The short answer
Nocturnal Lotus is the most valuable herb in Midnight and the one you cannot farm on purpose. It sells for 264 gold96 silver on the US commodity market. Across the fourteen days before 2026-10-08 it ranged from 175 gold99 silver to 257 gold, and on that evening it sat near the top of the range. Every one of the four Midnight raid flasks needs one, and in a flask made with Silver herbs the Lotus is between 63 and 91 percent of the whole bill. There is no Nocturnal Lotus node: herbalists get it as a bonus while picking the base herbs. Blizzard publishes no drop rate and we have not measured one, so this page tells you what it is worth and when to sell, not how many you will find.
What the client says about it
Our datamine of client build 12.1.0.69933 lists
Nocturnal Lotus as a single item: rare quality, Trade Goods, Herb, gathered with Herbalism, vendor price 3 gold. Unlike the five base herbs it has only one grade, so there is no Silver or Gold to manage. One quirk: the client lists its item level as 70, while the base herbs are item level 80. That has no effect on how it is used. A Lotus is a Lotus in every recipe that asks for one.
Who needs a Lotus: eight recipes
Our recipe lookup returns eight recipes that use Nocturnal Lotus: six in Alchemy and two in Leatherworking.
| Recipe | Profession | Lotus per craft | The rest of the recipe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flask of the Shattered Sun | Alchemy | 1 | 2 Sunglass Vial, 8 Azeroot, 6 Argentleaf, 2 Mote of Primal Energy |
| Flask of the Blood Knights | Alchemy | 1 | 2 Sunglass Vial, 8 Argentleaf, 6 Sanguithorn, 2 Mote of Wild Magic |
| Flask of the Magisters | Alchemy | 1 | 2 Sunglass Vial, 8 Sanguithorn, 6 Mana Lily, 2 Mote of Pure Void |
| Flask of Thalassian Resistance | Alchemy | 1 | 2 Sunglass Vial, 8 Mana Lily, 6 Azeroot, 2 Mote of Light |
| Cauldron of Sin'dorei Flasks | Alchemy | 1 | 20 Sunglass Vial, 4 Wondrous Synergist, 5 Stabilized Derivate, 4 Petrified Root |
| Voidlight Potion Cauldron | Alchemy | 1 | 20 Sunglass Vial, 4 Wondrous Synergist, 5 Stabilized Derivate, 4 Petrified Root |
| Sin'dorei Herbalist's Backpack | Leatherworking | 4 | 1 Scalewoven Hide, 2 Composite Flora, 20 Silverleaf Thread, 10 Mote of Light |
| Thalassian Herbtender's Cradle | Leatherworking | 8 | 1 Infused Scalewoven Hide, 4 Composite Flora, 40 Silverleaf Thread, 40 Mote of Wild Magic, 20 Fused Vitality |
The flask recipes take one Lotus each, and all four raid flasks are in that list, so Lotus demand is raid demand. The one flask recipe without a Lotus is the PvP Vicious Thalassian Flask of Honor. The two Leatherworking recipes are Herbalism gear: a backpack and a cradle for herbalists. That is a neat loop. The profession that finds the Lotus is also one of the buyers, because herbalists gearing up need four or eight of them for their own equipment.
The Lotus share of every flask bill
This is the number nobody prints. For each flask, here is the Lotus line as a share of the whole craft at 2026-10-08 prices, first with every herb bought at Silver, then with every herb bought at Gold:
| Flask | Bill with Silver herbs | Lotus share | Bill with Gold herbs | Lotus share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flask of the Magisters | 273 gold76 silver | about 91 percent | 515 gold | about 49 percent |
| Flask of the Blood Knights | 295 gold60 silver | about 85 percent | 632 gold20 silver | about 40 percent |
| Flask of Thalassian Resistance | 358 gold98 silver | about 70 percent | 607 gold48 silver | about 41 percent |
| Flask of the Shattered Sun | 397 gold72 silver | about 63 percent | 716 gold16 silver | about 35 percent |
Read the left half first. A crafter making ordinary flasks is really buying a Lotus with some herbs attached. A change of 25 gold in the Lotus price moves a Magisters craft by about 9 percent, while doubling the price of every herb in it moves it by less than 9 percent too. The right half shows the top-grade crafter's view: once the herbs are Gold, the Lotus falls to between a third and a half of the bill, and the herbs matter as much as it does.
What does that mean for you as a seller? Flask crafters cannot substitute away from the Lotus. Every raid flask needs exactly one. They can switch between flasks to avoid an expensive herb, but they cannot avoid the Lotus. That is why its price follows the raid calendar so closely, and why it barely reacts to herb prices.
The cauldrons and the leather gear
The two cauldrons look like big Lotus users, but they are not. At 2026-10-08 prices the parts we can price came to about 2,254 gold per cauldron craft: four Petrified Root at 348 gold24 silver each were 1,392 gold96 silver, four Wondrous Synergist were 542 gold96 silver, the twenty vials 68 gold, and the Lotus only 250 gold8 silver, about 11 percent. Stabilized Derivate has no Auction House price in our tables, so the true bill is higher still. For cauldron makers, the Lotus is a minor line.
The leather gear is the opposite. A Sin'dorei Herbalist's Backpack takes four Lotus, which came to 1,000 gold32 silver of a 1,050 gold18 silver bill: about 95 percent. The Thalassian Herbtender's Cradle takes eight, 2,000 gold64 silver of the 3,086 gold87 silver we could price. When a new herbalist wave hits a patch, these recipes pull Lotus off the market in batches of four and eight.
Price history: reading the 14-day range
Over the fortnight before 2026-10-08 the Lotus moved between 175 gold99 silver and 257 gold, a swing of 81 gold1 silver. At 250 gold8 silver on that evening it was about 91 percent of the way from the low to the high. Some yardsticks for what one Lotus was worth that day:
| One Lotus equals | Count (2026-10-08) |
|---|---|
| Silver Azeroot | about 17.5 |
| Gold Argentleaf | about 7.4 |
| Gold Sanguithorn | about 14.4 |
| Silver Sanguithorn | about 417 |
| Silver Tranquility Bloom | about 151 |
That last pair is the honest picture of herb farming in Midnight: a single Lotus can be worth more than a full session of cheap herbs. It is also why every herbalist hopes for one, and why the price drops whenever a wave of new pickers floods the zones.
How you get a Lotus: what is known and what is not
There is no Nocturnal Lotus node in our datamine. It is not one of the herb gathering spells. Players report that it appears as a bonus when gathering any Midnight base herb, but the chance is not published and we have not timed or counted it. So instead of a number, here are the levers players talk about, labelled for what they are:
- More picks means more chances. If the Lotus is a bonus on base herb gathers, the number of nodes you pick is the main input. Player guides tie this to Finesse, the stat that gives more herbs per node. This is a player report.
- Imbued Mulch. Our datamine lists
Imbued Mulch as a Herbalism recipe made from 10 Tranquility Bloom. Player guides say it guarantees a rare reagent on your next gather. We have not tested it. At 2026-10-08 prices, the ten Silver Bloom cost 16 gold60 silver, so if the description is right it is the cheapest Lotus you will ever buy. - Perception is not a reliable lever. Player testing summarised in our research says Perception changes the quantity when a rare proc happens rather than the chance of one. Treat any guide promising more Lotus from Perception with caution.
- Specialization on one herb. This one is in the datamine. Each of the five herb sub-specializations in the Midnight Herbalism tree has a node saying your senses become keen enough to notice Nocturnal Lotus more often alongside that herb. The size of the increase is a runtime value we do not evaluate, so we cannot say how much. See our Gold quality guide for the tree.
Where to pick for Lotus chances
Since the Lotus comes from base herbs, the best zone for it is the zone where you pick the most herbs. Zone levels below are from the client's content tuning data.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968
Eversong Woods is the 80 to 83 zone, with the smoothest flying of the four. Its Lightfused herbs release motes of holy energy and yield extra resources, according to the client text. Extra herbs per node means extra chances if the Lotus really is a base herb bonus.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355
Harandar has the densest mix of the flask herbs by player accounts, and its Primal herbs refill a Skyriding charge. More picks for the same flying.

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947
Zul'Aman's Wild herbs spawn hostile herb lashers when picked. That costs time per node, which matters when your goal is the number of picks.

Voidstorm: Levels 88-90, Unknown, Zone ID 16648
Voidstorm is the 88 to 90 zone, so only characters near the level cap pick there. We have not measured how crowded any zone is; check the node competition yourself before committing to a loop.

Risks to the Lotus price
- New herbalist waves. Every new herbalist is a new source of Lotus. Prices tend to fall as alts reach the zones after a patch.
- Flask demand falls between tiers. Late in a raid tier, fewer raiders buy flasks every week, and Lotus demand falls with them.
- Large single sellers. A commodity market has one price. Someone dumping a stockpile moves it for everyone. Hold through a dump rather than racing it down.
- Recipe changes. If a patch changed the Lotus count in a flask, the whole market would reprice in hours. Keep an eye on patch notes for Alchemy.
When to sell a Lotus
- Check where the live price sits in its 14-day range. Above the middle, sell. Below the middle, hold unless you need the gold.
- Sell before raid resets. Every raid flask needs one, and crafters stock up in the days before a reset.
- Hold through patch days when you can. A new raid tier or a flask change moves Lotus faster than any herb.
- Never vendor. 3 gold is about one percent of the market price.
- If you are a leatherworker or know one, price the Herbalist's Backpack against four Lotus before selling them raw.
Is Nocturnal Lotus worth chasing?
You cannot chase it directly, so the question is really which herb to pick while you wait for one. Pick the base herb with the best value for your Gold share, use Imbued Mulch if you have it, and treat every Lotus as a bonus worth more than most of your bag. For that choice, see our best herb guide and the Gold quality guide. The herbs that share flask bills with it are covered in Azeroot and Sanguithorn, and the whole family is in the Herbalism hub and the retail guides index.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
