Sanguithorn in Midnight: Why the Silver Grade Barely Sells
Sanguithorn priced live in both grades, the widest Silver to Gold gap of any Midnight herb, its 13 recipes, and the sell or mill arithmetic with live pigment prices.

The short answer
Sanguithorn is two different products wearing one name. Gold Sanguithorn sells for 19 gold78 silver, a solid mid-range herb price. Silver Sanguithorn sells for 47 silver, and on 2026-10-08 the Gold grade was worth about 29 times the Silver one, the widest gap of any Midnight herb. Over the fortnight before that, Silver even listed as low as a single silver per herb, which is below the 9 silver50 copper the vendor pays. So the rule is blunt: farm Sanguithorn for Gold, and treat every Silver herb as milling stock or vendor fodder, not as something to list.
What the client says about Sanguithorn
Our datamine of client build 12.1.0.69933 lists
Sanguithorn at Silver quality and
Sanguithorn at Gold quality. Both are uncommon item level 80 Trade Goods, vendor price 9 silver50 copper. The gathering spell's lore gives you the history and a search tip in one breath. Sanguithorn is the evolved form of bloodthistle, the old blood elf herb, now used across professions after alchemical breakthroughs. Then the useful part: Sanguithorn tethers itself to rocks, "either above or under the ground", so check for it in rugged terrain. That means cliffs, rocky slopes and cave mouths, and it is the reason Sanguithorn nodes often sit next to ore.
The datamine lists the full set of node variants for Sanguithorn: plain, Lush, Lightfused, Primal, Wild and Voidbound gathering spells. Each zone's infused version exists for this herb.

Two flasks lead the list. The Magisters asks for eight and the Blood Knights for six, so Sanguithorn demand rises with every raid week. The PvP flask, Vicious Thalassian Flask of Honor, also takes eight. A good share of the rest are utility potions that crafters make in small runs.
Why Silver Sanguithorn barely sells
On 2026-10-08 our tables read Silver at 60 silver and Gold at 17 gold42 silver. Across the previous fourteen days, Silver ranged from 1 silver to 43 silver and Gold from 13 gold51 silver to 16 gold22 silver. Both grades were above their fortnight highs on the evening we checked.
The gap comes from how crafters use the herb. In a flask bill at Silver prices, eight Silver Sanguithorn in a Magisters craft cost 4 gold80 silver out of 273 gold76 silver, under 2 percent, while the Nocturnal Lotus is over 90 percent. A crafter making ordinary flasks does not care what Sanguithorn costs. A crafter chasing the top-grade flask buys Gold, and switching all eight to Gold adds 134 gold56 silver to the craft. Our tables show the top-grade Magisters at 374 gold90 silver against 93 gold79 silver for the lower grade. That top-grade premium is what Gold Sanguithorn is priced against. Silver has no such buyer, and every herbalist in Midnight produces it as by-catch, so it piles up.
| Your Gold share | Value of 100 Sanguithorn (2026-10-08) |
|---|---|
| 0 percent | 60 gold |
| 10 percent | 228 gold20 silver |
| 25 percent | 480 gold50 silver |
| 50 percent | 901 gold |
Every ten points of Gold share adds 168 gold20 silver per hundred herbs. At 0 percent, a hundred Sanguithorn are worth about as much as four Silver Azeroot. At 50 percent they are a respectable bag. No herb rewards your Herbalism build more sharply. See our Gold quality guide for what raises your share.
Sell or mill: the arithmetic with live pigment prices
Scribes mill Sanguithorn into Sanguithorn Pigment, and our tables price two items under that name:
Sanguithorn Pigment at 12 gold92 silver and
Sanguithorn Pigment at 45 silver. On 2026-10-08 the higher one was about twenty times the lower one. The pigment goes into
Munsell Ink, which needs 10 Sanguithorn Pigment, 5 Mana Lily Pigment, 20 Powder Pigment and 3 Thalassian Songwater per craft. Munsell Ink is used in Inscription missives, treatises, contracts and the Soul Cipher, so pigment demand follows Inscription, not raids.
The milling yield is not in the client data and we have not measured it, and we do not know which herb grade produces which pigment item. So here is the break-even in a form you can fill in after one test batch. Take twenty herbs of one grade:
| Twenty herbs | Herb value (2026-10-08) | Pigments needed to beat it, higher pigment | Pigments needed, lower pigment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver | 12 gold | 1 (at 12 gold34 silver) | 22 (at 57 silver) |
| Gold | 348 gold40 silver | 29 | more than 600 |
The conclusion holds across any realistic yield. Gold Sanguithorn should be sold as a herb: no milling result comes close to its herb price. Silver Sanguithorn is where milling makes sense. If your test batch of twenty Silver herbs gives even one of the higher-priced pigment, milling beats listing. If it only gives the lower one, you need more than one pigment per herb to win. Both are before the 5 percent Auction House cut on each side, which does not change the answer here.
- Mill a test batch of twenty Silver Sanguithorn.
- Note which pigment item you received and how many.
- Multiply by its live price and compare with 47 silver times twenty.
- If milling wins, mill all your Silver from now on and recheck weekly.
- Sell Gold as herbs into flask demand.
The quieter buyers: PvP, cooking and Inscription
Raid flasks get the attention, but three smaller buyers keep Gold Sanguithorn moving between raid weeks.
The first is PvP. The Vicious Thalassian Flask of Honor takes eight Sanguithorn, more than either raid flask, and it does not need a Nocturnal Lotus. That makes it the one flask whose bill is mostly herbs: at 2026-10-08 Silver prices, the eight Sanguithorn were a small line, but the six Azeroot were the biggest cost. PvP flask demand follows the arena season rather than the raid calendar, so it fills the gaps.
The second is cooking. Crimson Calamari takes six and Bloodthistle-Wrapped Cutlets five. Cooks buy the cheapest grade they can find, so this demand lands on Silver, which is the one place a Silver listing can actually clear. If you see Silver sitting a little above the vendor value and you want rid of a stack, cooking demand is what eventually buys it.
The third is Inscription, through the pigment. Every Munsell Ink needs ten Sanguithorn Pigment, and Munsell Ink feeds the Soul Cipher, the four Thalassian Missives, the Thalassian treatises on Alchemy, Herbalism and Mining, and the Amani contract. Scribes need those every week, which is why the higher-priced pigment holds its value even while Silver herbs sit unsold.
A plan for a new herbalist
If you just started Midnight Herbalism, your Gold share is low and Sanguithorn will mostly give you Silver. Do not avoid the nodes, because every pick still counts toward your skill and the Gold herbs you do get are worth having. Do this instead:
- Pick every Sanguithorn you pass, but do not route toward it. Route toward Azeroot.
- Bank Silver Sanguithorn until you have a few hundred, then run the milling test above, or trade it to a scribe friend.
- Sell every Gold Sanguithorn you get, in small batches, on the days before a raid reset.
- Spend your first Herbalism Knowledge on the points that raise your Gold share. Sanguithorn rewards that more than any herb.
- Come back to Sanguithorn as a target once your Gold share passes a quarter of your picks. At that share a hundred herbs were worth 480 gold50 silver on 2026-10-08.
Common mistakes
Listing Silver Sanguithorn at the market price and walking away is the most common one. The market for Silver is so thin that your listing may sit for days while the price drifts toward the vendor value. Either mill, vendor, or undercut hard and accept it.
The second is milling Gold. Our table shows no realistic yield makes it pay. A scribe who mills Gold Sanguithorn is buying pigment at many times its market price.
The third is ignoring cave mouths. The client text says Sanguithorn tethers to rocks below ground as well as above, so the nodes inside cave entrances are part of the herb's range, and fewer pickers bother to check them.
Where to look for Sanguithorn
The client gives the terrain: rocks, above or below ground. For zones, player reports put Sanguithorn in Harandar and Eversong Woods, while other player guides say every base herb grows in every Midnight zone. We have not walked a route to settle it. Zone levels are from the client's content tuning data.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355
Harandar mixes rock faces with its forest, and our Harandar guide builds a loop that fills all three flask herbs at once. Primal herbs here grant an extra Skyriding charge when picked.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968
Eversong Woods is the 80 to 83 zone. Its Lightfused herbs release motes of holy energy and yield extra resources, according to the client text. Our datamine lists a Lightfused Sanguithorn gathering spell.

What to watch on the Auction House
- The Gold price against its 14-day high. On 2026-10-08 Gold was above its fortnight high. Sell some, keep some.
- Magisters and Blood Knights prices. Their top grades set the ceiling for Gold Sanguithorn.
- Munsell Ink. If the ink rises, Silver milling gets better. If it falls, the vendor gets more attractive for Silver.
- New herbalists. Every new herbalist adds Silver supply first, because their Gold share starts low. Silver drops hardest early in a patch.
Is Sanguithorn worth farming?
For Gold, yes, once your Gold share is meaningful. For Silver, no, unless you mill. That split is sharper here than on any other Midnight herb, and it makes Sanguithorn a good test of your build: if your share is low, Azeroot pays far more per node. If it is high, Gold Sanguithorn is steady flask money. We cannot print a rate because no route has been walked.
