Tailoring for Gold in WoW Forever: Bags, Robes and Margins
WoW Forever Tailoring from the beta client: 164 new recipes, the new Reagent Bags, cloth and dye demand per tier, the Mooncloth cooldown and what beat its bill on beta scans.
The short answer
Tailoring in WoW Forever is still the cloth-to-bags profession, but the beta client adds a lot on top: 479 Tailoring abilities, 405 recipes that make an item, and 164 of those are new. 110 of the new ones are rare quality robes, gowns, boots, gloves and circlets, and seven are a new kind of bag called a Reagent Bag. For gold, bags are still the steady seller and the new gear families are the gamble. On the latest player scans
Mageweave Reagent Bag sold for 9 gold99 silver and
Enchanted Mageweave Pouch for 6 gold50 silver, both well above their materials. The catch is a cost most tailors will not see coming: 106 of the new recipes need
Cerulean Dye, which only alchemists make, and it sold for 1 gold63 silver each.
Lowest buyout from player scans of the WoW Forever beta Auction House, as of beta build 70291. Beta prices are a testing economy and will not carry over to launch. Last verified
What is new in the Forever Tailoring book
We grouped the 164 new recipes by name:
| Family | New recipes | Client skill band | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Azure and Cloudy Stormsewn | 16 | 55 to 70, then 185 | the cloth version of the Skyborne-themed sets |
| Six-flavour sets (Flame, Pearly, Pristine, Shadow, Shining, Silky) | 36 | 85 to 175 | boots, gloves, sash, circlet, gown, leggings |
| Filigreed gowns, leggings and circlets | 18 | 80 to 130 | the same six flavours, cheaper |
| Slippers, Handwraps, Cord (Black, Fiery, Frothing, Gilded, Golden, Radiant) | 24 | 145 to 230 | Mageweave pieces with a gem or element |
| Earthen Silk | 12 | 160 to 215 | Silk pieces using Elemental Earth |
| Reagent Bags | 7 | 30 to 345 | Linen to Bottomless |
| Camp objects and misc | 51 | all levels | Faction Banner, Spinning Wheel, Loom, Novice sashes and more |
The six-flavour design is the same idea Blacksmithing uses: one base recipe, six versions, and the version is decided by one extra reagent. Flame takes Fire Oil, Pearly takes Small Lustrous Pearl, Pristine takes Pristine Leather, Shadow takes Shadowgem, Shining takes Pyrite and Silky takes Spider's Silk. The rest of the bill is identical. A Pristine Gown and a Shining Gown both need twelve Bolts of Silk, two Silken Thread, six Cerulean Dye, two Silver Bars and two Greater Astral Essence; only the flavour reagent (six Pristine Leather or six Pyrite) moves the price.
Cloth demand per tier: the table to plan around
Outside the bolt recipes, the only raw cloth any Tailoring recipe in the client takes is Felcloth (17 recipes, Mooncloth among them). Everything else is woven from bolts. So the real cloth demand is the bolt count times the cloth per bolt. Here is the total across the whole book, with the new recipes split out:
| Bolt | Cloth per bolt | Bolts, all recipes | Bolts, new recipes | Raw cloth for new recipes | Bolt price (beta) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bolt of Linen Cloth | 2 Linen | 148 | 76 | 152 Linen | 45 copper |
| Bolt of Woolen Cloth | 3 Wool | 239 | 137 | 411 Wool | 2 silver65 copper |
| Bolt of Silk Cloth | 4 Silk | 587 | 419 | 1,676 Silk | 14 silver95 copper |
| Bolt of Mageweave | 5 Mageweave | 666 | 496 | 2,480 Mageweave | 69 silver98 copper |
| Bolt of Runecloth | 5 Runecloth | 836 | 323 | 1,615 Runecloth | 20 silver |
Silk and Mageweave are where Forever adds the most. The new recipes alone want 419 Bolts of Silk, more than two thirds of the silk total for the whole book. That is the six-flavour sets: gloves take six bolts, sashes and boots eight, circlets ten, gowns twelve and leggings fourteen. In Classic, silk was the cheap middle cloth that tailors levelled through quickly. In Forever it is the busiest cloth in the new content.
The bolt margin on the beta was positive at every tier we could price. Two
Linen Cloth at 25 copper each made a bolt that sold for 69 copper; four
Silk Cloth at 3 silver39 copper made one that sold for 14 silver85 copper. Mageweave was the exception: five
Mageweave Cloth at 25 silver cost 1 gold25 silver against a bolt price of 75 silver50 copper, so on that day you were better off buying bolts than weaving them. Check both numbers every time.
The dye bill nobody budgets for
Tailors have always bought thread. In Forever they also buy dye, and a lot of it. Across the new recipes, 106 take Cerulean Dye (372 units if each is made once) and 50 take
Magenta Dye (254 units). Both are alchemy products. The Cerulean count matters most because it is in almost every six-flavour recipe: boots take two, gloves and sashes three, circlets four, gowns six and leggings eight.
The arithmetic for one rare gown: twelve Bolts of Silk at 14 silver85 copper, six Cerulean Dye at 1 gold38 silver, two Silver Bars, two Greater Astral Essence, two Silken Thread and the flavour reagent. At 2026-10-08 prices the dye alone was 8 gold33 silver, more than half of a Shining Gown's 11 gold10 silver bill. The silk was 1 gold78 silver. If you level through the gowns and leggings, your dye supplier is your biggest cost.
Bags: still the steady money
Bags sell to every character, and Forever adds a new line: the Reagent Bag, seven recipes from Linen to Bottomless. We cannot see in the extract what a Reagent Bag holds or how it differs from a normal bag, so check the tooltip in game before you stock up. Here is every bag recipe that the beta could price:
| Bag | Client skill band | Bill on 2026-10-08 | Sold at | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Linen Bag | 30 to 65 | 2 silver67 copper | 3 silver | 33 copper |
| Linen Reagent Bag (new) | 30 to 65 | 5 silver34 copper | 8 silver | 2 silver66 copper |
| Woolen Reagent Bag (new) | 75 to 110 | 1 gold50 silver | 1 gold50 silver | about even |
| Silk Reagent Bag (new) | 135 to 140 | 4 gold81 silver | 12 gold | 7 gold18 silver (one house) |
| Mageweave Bag | 205 to 235 | 3 gold15 silver | 3 gold25 silver | 9 silver10 copper |
| Mageweave Reagent Bag (new) | 205 to 215 | 5 gold79 silver | 8 gold | 2 gold20 silver |
| Enchanted Mageweave Pouch | 205 to 235 | 4 gold17 silver | 6 gold38 silver | 2 gold20 silver |
Two things jump out. The new Reagent Bags beat the old bags at every tier where both were priced, and every Reagent Bag above Linen takes dye: Woolen and Silk need Cerulean, Mageweave needs Magenta and Cerulean, Runecloth needs Viridian. The Woolen Reagent Bag is a good example of a dye-driven bill: three bolts of wool cost almost nothing, and one Cerulean Dye was almost the whole price. Red, Green and plain Woolen Bags all sold for less than their materials on the beta. Skip them.
Silk Reagent Bag at … was the standout, but on one house only.
Mageweave Reagent Bag is the one with depth: 24 listed across both houses and a gap of 2 gold20 silver.
Mooncloth and the cooldown
Mooncloth is still in the client. The recipe turns two Felcloth into one Mooncloth, at skill 270 to 300, and the spell has a recovery time of 95 hours in the client (342,000,000 milliseconds, just under four days). 30 Tailoring recipes use Mooncloth, 7 of them new, including the Mooncloth Reagent Bag and the Bottomless Reagent Bag, which takes twelve. Neither Felcloth nor Mooncloth had a listing on the beta, which fits a level cap of 20 to 30.
The cooldown is the gold angle. A tailor can only make one Mooncloth every 95 hours, so the supply per tailor is fixed. If the new bags pull Mooncloth demand up at endgame, every tailor's cooldown becomes a small, steady income.

Eastern Plaguelands: Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 139
Camp objects: Banner, Spinning Wheel, Loom
| Object | Client skill band | Reagents | What the client says |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 to 25 | 1 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 1 Coarse Thread | Spirit for faction members sitting nearby | |
| 140 to 145 | 2 Simple Wood, 5 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 3 Fine Thread | allows the creation of certain reagents, plus Banner benefits | |
| 300 | Bottled Screams, 4 Bolt of Runecloth, 4 Simple Wood | needed for recipes that require it, plus Banner benefits |
The Loom needs
Bottled Screams, whose item text reads "The bottled screams of a chorus of banshees, sufficient to power the Baroness's mysterious Loom". The Baroness reference points at Stratholme in Classic terms, but we have not confirmed a drop source. The Faction Banners sold for less than their bill on the beta; make them for your own camp.
How to level Tailoring without losing gold
- 1 to 50: Bolts of Linen, then Linen Bags and Linen Reagent Bags. Both bags at least broke even on the beta.
- 55 to 70: the twelve copper-tier Stormsewn pieces. Each takes three to five Bolts of Linen and thread; at beta prices that was under 4 silver a piece.
- 75 to 135: Woolen bolts, then the Filigreed pieces and the first six-flavour boots. Buy Cerulean Dye in bulk before you start; it is the expensive part.
- 135 to 175: Silk Reagent Bags for sale, and the six-flavour gloves, sashes and gowns. Pick the flavour whose reagent is cheapest on your server.
- 145 to 235: Mageweave Reagent Bags and Enchanted Mageweave Pouches for sale. The Slippers, Handwraps and Cord families need a gem or element each; Black Pearl and Large Brilliant Shard make some of them very expensive, so stay on the Gilded and Frothing versions.
- Past the beta cap: Runecloth bags, Mooncloth, the Loom.

What to watch on the Auction House
- Cerulean Dye. It is more than half of the bill on every six-flavour gown and legging.
- Silk Cloth. The new recipes want 1,676 Silk for one craft each. Launch week should push it.
- Reagent Bag prices against plain bags. If Reagent Bags hold their beta premium, they are the best steady seller in the book.
- Mageweave cloth against Bolt of Mageweave. On the beta the bolt was cheaper than its cloth.
- Felcloth at endgame, for Mooncloth.

Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so.
