Engineering for Gold in WoW Forever: Bombs, Scopes and Parts

WoW Forever Engineering from the beta client: 75 new recipes, the SAF-T and EZ-Thro lines, part chains from Copper Tube up, and which scopes and devices beat their bill.

Updated · By Christopher Lucas · WoW Forever beta, as of beta build 70291

The short answer

Engineering in WoW Forever makes money from finished devices, not from parts or bombs. Our extract of the beta client lists 291 Engineering abilities, 249 recipes that make an item, and 75 of those are new. Most of the new ones belong to two product lines with their own item text: SAF-T, the gnomish "safe" brand, and EZ-Thro, the goblin "easy to throw" brand. On the latest player scans Deadly Scope sold for 5 gold62 silver and Hoof-Shaped Foot Pedal for 3 gold95 silver, both far above their bills, while most bombs and parts sold for less than their metal. There is also a new product only engineers make that another profession needs: Sandpaper, used in 25 Blacksmithing recipes, which sold for 15 silver against a bill of a few silver.

The two new product lines

The client gives the new Engineering items short, joking descriptions, and they sort themselves into two brands. SAF-T items read like gnomish safety gear: "SAF-T Brand bombs almost never blow up in your hands (or your paws!)" is the text on the SAF-T Copper Bomb. EZ-Thro items read like goblin shortcuts: "Who needs safety when it's this easy to throw?" is the EZ-Thro Grenade. Both lines run from the copper levels to the endgame.

At the top end the two lines meet. The client has an "EZ and SAF Field Transporter: Mt. Hyjal" with the item text "Not only combining Goblin and Gnome tech, but also combining plans from the EZ-Thro and SAF-T corporations. Who knows if this will even work?", next to a Dimensional Transporter to Mt. Hyjal. Mount Hyjal is one of the three new zones Blizzard announced for Forever.

The part chain, priced

Every engineer climbs the same ladder of parts. Here is each part with its recipe, how many Engineering recipes use it, and what it cost to make against what it sold for on 2026-10-08:

PartClient skill bandReagentsUsed by (item-making recipes)BillSold at
Handful of Copper Bolts45 to 601 Copper Bar1270 copper60 copper
Copper Tube80 to 1102 Copper Bar, 1 Weak Flux42 silver40 copper1 silver20 copper
Copper Modulator95 to 1252 Copper Bolts, 1 Copper Bar, 2 Linen Cloth62 silver40 copper1 silver44 copper

Gold Power Core150 to 190one Gold Bar178 silver60 copper3 silver49 copper
Iron Strut160 to 1802 Iron Bar817 silver20 copper19 silver69 copper
Gyrochronatom170 to 2101 Iron Bar, one Gold Power Core1512 silver9 copper8 silver

The "used by" column counts recipes that create an item; a few more non-item abilities in the book also consume Bronze Tubes, Power Cores and Gyrochronatoms, so the true pull on those parts is slightly higher. The copper parts all sold for less than their bars, which is normal: they are skill-ups that other engineers make for themselves. The first part that paid was Bronze Tube, used in twelve recipes, and the Bronze Framework and Iron Strut also beat their bills. The lesson is the same as in Classic: buy cheap parts from the Auction House when they list below their metal, and make the rest.

Bombs: fun, not profit

Bombs were the worst value in the book on the beta. Rough Copper Bomb cost 1 silver93 copper to make and sold for 60 copper; Large Copper Bomb cost 10 silver95 copper and sold for 3 silver48 copper; Small Bronze Bomb and Big Bronze Bomb both sold under their bills. The new SAF-T and EZ-Thro bombs look worse once you price the new sub-parts.

The SAF-T Copper Bomb is the clearest case. It takes a Copper Bar, a Handful of Copper Bolts, two Rough Blasting Powder, a Linen Cloak and two SAF-T Tabs. Each SAF-T Tab takes a Linen Cloak and one Cerulean Dye. On 2026-10-08 two Cerulean Dye alone cost 2 gold77 silver, and SAF-T Copper Bomb sold for 10 silver. That bomb lost money by a factor of more than twenty on dye alone.

The EZ-Thro Copper Bomb XL is the cheaper path. It takes three Copper Bars, four Coarse Blasting Powder, a Silver Contact and an EZ-Thro Wrap, which is one Wool Cloth and one Sulfuric Acid. Make the wrap yourself and the bomb's bill was about 16 silver73 copper; buy the wrap at its single beta listing and it was 60 silver95 copper. Neither bomb had a sale price on the beta. If you want to throw bombs, make EZ-Thro ones; if you want gold, do not make bombs at all.

What sold above its bill on the beta

80 Engineering recipes had a full bill and a product price; 55 were listed on both houses and 29 of those sold above their bill. The winners were scopes and devices:

RecipeClient skill bandBillSold atListed
Deadly Scope230 to 2505 gold45 silver9 gold90 silver25
Hoof-Shaped Foot Pedal (new)150 to 1601 gold24 silver3 gold99 silver9

Accurate Scope200 to 22041 silver87 copper1 gold30 silver88
Advanced Target Dummy185 to 22571 silver25 copper1 gold50 silver21

Accurate Scope is the one with real depth: 88 listed across both houses and a sale price about three times its bill, from one Bronze Tube, one Jade and one Citrine. The Deadly Scope has the biggest gap but needs two Aquamarine. The new Hoof-Shaped Foot Pedal is the best new recipe we could price: three Iron Struts, two Bronze Frameworks, a Gyrochronatom, a Gold Power Core and four Heavy Leather, selling for about three times its bill.

Engineering also had the largest total gap of any profession on the beta. Summing every recipe with a full bill, products sold for 235 gold74 silver against bills of 74 gold41 silver. That total is lifted by a few expensive devices, so read it as "the best items pay very well", not "every craft pays".

Sandpaper: the engineer's export

Sandpaper is a new Engineering recipe at skill 130 to 155: two Bauxite and one Bolt of Linen Cloth. Its item text is just "Crafted by engineers". Blacksmithing uses it in 25 recipes (130 units if each is made once), in the Justicar's, Officer's, Prefect's, Sentinel's and Warder's sets. Two more recipes take it outside the forge: the SAF-T Bell for engineers themselves, and the Enchanting camp object Totem of Ancestral Protection. On the beta its bill was 13 silver63 copper and it sold for 45 silver on both houses. Like the alchemists' dyes, it is a part that only one profession can make and another must buy, which is the steadiest kind of demand there is.

Camp objects: Reagent Bot, Repair Bot, Workbench

Repair Bot140 to 1452 Whirring Bronze Gizmo, Bronze Tube, Heavy Leatherbuy reagents and repair gear, replaces a Reagent Bot

A portable repair vendor in your own camp is the most useful camp object in the client for anyone who farms or runs dungeons. On the beta the Repair Bot was listed at 1 gold90 silver against a 31 silver26 copper bill, on one house only. Expect that to be a popular launch sale. The Workbench needs an Essence of Anarchy, "an unstable mote of chaos, just what's needed for an Anarchist's Workbench" in the item text; we do not know its source yet.

How to level Engineering for gold

  1. 1 to 60: Rough Blasting Powder and Handful of Copper Bolts, then a Reagent Bot for your camp.
  2. 60 to 125: Copper Tubes, Modulators and Arclight Spanner. Buy tubes if they list below their bars.
  3. 105 to 160: Bronze Tubes (they sold above their bill), Standard Scopes for skill, and Sandpaper from 130 for blacksmiths.
  4. 140 to 145: one Repair Bot for yourself, then more for sale if the market holds.
  5. 150 to 220: Hoof-Shaped Foot Pedals, Discombobulator Rays, Advanced Target Dummies and Accurate Scopes for sale.
  6. Past the cap: Mithril parts, Deadly Scopes, then the SAF-T and EZ-Thro endgame devices.

Risks to plan around

  • Thin device markets. Most of the profitable devices had between seven and twenty-five units listed. One engineer posting a stack can halve a price overnight.
  • Gem prices. The best scopes are mostly gems by cost. Deadly Scope takes two Aquamarine; if that gem stays expensive the scope's margin is the gem's price, not your work.
  • Dye in the SAF-T line. Any SAF-T recipe built on SAF-T Tabs carries Cerulean Dye in its bill. Price that in before you plan a SAF-T levelling path.
  • Unknown camp rules. A Basic Campfire holds up to three crafted objects, one per player, per Blizzard's launch notes. If players prefer a Tent or a Fish Bowl in those slots, Repair Bot demand will be smaller than it looks today.
  • Specialisations. We have not confirmed whether Forever keeps the Classic Gnomish and Goblin specialisations or folds them into the SAF-T and EZ-Thro lines. Some Classic items, like Goblin Rocket Fuel, still carry "Used by Goblin Engineers" in their client text.

What to watch on the Auction House

  1. Jade and Citrine, the Accurate Scope gems.
  2. Bauxite and Bolt of Linen Cloth for Sandpaper, against Blacksmith demand.
  3. Repair Bot listings in launch week.
  4. Cerulean Dye, if you plan to make anything SAF-T.
  5. Bronze Bar, which every mid-level part uses.

How this guide was written

Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. WoW Forever is in beta: every fact here is labelled with the client build it was read from and can change before launch. Read the full method or the about page.
