Getting More Gold-Quality Herbs in Midnight
What the datamined Midnight Herbalism specialization tree says about raising your Gold share, what that share is worth per 100 herbs at live prices, and when Empowered Mulch pays.

The short answer
Your Gold share, the fraction of picks that land as Gold quality, is the biggest lever on what your herbs are worth, and it is mostly built through the Midnight Herbalism specialization tree. Our datamine of the tree shows a general harvesting branch called Bountiful Harvests with one sub-specialization per base herb, a Botany branch for gathering efficiency with Mulching and Cultivation underneath it, and four zone branches for Lightfused, Primal, Wild and Voidbound herbs. Points come from Midnight Herbalism Knowledge, which the client says you earn from gathering discoveries and trainer quests in Silvermoon City. At today's prices, raising your share from 10 to 40 percent adds about 884 gold per hundred Argentleaf and almost nothing per hundred Tranquility Bloom. So spend on the herbs where Gold pays. Gold Argentleaf sells for 37 gold against 3 gold82 silver for Silver.
Where specialization points come from
Our datamine has a currency named Midnight Herbalism Knowledge. Its client description says Knowledge is used to learn Herbalism Specializations, and that it is gained "through various means such as studying discoveries found while gathering and completing quests offered by your trainer in Silvermoon City." The datamine also contains a weekly Herbalism Knowledge tracker for 12.x and a tracker for an Inscription book, which matches the Thalassian Treatise on Herbalism, an Inscription recipe in our data made from 1 Munsell Ink, 1 Sienna Ink, 3 Lexicologist's Vellum and 1 Mote of Light. There are also Herbalism Specialization Reset currencies in the data.
What that means in practice: Knowledge is earned steadily over weeks, not bought in one go. A two-week-old herbalist and a season-old one have very different trees, and therefore very different Gold shares. Player guides add detail on weekly sources and one-time books; treat their exact counts as player reports.
The Midnight Herbalism tree, from the datamine
| Branch | Node text (paraphrased from the client) | What it means for Gold share |
|---|---|---|
| Bountiful Harvests | spot, harvest and store Midnight herbs more efficiently; a gathering bonus per point | general gathering bonus on every herb |
| Bountiful Harvests milestones | raise your minimum yield and later your maximum yield when gathering Midnight herbs | more herbs per node, not better grade |
| Bloom Bringer | bonus while gathering Tranquility Bloom | Gold share on the herb where Gold is worth least |
| Silver Searcher | bonus while gathering Argentleaf | Gold share on the herb with the widest gap |
| Root Rummager | bonus while gathering Azeroot | Gold share on the balanced herb |
| Lily Looter | bonus while gathering Mana Lily | Gold share on a Gold-heavy herb |
| Thorn Thresher | bonus while gathering Sanguithorn | Gold share on the herb with the widest ratio |
| Botany | gather more efficiently; gather while mounted; picking a Midnight herb replenishes a Skyriding charge | speed, not grade |
| Mulching (under Botany) | skills for Lush herbs; learn to make Magical and Imbued Mulch | Lush node bonus and the Mulch consumables |
| Cultivation (under Botany) | named in the data, no description | unknown |
| Lightfused, Primal, Wild, Voidbound | attune to that zone's infused herbs, a bonus per point while gathering them | bonus on one zone's infused nodes |
Each herb sub-specialization has the same shape in the data. Several nodes give a bonus "while gathering" that herb. One node says your Finesse has a chance to yield additional herbs of that kind. And one node says your senses become keen enough to notice Nocturnal Lotus more often alongside that herb. That last line is datamine fact: specializing in a herb raises how often you find a Lotus with it. The size of the increase is not in the text.
Which stat the "while gathering" nodes add is one of the runtime values we do not resolve. Player guides say these nodes add Herbalism skill and that higher skill raises the chance of Gold quality, which is how gathering quality worked in the previous expansion too. We have not measured it, so read that link as a player report. What the data does tell you for certain is that the per-herb branches are the only nodes aimed at a single herb, so they are where you choose which herbs your Gold share grows on.
What a point of Gold share is worth, per herb
Here is the reason to care. If your Gold share rises by some number of points, each hundred herbs gains that many herbs moved from Silver to Gold, each worth the gap between the grades. At 2026-10-08 prices:
| Herb | Silver now | Gold now | Gap (2026-10-08) | Gain per 100 herbs, 10 to 40 percent share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Argentleaf | 3 gold82 silver | 37 gold | 29 gold46 silver | 883 gold80 silver |
| Mana Lily | 89 silver | 21 gold68 silver | 17 gold78 silver | 533 gold40 silver |
| Azeroot | 17 gold64 silver | 34 gold98 silver | 17 gold71 silver | 531 gold30 silver |
| Sanguithorn | 47 silver | 19 gold78 silver | 16 gold82 silver | 504 gold60 silver |
| Tranquility Bloom | 2 gold | 2 gold20 silver | 54 silver | 16 gold20 silver |
The arithmetic for Argentleaf: 30 points of share on 100 herbs moves 30 herbs from Silver to Gold, and 30 times 29 gold46 silver is 883 gold80 silver. The other rows follow the same way.
Three lessons. First, Argentleaf rewards Gold share most in absolute gold, because its gap is the widest. Second, Mana Lily, Azeroot and Sanguithorn are almost tied in the middle. Third, Tranquility Bloom barely rewards Gold share at all: thirty points on a hundred Bloom are worth about 16 gold. If you spend specialization points to raise your Gold share, Silver Searcher comes first by value and Bloom Bringer last.
Worked example: 100 herbs at three skill levels
Take a hundred herbs of each kind and value them at three Gold shares with 2026-10-08 prices. This is what a new, middling and strong herbalist would get from the same hundred picks.
| Herb | 10 percent Gold | 40 percent Gold | 70 percent Gold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Argentleaf | 718 gold60 silver | 1,602 gold40 silver | 2,486 gold20 silver |
| Azeroot | 1,602 gold10 silver | 2,133 gold40 silver | 2,664 gold70 silver |
| Mana Lily | 371 gold80 silver | 905 gold20 silver | 1,438 gold60 silver |
| Sanguithorn | 228 gold20 silver | 732 gold80 silver | 1,237 gold40 silver |
| Tranquility Bloom | 171 gold40 silver | 187 gold60 silver | 203 gold80 silver |
Read across a row to see what building your tree is worth for that herb. Read down a column to see which herb to fly to at your current share. At 10 percent, Azeroot is worth more than twice Argentleaf. At 70 percent, the two are close. That is the whole case for building Gold share: it turns Argentleaf, Mana Lily and Sanguithorn from weak herbs into good ones, while Azeroot is good from day one.
Empowered Mulch: buying Gold quality one node at a time
Our datamine lists
Empowered Mulch as a Herbalism recipe that takes 20 Tranquility Bloom and nothing else, and the tree's Mulching branch teaches
Magical Mulch and
Imbued Mulch. Player guides describe Empowered Mulch as guaranteeing Gold-quality herbs on your next gather. We have not tested that. If it is right, here is the break-even with 2026-10-08 prices, where twenty Silver Bloom cost 33 gold20 silver:
| Mulch the next node of | Gap per herb | Herbs that must turn Silver to Gold to pay for it |
|---|---|---|
| Argentleaf | 29 gold46 silver | about 1.1 |
| Mana Lily | 17 gold78 silver | about 1.9 |
| Azeroot | 17 gold71 silver | about 1.9 |
| Sanguithorn | 16 gold82 silver | about 2.0 |
| Tranquility Bloom | 54 silver | about 61 |
So on an Argentleaf node, the Mulch pays for itself if it turns even two herbs from Silver to Gold. On a Tranquility Bloom node it never pays. Save Empowered Mulch for a Lush Argentleaf, Mana Lily or Sanguithorn node, where the client says yields are higher, and never use it on Bloom.
Other things that may raise your share
These come up in player guides. Our data confirms the items exist; their effects on Gold share are player reports unless stated.
- Profession gear. Our recipe data has Herbalism gear such as the Sin'dorei Herbalist's Backpack (Leatherworking, needs 4 Nocturnal Lotus and 10 Mote of Light), the Eversong Botanist's Satchel and the Thalassian Herbtender's Cradle. Gathering gear in recent expansions carries gathering stats.
- Haranir phials. The Haranir Phial of Perception and Phial of Finesse are named for gathering stats. Player guides recommend them for gatherers.
- Herb teas. Each base herb has a tea in our cooking data, made from two herbs (six for Tranquility Bloom Tea) and a Mana-Wyrm Essence. Player guides describe them as gathering food.
- Enchant Tool: Sin'dorei Deftness. An enchant in our data for gathering tools.
The gear bill: what Herbalism equipment costs to craft
Profession gear is the part of a Gold-share build you can buy rather than earn. Two Leatherworking recipes in our data are made for herbalists, and both lean on the most expensive herb in the expansion. Here is the reagent list from our recipe lookup, with the bill read from our tables on the evening of 2026-10-08:
| Recipe | Reagents | Bill we could price | Nocturnal Lotus share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sin'dorei Herbalist's Backpack | 1 Scalewoven Hide, 2 Composite Flora, 20 Silverleaf Thread, 10 Mote of Light, 4 Nocturnal Lotus | 1,048 gold6 silver | about 95 percent |
| Thalassian Herbtender's Cradle | 1 Infused Scalewoven Hide, 4 Composite Flora, 40 Silverleaf Thread, 40 Mote of Wild Magic, 20 Fused Vitality, 8 Nocturnal Lotus | 3,082 gold63 silver, partial | about 65 percent of the priced part |
The arithmetic: with
Nocturnal Lotus at 249 gold that evening, four Lotus came to 996 gold, and 996 divided by 1,048.06 is about 0.95. For the Cradle, eight Lotus came to 1,992 gold out of the 3,082 gold63 silver we could price; one or more reagents had no listing, so the real bill is higher and the Lotus share somewhat lower.
What that tells you as a herbalist:
- Your gear is a Lotus purchase. The rest of the Backpack costs about 52 gold. If you are lucky enough to pick four Lotus yourself, the Backpack is close to free to commission from a leatherworker.
- The stat values on the gear are filled in at runtime, so we cannot tell you how many points of Gold share a Backpack buys. Player guides say gathering gear carries the gathering stats, which is consistent with earlier expansions, but treat that as a player report.
- Compare before you buy. Use the worked example above: if a piece of gear adds even a few points of Gold share on Argentleaf, it pays back over a few thousand herbs. On Tranquility Bloom it never will.
- Watch the Lotus price, not the gear price. When the Lotus dips toward its 14-day low, that is the cheapest moment to have gear crafted.

How to spend your first Knowledge, step by step
- If you are not a Druid, look at the Botany node that lets you gather while mounted. Player guides put it first because dismounting at every node costs time on every pick.
- Put points into Bountiful Harvests for the general bonus and the minimum and maximum yield milestones.
- Open the herb sub-specializations in order of gap: Silver Searcher, then Lily Looter or Root Rummager, then Thorn Thresher. Recheck the gaps on the live table first; they move.
- Learn Mulching when you can, and keep 20 Tranquility Bloom ready for an Empowered Mulch on a good node.
- Put zone points into the zone you herb most: Lightfused for Eversong, Primal for Harandar, Wild for Zul'Aman, Voidbound for the Voidstorm.
- Count a hundred picks every week or two. Your measured Gold share is the input to every table on this page.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355
Is building Gold share worth it?
Yes, for every herb except Tranquility Bloom. A strong share more than triples the value of a hundred Argentleaf or Mana Lily and multiplies Sanguithorn several times over, and the tree even raises your Lotus chances alongside the herbs you specialize in. What we cannot tell you yet is how many points it takes to reach a given share, because the node values are runtime numbers and no route has been walked and logged. Use the tables here with your own count. For which herb to target today see our best herb guide; for the Gold-heavy herbs read Mana Lily and Sanguithorn; for the Lotus see Nocturnal Lotus; and browse the Herbalism hub and the retail guides index.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
