver | 4 gold81 silver | 1 gold80 silver |
| 50 percent | 23 gold11 silver | 18 gold97 silver | 10 gold83 silver | 9 gold1 silver | 1 gold93 silver |
| 75 percent | 27 gold53 silver | 26 gold34 silver | 15 gold28 silver | 13 gold22 silver | 2 gold7 silver |
| 100 percent | 31 gold96 silver | 33 gold70 silver | 19 gold72 silver | 17 gold42 silver | 2 gold20 silver |
Three crossovers fall out of this table, and they are the heart of the page:
- Argentleaf catches Azeroot at about 85 percent. The Silver difference is 10 gold1 silver and the gap difference is 11 gold75 silver; 10.01 divided by 11.75 is about 0.85. Below that share Azeroot wins per herb.
- Sanguithorn passes Tranquility Bloom at about 7 percent. Below that, a Sanguithorn herb is worth less than the cheapest herb in the game.
- There is no crossover between Mana Lily and Azeroot, or Sanguithorn and Azeroot. Azeroot's Silver price is so high that the Gold herbs never catch it per herb at these prices.
The order at almost every share is Azeroot, then Argentleaf, then Mana Lily, then Sanguithorn, then Tranquility Bloom.
The 14-day ranges: how stable each herb is
A herb that swings wildly is riskier to stockpile. Over the fourteen days before 2026-10-08:
| Herb and grade | 14-day low | 14-day high | High over low |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold Sanguithorn | 13 gold51 silver | 16 gold22 silver | about 1.2x |
| Silver Azeroot | 8 gold42 silver | 14 gold94 silver | about 1.8x |
| Gold Azeroot | 17 gold89 silver | 35 gold95 silver | about 2.0x |
| Gold Argentleaf | 17 gold87 silver | 36 gold83 silver | about 2.1x |
| Gold Mana Lily | 5 gold45 silver | 18 gold | about 3.3x |
| Nocturnal Lotus | 175 gold99 silver | 257 gold | about 1.5x |
One surprise: Gold Sanguithorn was the most stable Gold herb by far. Its Silver grade is near worthless, but its Gold grade held a tight band. Gold Mana Lily was the most volatile, tripling across the window, which makes it the herb most worth timing. The Silver grades of Tranquility Bloom and Sanguithorn both touched a single silver at their lows, below their vendor prices, so on those days the vendor beat the market.
The decision table
Find your Gold share in the left column and read across. If you do not know your share, pick a hundred herbs and count the Gold ones.
| Your Gold share | Target herb | Also stop for | Skip or by-catch | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| under 10 percent | Azeroot | Argentleaf | Mana Lily, Sanguithorn, Tranquility Bloom | Only Azeroot pays in Silver |
| 10 to 40 percent | Azeroot | Argentleaf, Mana Lily | Sanguithorn as by-catch | Gold herbs start to add up, Azeroot still leads |
| 40 to 85 percent | Azeroot and Argentleaf | Mana Lily, Sanguithorn | Tranquility Bloom as by-catch | Argentleaf closes in on Azeroot |
| above 85 percent | Argentleaf | Azeroot, Mana Lily, Sanguithorn | Tranquility Bloom as by-catch | Argentleaf passes Azeroot per herb |
In every row, pick Tranquility Bloom as you pass and keep a stack for Mulches. In every row, a Nocturnal Lotus is a bonus worth more than most of your bag.
Each herb in one paragraph
Azeroot is the default target. It is the only herb whose Silver grade carries a serious price, it sits in 24 recipes across Alchemy, Inscription, Cooking and Enchanting, and it feeds two of the four flasks. The client text says it grows on or around trees, so fly the forest edges. Its risk is that everyone knows it pays, so it is the most picked herb. Full guide: Azeroot.
Argentleaf is the high-share target. Its Gold grade was the most expensive base herb on 2026-10-08, but its Silver grade was only about an eighth of that. It feeds both the Shattered Sun and the Blood Knights flasks, the two heaviest users. With a strong build, Argentleaf is where your Gold share pays best of all, because its gap per herb was the widest in absolute gold. Full guide: Argentleaf.
Mana Lily is the volatile Gold herb. Its Gold price tripled across our fourteen days, which makes timing matter more than for any other herb. It has a second market through Inscription, because its pigment goes into both Midnight inks. The client says it grows near water. Full guide: Mana Lily.
Sanguithorn is the herb with the widest grade gap and, surprisingly, the steadiest Gold price. Silver Sanguithorn is milling stock or vendor fodder; Gold Sanguithorn is reliable flask money for the Magisters and the Blood Knights. The client says it tethers to rocks above or below ground. Full guide: Sanguithorn.
Tranquility Bloom is never the target and always worth picking. It is the reagent in the most recipes of any Midnight herb, 26, and the only input for the three Mulches. Its Gold premium is tiny, so it is the herb where a brand-new herbalist earns as much as a veteran. Full guide: Tranquility Bloom.
Nocturnal Lotus is the jackpot. One Lotus was worth about seventeen Silver Azeroot on 2026-10-08, every raid flask needs one, and no node exists for it. Players report it as a bonus from base herbs. Full guide: Nocturnal Lotus.
When the answer changes
The decision table is only as good as the day's prices. Watch for these shifts, because each one can change the target herb:
- A raid tier starts. All four flasks spike, and Gold Argentleaf, Gold Sanguithorn and Gold Mana Lily rise with them. The 85 percent crossover between Argentleaf and Azeroot can drop sharply when Gold Argentleaf climbs.
- An Inscription patch. Azeroot's tool recipes and Mana Lily's ink role can lift either herb independently of raids.
- A flood of new herbalists. Fresh herbalists produce mostly Silver, which pushes Silver prices down first. Azeroot's lead shrinks when Silver Azeroot falls.
- Your own build improves. Every point of Gold share moves you along the table. Recount your share every week or two.
Where to put this into practice
Since herb prices are region-wide, the zone does not change the value of a herb; it changes how many you find and how many other pickers you meet. Zone levels are from the client's content tuning data.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355
Harandar is where player reports place Azeroot, Argentleaf and Sanguithorn together. Our Harandar guide builds a loop around them.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968
Eversong Woods is the 80 to 83 zone with Lightfused nodes that yield extra herbs. See the Eversong Woods guide.

Where each herb grows, in the client's own words
Choosing a herb is only half the job. The other half is knowing where to look for it once you are in the air, and here the client gives more help than most guides admit. The gathering spell for each base herb carries a line of lore, and four of those lines say where the plant likes to grow. We read them from our datamine of client build 12.1.0.69933:
| Herb | What the client text says about where it grows | What that means from the saddle |
|---|---|---|
| Azeroot | a sturdy wooden herb found on or around trees in Quel'Thalas | fly the forest edges and the bases of large trees |
| Mana Lily | look around bodies of water | follow rivers, lake shores and coastlines |
| Sanguithorn | tethered to rocks, above or under ground | scan cliffs, rock shelves and cave mouths |
| Argentleaf | regularly found among other common foliage | open meadows and mixed foliage |
| Tranquility Bloom | a staple strain of the old Peacebloom, no terrain line | anywhere; it is the filler between targets |
This turns the value table above into a flight plan. If Azeroot is your target, as it is for most shares, a route that hugs tree lines will see more of it than one that crosses open water. If you are building toward a Mana Lily session because Gold lilies are near the top of their range, a river or shoreline loop is the obvious frame. Sanguithorn hunters should expect more stops at rock faces, which is slower flying but also where fewer casual pickers look.
None of this is a spawn count. The text tells you the terrain the herb favours, not how many nodes a zone holds, and nobody has walked and logged a route yet. Treat it as a way to bias your eyes toward the right ground, then confirm with a few loops of your own.
How to re-run this yourself
Prices move daily. The live columns at the top of this page update on every load, so you can redo the decision in a minute:
- Read Silver and Gold for each herb from the live table.
- Work out the gap for each: Gold minus Silver.
- For your Gold share, compute Silver plus share times gap for each herb.
- The highest number is your target herb today.
- To find where two herbs cross, divide the difference in Silver prices by the difference in gaps.
Is this the final answer?
It is the answer for herb value. The missing piece is node frequency and herbs per node, which only a walked, logged route can supply, and none has been walked yet. When we have one, this page will add it. For the details behind each row, read the herb guides: Azeroot, Argentleaf, Mana Lily, Sanguithorn, Tranquility Bloom and Nocturnal Lotus. How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
