Crafting Orders for Gold in Midnight: When Filling Orders Pays
Which Midnight crafts carry the most reagent value per order, the Artisan's Ledger and other finishing reagents priced live, and when an order beats crafting for the market.

The short answer
Crafting orders pay when the customer supplies the expensive reagents and you supply what they cannot: the recipe, your skill and your Concentration. In Midnight the crafts that carry the most value per order are the epic armor and weapons, whose reagent bills ran from about 1,100 gold to over 1,600 gold on 2026-10-08, and the spellthreads, whose bills topped 2,100 gold. None of that armor or weaponry had an Auction House price on our snapshot, so orders are how it changes hands; the spellthreads trade both ways. We do not print tip figures, because we have no data on what customers pay. What we can show is where your work adds the most value and which reagents matter. Among the finishing reagents,
Mentor's Helpful Handiwork sold for 101 gold55 silver live and
Artisan's Ledger for 19 gold80 silver.
Why orders exist in Midnight
Most Midnight gear recipes make items that cannot be sold on the Auction House, according to the crafting system as it has worked since Dragonflight: the item binds to whoever it is crafted for. Our tables back that up indirectly: none of the epic armor, weapons or gathering tools we checked had an Auction House price. So the only way for a player without the recipe to get one is to place an order and let a crafter make it for them.
That changes the economics. When you craft for the market, you pay for every reagent and take all the price risk. When you fill an order, the customer usually provides the reagents and pays you for the craft. Your margin is the fee, and your cost is the time, the Concentration and any reagents you add yourself.
The crafts with the most value per order
Here are the biggest reagent bills we found, by profession. The bill is what the customer would have to buy or gather before placing the order. A higher bill means a customer with more at stake and more reason to want a skilled crafter who lands the top rank.
| Craft | Profession | Reagent bill (2026-10-08) | Auction House price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunfire Silk Spellthread | Tailoring | 3,173 gold93 silver | yes, listed |
| Arcanoweave Spellthread | Tailoring | 2,101 gold53 silver | yes, listed |
| Silvermoon Agent's Coat | Leatherworking | 1,672 gold43 silver | none |
| Spellbreaker's Legguards | Blacksmithing | 1,531 gold16 silver | none |
| Knight-Commander's Palisade | Blacksmithing | 1,526 gold91 silver | none |
| Adherent's Silken Shroud | Tailoring | 1,351 gold53 silver | none |
| Blood Knight's Warblade | Blacksmithing | 1,274 gold93 silver | none |
| Arcanoweave Cloak | Tailoring | 1,138 gold29 silver | none |
| Sun-Blessed Pickaxe and other gathering tools | Blacksmithing | 446 gold90 silver | none |
The spellthreads are an exception: they trade on the Auction House as well, so a tailor can choose between selling them and filling orders. Everything else on the list is order only.
What the customer brings and what you bring
Every epic gear recipe on our table shares two expensive reagents that customers usually supply: a stack of alloys or leather from the crafter's own profession, and one
Tormented Tantalum, which sold for 85 gold5 silver live. The spellthreads and the flawless gem cuts also need
Petrified Root, at 211 gold live. Here is how the bill splits for two typical pieces at our 2026-10-08 prices:
| Line | Spellbreaker's Legguards | Silvermoon Agent's Coat |
|---|---|---|
| Profession materials | 12 Sterling and 5 Gloaming Alloy: 1,221 gold64 silver | 150 Leather and 75 Scales: 297 gold |
| Intermediate reagent | 1 Sin'dorei Armor Banding: 72 gold99 silver | 2 Armor Banding and 1 Infused Scalewoven Hide: 1,146 gold93 silver |
| Tormented Tantalum | 228 gold50 silver | 228 gold50 silver |
| Other | 1 Dazzling Thorium: 8 gold3 silver | none |
| Total | 1,531 gold16 silver | 1,672 gold43 silver |
The quality of the finished piece depends heavily on the grade of those reagents. Look at the alloys: on our snapshot a higher rank Gloaming Alloy sold for 154 gold against 62 gold for the lower rank, and a higher rank Sterling Alloy for 163 gold against 75 gold97 silver. A customer who brings lower rank alloys gets a lower quality piece unless the crafter adds skill or Concentration. That is the service you sell: turning cheaper reagents into a top quality result.
Finishing reagents and the Artisan's Ledger family
Our item table files a group of Midnight crafting add-ons together, as class 7 subclass 19 trade goods. They come in a clear quality ladder:
| Item | Rarity | Vendor price | Auction House (now) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice's Scribbles | common | 1 silver | 9 gold11 silver |
| Artisan's Ledger | uncommon | 5 silver | 19 gold80 silver |
| Mentor's Helpful Handiwork | rare | 10 silver | 101 gold55 silver |
| Artisan's Consortium Gold Star | epic | 15 silver | not listed |
A second group carries crafting stat names: the Multicraft Matrix and Multicraft Manifold, Resourceful Rebar and Resourceful Routing, and the Ingenious Identity and Ingenious Identifier. None of them had an Auction House price on our snapshot.
Our recipe table links the ledger family to Alchemy and Blacksmithing recipes through an extra slot that is not part of the required reagent list; our lookup stopped at its 80 row limit, so the true number of linked recipes is at least that. The Artisan's Consortium branding suggests these items connect to the crafting order system, but we have not confirmed in our data where they come from or exactly what each one does. Read the tooltip in game before you use one.
The price ladder itself is useful. On 2026-10-08 the Scribbles sold for 12 gold25 silver, the Ledger for 20 gold93 silver and the Handiwork for 104 gold50 silver. If a recipe accepts one of these and the tooltip shows a quality or stat bonus, its price tells you what the market thinks that bonus is worth. Use a Handiwork only on a craft whose rank gap is worth more than about 100 gold, such as a flask or a prism. Alloy rank gaps sat just under that line on our snapshot, so check them first.
When filling an order beats crafting for the market
Use these rules to decide, craft by craft:
- If the item cannot be sold on the Auction House, orders are the only option. That covers the epic armor, weapons and gathering tools above.
- If the item sells on the Auction House, compare. Work out your market margin: sale price minus your full bill. If an order pays you more than that margin for less risk, fill the order.
- If the customer brings the reagents, your risk is near zero. Fill the order as long as the fee covers the Concentration and any reagents you add.
- If you must add expensive reagents yourself, price them in. A Petrified Root or a Tantalum you supply costs you its full Auction House price.
- If you can land the higher rank and others cannot, charge for it. The gap between ranks is the value you create.
Which professions get the most order work
From the bill table, the professions with the most valuable order only crafts are Blacksmithing, Leatherworking and Tailoring, which make the epic armor and weapons. Jewelcrafting adds flawless gem cuts, which our Jewelcrafting page showed selling below their bill on the Auction House because of the Petrified Root; customers who bring the root are better served through an order. Alchemy and Inscription do less order work, because their main products, flasks, inks and missives, trade freely on the Auction House.
Where crafters meet customers
Orders are placed and filled at a crafting table in a capital. Midnight's main hub is Silvermoon City in Eversong Woods. We have not measured order volume by location.

The isle is where the expansion's story heads toward its endgame in our datamine, and endgame progress is what drives demand for top quality crafted gear.

A checklist before you accept an order
- Read what the customer provided. Check every reagent slot and its grade. Lower grade alloys or leather mean the result depends on your skill and Concentration.
- Read what is missing. Any reagent you must supply comes out of your pocket at its live price. Check the strips on this page for the Tantalum and Petrified Root before you agree.
- Check the predicted quality. The profession window shows what rank the craft will reach with and without Concentration. If the customer asked for the top rank and you cannot reach it, decline rather than disappoint.
- Compare the fee with your best alternative. If the same Concentration would lift a flask, a lens or an alloy by a bigger gap, the order has to pay more than that gap to be worth it.
- Craft and deliver promptly. Customers come back to crafters who fill fast and hit the rank they asked for.
Building a reputation as a crafter
Order work rewards repeat customers. A crafter who reliably lands the top rank on epic gear gets more orders, and crafters commonly report that personal orders from returning customers carry better terms than public ones; we hold no order data to confirm it. That reliability comes from two things you control: your specialization points in the recipes you fill most, and keeping Concentration in reserve for orders rather than spending it all on your own crafts. Pick one gear family, such as the Spellbreaker's plate or the Silvermoon Agent's leather, and build your specialization around it. Narrow beats broad here: a crafter who is the best at one family gets found, while a crafter who is average at everything competes on price.
Risks and what to watch
The biggest risk is supplying reagents yourself on an order with a low fee. A single Tantalum or Petrified Root can cost more than the fee. The second is spending Concentration on low value orders and having none left for your own high value crafts. Track what each order actually pays and compare it with the Concentration gaps on our Concentration page. Finally, crafters report that order demand follows the season, peaking when new gear recipes unlock and fading once most players have their pieces; our tables hold no order volume, so treat that as player experience.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
