Alchemy for Gold in WoW Forever: Potions, Flasks and Transmutes
Every Alchemy recipe in the WoW Forever beta client priced from player scans: the new dyes other crafters need, the elixir lines, flask Lotus costs and transmute cooldowns.
The short answer
Alchemy in WoW Forever is a different job from the Alchemy you remember. The beta client gives it 70 brand new recipes, takes the Healing Potion line away and hands it to First Aid, and turns alchemists into the suppliers of three new dyes and an acid that Tailoring, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing and Enchanting all need. On the latest player scans
Cerulean Dye sold for 1 gold63 silver,
Magenta Dye for 1 gold25 silver and
Sulfuric Acid for 4 silver90 copper. The dye is the story: it shows up in 131 recipes across four professions, more than any potion. If you want gold from Alchemy at launch, plan around the dyes and the new elixir lines first, and treat flasks and transmutes as late-game extras that the beta level cap does not reach yet.
Lowest buyout from player scans of the WoW Forever beta Auction House, as of beta build 70291. Beta prices are a testing economy and will not carry over to launch. Last verified
What the client actually lists
Our extract of the beta profession tables holds 205 Alchemy abilities. Strip out the trainer ranks and the rows that make nothing, and 182 of them are recipes that create an item. 70 of those 182 are new in Forever, and every one of the 70 creates an item that no older Alchemy recipe makes. That matters: these are not renamed copies of Classic recipes, they are new products with new item ids that the market has never priced.
| Group | Recipes in the client | New in Forever | What the new ones are |
|---|---|---|---|
| Potions | 70 | 28 | Mender's Potion line (Minor to Major), Spellblasting and Frenzy lines, Discolored Healing line, Smog potions |
| Elixirs | 60 | 28 | Mageblood, Spirit, Cleric's, Intellect and Fortitude lines, Elixir of the Whale, Owl, Grizzly, Sages, Cunning, Ferocity |
| Flasks | 9 | 4 | Flasks of Natural Accuracy, Aggression, Precision and Swiftness |
| Dyes and reagents | 4 | 4 | Cerulean Dye, Magenta Dye, Viridian Dye, Sulfuric Acid |
| Transmutes | 13 | 1 | Transmute: Legionite |
| Oils and other | 26 | 5 | Mana Well, Fermenter, Alchemy Laboratory, Distilled Firewater, Draught of Predatory Senses |
The Artisan rank in the client still reads "up to a maximum potential skill of 300", so the ceiling is where Classic players expect it. What changed is how much there is to make on the way up.
Healing potions moved to First Aid
This is the single biggest change for anyone who used to sell potions. In the beta client, Minor, Lesser, plain, Greater, Superior and Major Healing Potion are all First Aid recipes, all flagged as new, and they are gone from the Alchemy book. They also use new reagents: the client's Healing Potion takes a Leaded Vial, Hot Spices and Bruiseweed instead of the old herb pair. Every character with First Aid can now make the potion that used to be the alchemist's bread and butter.
What Alchemy got instead is the Mender's Potion line, six new recipes from Minor (Mageroyal, Bruiseweed and a vial, skill 35 to 40 in the client) to Major (Dreamfoil, Sungrass and an Imbued Vial, skill 285 to 290). We cannot see in the extract what a Mender's Potion restores compared with a Healing Potion, so do not assume it replaces it one for one. Alchemy also keeps a Discolored Healing Potion line: six recipes from Minor to Major, four of them flagged new, and every one takes a Murloc Eye, which is an odd reagent to build a market around. Read more about the First Aid side in First Aid in WoW Forever.
The dye trade: the analysis nobody else prints
Here is the number this page exists for. Count every recipe in the client that takes an alchemy-made dye or acid, and add up the units:
| Alchemy product | Recipes that use it | Units if each recipe is made once | Biggest buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cerulean Dye | 131 | 436 | Tailoring: 108 recipes, 378 units |
| Magenta Dye | 65 | 301 | Tailoring: 52 recipes, 260 units |
| Sulfuric Acid | 45 | 157 | Blacksmithing: 30 recipes, 110 units |
| Viridian Dye | 15 | 107 | Tailoring: 9 recipes, 79 units |
The four rows add up to 256 reagent slots, but some recipes take two or three of these at once. Counted once each, that is 185 distinct recipes across Tailoring, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, Enchanting and Engineering that cannot be crafted without something only an alchemist makes. Compare it with the potion market: the most-used potion reagent in the book is just a vial. In Forever, Alchemy is a parts supplier.
The arithmetic for Cerulean Dye shows why it is worth planning around. Each dye takes two
Frilled Lichen and an Empty Vial. 436 dyes is 872 lichen. On 2026-10-08 our tables read lichen at 65 silver each, so a single tailor who wanted to craft every Cerulean recipe once would need 566 gold80 silver worth of lichen, before vials. Tailors level by crafting the same cheap recipes many times, so real demand per tailor is higher, not lower.
The margin on the beta was thin. Two lichen plus a vial cost 1 gold30 silver and the dye sold at 1 gold38 silver, a gap of 8 silver84 copper before the Auction House cut (5% in Classic; we have not confirmed the Forever rate). Magenta Dye was similar: a bill of 80 silver69 copper against a sale of 90 silver98 copper. Thin today, but this is a beta market with very few tailors at the level cap. When launch-week tailors hit the Filigreed gowns and the new Pristine, Shadow and Silky sets, which take two to eight Cerulean Dye each, the dye should pull away from its herb cost.
What sold above its reagent bill on the beta
We priced every Alchemy recipe where the product and every reagent had a recent scan. 71 recipes cleared that bar; 63 of them had the product listed on both scanned houses, and 37 of those 63 sold above their reagent bill. The best gaps on 2026-10-08:
| Recipe | Client skill band | Reagent bill | Product sold at | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shadow Oil (makes 2) | 190 to 230 | 38 silver1 copper | 87 silver99 copper each | 1 gold37 silver per craft |
| Spellblasting Potion (new) | 140 to 145 | 7 silver15 copper | 24 silver50 copper | 17 silver35 copper |
| Frenzy Potion (new) | 145 to 150 | 23 silver25 copper | 40 silver | 16 silver75 copper |
| Elixir of Lesser Spirit (new) | 70 to 75 | 10 silver77 copper | 24 silver98 copper | 14 silver21 copper |
| Lesser Mageblood Elixir (new) | 80 to 85 | 15 silver | 27 silver98 copper | 12 silver98 copper |
| Fermenter (new camp object) | 140 to 145 | 7 silver64 copper | 20 silver | 12 silver36 copper |
| Elixir of Lesser Fortitude | 195 to 235 | 30 silver69 copper | 42 silver85 copper | 12 silver16 copper |
Five of the top seven are new recipes. That is the pattern to expect at launch: the old Classic potions already have a known price, and the new elixir lines do not. Shadow Oil stands out because it makes two per craft and uses
Fadeleaf and
Grave Moss, two herbs that were cheap on the beta. Frost Oil, also two per craft, showed a similar gap from four Khadgar's Whisker and two Wintersbite.
The losers are just as useful to know. Elixir of Minor Defense, Minor Rejuvenation Potion, Elixir of Wisdom and Catseye Draught all sold for less than their herbs on the beta. Do not level through those expecting to cover your costs on the Auction House.
How to level Alchemy without bleeding gold
- Train Apprentice Alchemy and buy Empty Vials from the trade supply vendor, not the Auction House. In Classic the vendor charged a few copper for a vial; on the beta Auction House an Empty Vial sold for 9 copper, so never buy them there.
- From 10 to 50, make the new Minor elixirs that sold:
Minor Mageblood Elixir (two Mageroyal) and Elixir of Minor Spirit. Both cleared their bill on the beta, unlike most old Minor potions. - At 50, learn Cerulean Dye and Sulfuric Acid and keep making them as long as they stay orange or yellow. Every dye you make has a buyer in four professions.
- From 70 to 150, work through the new Spirit, Mageblood and Spellblasting lines. Watch
Kingsblood: Kingsblood is in a lot of the new mid-level recipes, which is why it had the deepest listing of any mid herb on the beta. - At 140, make one Fermenter for your own camp before you think about selling them. It provides everything a Mana Well does and allows "the creation of certain reagents".
- From 150 up, follow the herbs that are cheap that week. The new Smog, Mender's and Frenzy lines each have several herb pairs to choose from.
Flasks and the Black Lotus problem
The classic five flasks are all still in the client: Titans, Distilled Wisdom, Supreme Power, Chromatic Resistance and Petrification. Each takes one
Black Lotus, plus thirty of a main herb and ten of a second. Black Lotus appears in only nine recipes in the whole client: seven Alchemy (the five flasks, Alchemists' Stone and Gurubashi Mojo Madness), one Enchanting and one Tailoring. The beta had exactly one Black Lotus listed, at …, which tells you nothing except that someone found one.
Forever adds four new flasks that do not use Black Lotus at all. Flasks of Natural Accuracy, Aggression, Precision and Swiftness each take one
Death Lotus and a stack of new herbs (Demonsage or Marefoil) with Golden Sansam, Mountain Silversage or Dreamfoil, plus an Imbued Vial. Death Lotus is used in nine recipes across Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting and Engineering. Nobody on the beta has listed Death Lotus, Demonsage or Marefoil yet, which fits a level cap of 20 to 30. These are launch-day questions, not beta ones.

Transmutes and their cooldowns
Thirteen transmutes are in the client, and only one is new: Transmute: Legionite, which turns a Heavy Thorium Bar and a Fel Crystal into
Legionite Bar. Legionite Bar's own item text says "Transmuted by alchemists", and 22 recipes use it: 17 in Blacksmithing and 5 in Engineering. That puts alchemists in the supply chain for the top end of plate armour and the new engineering gear.
We read the cooldowns from the client's spell tables (build 70291):
| Transmute | Cooldown in the client | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Arcanite | 47 hours | same category as the elemental transmutes |
| Legionite (new) | 47 hours | same category |
| Air to Fire, Earth to Water, Life to Earth and the other elementals | 23 hours | same category |
| Elemental Fire (one Heart of Fire to three) | 10 minutes | same category |
| Iron to Gold, Mithril to Truesilver | 1 hour | separate recovery |
All of the elemental, Arcanite and Legionite transmutes share one cooldown category in the client, so you cannot chain them. Iron to Gold and Mithril to Truesilver are another matter: on the beta, Iron to Gold broke exactly even (a
Iron Bar and a Gold Bar both sold at 8 silver60 copper), while Mithril to Truesilver turned a 12 silver98 copper bar into one that sold for 19 silver40 copper. With a one hour recovery, that is the only transmute you can work regularly at the beta cap.
The camp objects: Mana Well, Fermenter, Laboratory
Forever gives each profession three camp objects for the new Camping system. Blizzard's launch notes say a Basic Campfire holds up to three crafted objects, one per player, on a one-hour cooldown, and the client agrees: the Basic Campfire spell allows "up to 3 additional camp features".
| Object | Client skill band | Reagents | What the client says it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 to 25 | Peacebloom, Empty Vial | mana regeneration for players sitting nearby | |
| 140 to 145 | Leaded Vial, Kingsblood, Swiftthistle | allows the creation of certain reagents, plus Mana Well benefits | |
| 300 | Lich's Index Finger, Crystal Vial, two Dreamfoil | needed for recipes that require it, plus Mana Well benefits |
The Laboratory needs a
Lich's Index Finger, whose item text reads "Needed for delicate work in an Alchemist's Laboratory". We have not found what drops it. At the moment the Mana Well sold for slightly less than its reagents, and the Fermenter sold for more than double its bill. Expect the Laboratory to be a high-end craft once the reagent's source is known.

What to watch on the Auction House at launch
- Cerulean and Magenta Dye against Frilled Lichen and Rosecap. If the dye stays within a few silver of two herbs, sell herbs. If it pulls away, craft.
- Kingsblood, Liferoot and Khadgar's Whisker. The new elixir lines lean on them harder than Classic did.
- The new elixirs' first prices. Nobody has a reference price for a Mender's Potion or an Elixir of the Whale. The first sellers set it.
- Healing Potions made by First Aid. Every character can now make them, so expect that market to be crowded.
- Fel Crystal and Heavy Thorium Bar, the Legionite inputs, once the level cap opens.

Undercity and Orgrimmar are the two Horde capitals whose world maps we pinned from the beta client. Where you train matters less than where you sell: dye buyers are tailors, and tailors cluster wherever the cloth and the bank are, so list on the house your faction's crafters actually use.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. WoW Forever is in beta: every fact here is labelled with the client build it was read from and can change before launch. Read the full method or the about page.
