Tailoring for Gold in Midnight: Bolts, Linings and Gear
The Midnight bolt chain priced step by step, from Bright Linen to Sunfire Silk and Arcanoweave, plus linings, spellthreads and the vendor threads, against live prices.

The short answer
Midnight Tailoring has a long chain: Bright Linen becomes a bolt, two bolts become an imbued bolt, and imbued bolts plus rare cloth become Sunfire Silk and Arcanoweave bolts, which feed linings, spellthreads and gear. On our 2026-10-08 snapshot most steps of that chain lost value. Five
Sunfire Silk sold raw for more than the
Sunfire Silk Bolt you can make from them. The steps that paid were the higher rank linings and the
Sunfire Silk Spellthread, which sold for 2,100 gold live. So sell rare cloth raw unless you are turning it all the way into a lining or spellthread that lands on a good rank.
The cloth and the chain
Our datamine of client build 12.1.0.69933 lists three Midnight cloths at two grades each and a fixed chain of recipes that turns them into tailoring materials. Here are the cloths:
| Cloth | Rarity | Lower grade (now) | Higher grade (now) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bright Linen | uncommon | 1 gold39 silver | 1 gold36 silver |
| Arcanoweave | rare | 24 gold87 silver | 18 gold70 silver |
| Sunfire Silk | rare | 54 gold60 silver | 58 gold42 silver |
And here is the chain, step by step, with the reagents from our recipe table:
| Step | Recipe | Reagents |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bright Linen Bolt | 1 Bright Linen, 4 Silverleaf Thread |
| 2 | Imbued Bright Linen Bolt | 2 Bright Linen Bolt, 4 Silverleaf Thread |
| 3a | Sunfire Silk Bolt | 5 Sunfire Silk, 6 Imbued Bright Linen Bolt, 4 Mote of Light |
| 3b | Arcanoweave Bolt | 5 Arcanoweave, 6 Imbued Bright Linen Bolt, 4 Mote of Wild Magic |
| 4a | Sunfire Silk Lining | 2 Sunfire Silk Bolt, 6 Sunfire Silk, 1 Embroidery Floss |
| 4b | Arcanoweave Lining | 2 Arcanoweave Bolt, 6 Arcanoweave, 1 Embroidery Floss |
| 5a | Sunfire Silk Spellthread | 8 Sunfire Silk Bolt, 12 Sunfire Silk, 6 Radiant Shard, 5 Embroidery Floss, 6 Mote of Primal Energy, 4 Petrified Root |
| 5b | Arcanoweave Spellthread | 8 Arcanoweave Bolt, 12 Arcanoweave, 6 Radiant Shard, 5 Embroidery Floss, 6 Mote of Pure Void, 4 Petrified Root |
Every step from 3 onward eats rare cloth twice: once inside the bolts and again as a raw reagent. That is why rare cloth prices drive the whole profession.
The vendor threads
Two cheap reagents appear all over Tailoring.
Silverleaf Thread goes into the first two bolt steps, four at a time, and many gear recipes.
Embroidery Floss goes into every lining and spellthread and into the epic Arcanoweave, Sunfire Silk and Martyr's gear; the Thalassian Competitor's and Courtly cloth pieces skip it. Our tables listed Silverleaf Thread at 9 silver and Embroidery Floss at 17 silver on the Auction House on our snapshot, and both sell to a vendor for 1 silver40 copper. They are so cheap that they never decide a margin. Keep a stack of each so you never have to stop crafting to fetch them.
Step by step: where the value goes
This is the core of the page. For each step we priced the bill on 2026-10-08 and set it against the sale price of what it makes. The break-even yield is the bill divided by the sale price: the number of items one craft must produce to cover its reagents.
| Step | Bill (2026-10-08) | Sale, lower rank (2026-10-08) | Sale, higher rank (2026-10-08) | Break-even, lower | Break-even, higher |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bright Linen Bolt | 1 gold61 silver | 1 gold59 silver | 1 gold75 silver | 1.01 | 0.92 |
| Imbued Bright Linen Bolt | 3 gold54 silver | 2 gold77 silver | 5 gold80 silver | 1.28 | 0.61 |
| Arcanoweave Bolt | 118 gold42 silver | 56 gold98 silver | 56 gold69 silver | 2.08 | 2.09 |
| Sunfire Silk Bolt | 316 gold3 silver | 131 gold30 silver | 128 gold49 silver | 2.41 | 2.46 |
| Arcanoweave Lining | 233 gold41 silver | 85 gold | 190 gold99 silver | 2.75 | 1.22 |
| Sunfire Silk Lining | 619 gold53 silver | 300 gold | 499 gold99 silver | 2.07 | 1.24 |
| Arcanoweave Spellthread | 2,101 gold53 silver | 799 gold99 silver | 1,400 gold | 2.63 | 1.50 |
| Sunfire Silk Spellthread | 3,173 gold93 silver | 2,128 gold43 silver | 2,240 gold78 silver | 1.49 | 1.42 |
Read the table from the top and a clear story appears. The two linen steps are roughly break even: they turn cheap linen into cheap bolts at about cost. Then the rare cloth bolts lose more than half their value. Neither bolt had a meaningful gap between ranks on our snapshot, so Concentration cannot rescue them. The linings and spellthreads lose less, and at the higher rank the linings come close to paying on a single craft.
Our recipe table does not carry the number of items a craft produces, and multicraft can add extras, so a break-even yield a little above one can still be a profitable craft for a well specialized tailor. A break-even yield above two, as with the rare cloth bolts, is very hard to beat.
Raw cloth or bolt: the decision
The rare cloth bolts are the step most tailors get wrong. Look at what a bolt pays for each piece of rare cloth inside it, using our 2026-10-08 numbers:
| Bolt | Bolt price | Cloth inside | Value per cloth if you bolt | Raw cloth price | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunfire Silk Bolt | 131 gold30 silver | 5 Sunfire Silk | 26 gold26 silver | 59 gold46 silver | Sell the silk raw |
| Arcanoweave Bolt | 56 gold98 silver | 5 Arcanoweave | 11 gold40 silver | 23 gold19 silver | Sell the cloth raw |
And that is before counting the six imbued linen bolts and four motes each bolt also needs. A piece of Sunfire Silk was worth more than twice as much raw as it was inside a bolt. So unless you need the bolts for your own linings, spellthreads or gear, sell rare cloth as it drops. This is the single most useful number on this page, and it flips only if bolt prices climb or raw cloth prices fall. Recheck it against the live strip before every crafting session.
- Divide the live bolt price by five.
- Compare with the live raw cloth price.
- If the raw cloth is worth more, sell it raw. If the bolt share is worth more, bolt it.
Linings and spellthreads: where Tailoring pays
Linings are a gear crafting reagent and spellthreads are the leg enchant equivalent tailors sell to every caster. Both are where Tailoring recovers value.
Sunfire Silk Lining sold for 499 gold99 silver at the higher rank against a bill of 619 gold53 silver, a break-even of 1.24 linings per craft.
Arcanoweave Lining sold for 190 gold99 silver against 233 gold41 silver, a break-even of 1.22. Both had a big gap between ranks: the higher rank lining was worth 1.7 to 2.2 times the lower rank. That makes linings the best Concentration target in Tailoring. A tailor who lands the higher rank and gets an occasional multicraft proc will clear a margin.
Spellthreads are the expensive end. The Sunfire Silk Spellthread needs four
Petrified Root, and at 350 gold54 silver each on our snapshot those roots cost 1,402 gold16 silver, 44 percent of the bill. The thread sold for 2,240 gold78 silver at the higher rank, a break-even of 1.42 per craft, and the two ranks traded within about 112 gold of each other. The Arcanoweave Spellthread had the biggest rank gap in the chain: 799 gold99 silver at the lower rank against 1,400 gold at the higher. Craft spellthreads only when you can hit the higher rank, and watch the root price: every 50 gold the root falls takes 200 gold off a spellthread bill.
Crafted gear
Our recipe table lists Arcanoweave and Sunfire Silk gear pieces, profession gear such as the Elegant Artisan's hats and coveralls, and cloth bags. Our tables held no Auction House price for any of them on our snapshot, so we cannot print a margin. The bills are large: the Arcanoweave Bracers came to 969 gold81 silver, the Arcanoweave Cord to 990 gold29 silver, the Arcanoweave Cloak to 1,138 gold29 silver and the Adherent's Silken Shroud to 1,351 gold53 silver, mostly because of the bolts and raw rare cloth inside them. Gear like this usually trades through crafting orders, where the customer brings the expensive reagents. See the crafting orders page for how to price that work.
Where tailors get their cloth
Cloth drops from humanoid enemies in every Midnight zone, according to player reports. We have not timed a cloth farm, so the zones below are suggestions, not yields.

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947
Zul'Aman is full of humanoid camps, which is the usual source of cloth.

Voidstorm: Levels 88-90, Unknown, Zone ID 16648
Voidstorm sits at the top of the level range, which is where rare cloth like Arcanoweave and Sunfire Silk is most likely to matter to you.

What to do first
- Sell Sunfire Silk and Arcanoweave raw unless you need bolts for your own higher tier crafts.
- Make linen bolts only to feed your own chain; they trade at about cost.
- Put Concentration into linings first, then spellthreads.
- Craft spellthreads only when Petrified Root is cheap and you can land the higher rank.
- Take gear work through crafting orders, where the customer pays for the rare cloth.
A tailor's week on our numbers
Put the tables together and a weekly routine follows. Through the week, sell every Sunfire Silk and Arcanoweave you do not need, in small batches, because raw cloth was worth more than bolted cloth on our snapshot. Keep a stock of Bright Linen and turn it into linen bolts only as fast as your own higher crafts need them. When you have Concentration, check the lining strips: if the higher rank Sunfire Silk Lining is near its 14-day high, buy or keep the silk and bolts for a few linings and lift them with Concentration. Save spellthreads for a week when Petrified Root is cheap. Fill gear orders whenever a customer brings the bolts and cloth, because those orders carry the largest bills in the profession.
Bright Linen: the cheap end
Bright Linen is the one Midnight cloth with almost no value on its own:
Bright Linen sold for about a gold on our snapshot. Its job is to become Imbued Bright Linen Bolts, six of which go into every rare cloth bolt, and two of which go into the Bright Linen Spellthread and several Engineering gear pieces. Because the linen steps run at about cost, there is no reason to buy linen bolts if you have linen; make them yourself and save the Auction House cut. The higher rank Imbued Bright Linen Bolt was worth about twice the lower rank, so a spare point of Concentration here is not wasted.
Mistakes tailors make in Midnight
- Bolting rare cloth by habit. A Sunfire Silk Bolt paid about 26 gold per silk inside it, against 59 gold raw.
- Spending Concentration on bolts. The two bolt ranks sold for about the same price.
- Crafting spellthreads with expensive roots. Four roots were 44 percent of the Sunfire Silk Spellthread bill.
- Crafting cloth gear on spec. None of it had an Auction House price on our snapshot.
Risks and what to watch
In past expansions, rare cloth supply rose when many players farmed humanoids, for example during a reputation push or a new zone opening, and its price fell with it. That is the moment bolts and linings become cheaper to make. Petrified Root is shared with Alchemy, Jewelcrafting, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking and Enchanting, so its price can move for reasons that have nothing to do with tailoring. Sellers report that spellthread demand peaks at season starts, when every caster wants their leg enchant; we have not measured that in our own tables yet. Linings follow gear crafting demand. Keep an eye on the 14-day range for each before you commit a big stack of silk.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
