What a Midnight Flask Costs to Craft
Line by line reagent bills for Flask of the Shattered Sun and Flask of the Blood Knights with Silver, Gold and mixed herbs, set against both flask ranks live.
Lowest current buyout, US region commodity market, read from our Auction House tables. Verified
The short answer
One craft of
Flask of the Shattered Sun cost about 404 gold in reagents on 2026-10-08 with Silver herbs, and about 703 gold with Gold herbs. One craft of
Flask of the Blood Knights cost about 296 gold with Silver herbs and 626 gold with Gold herbs. The higher rank flask sells for 420 gold and 389 gold right now, so the all Gold bill is more than one top rank flask is worth. The cheap way to a top rank flask is Silver or mixed herbs plus Concentration, not a basket of Gold herbs. The Nocturnal Lotus, at 264 gold96 silver live, is the single biggest line in both bills whichever grade of herb you choose.
What goes into a Midnight flask
Our datamine of client build 12.1.0.69933 gives every Midnight raid flask the same shape: two
Sunglass Vial, eight of one herb, six of a second herb, one
Nocturnal Lotus and two motes. Only the herbs and the motes change from flask to flask. That makes the flasks easy to compare and means one Lotus price change moves all four bills by the same amount.
| Flask | Main herb (8) | Second herb (6) | Motes (2) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flask of the Shattered Sun | Azeroot | Argentleaf | Mote of Primal Energy |
| Flask of the Blood Knights | Argentleaf | Sanguithorn | Mote of Wild Magic |
| Flask of the Magisters | Sanguithorn | Mana Lily | Mote of Pure Void |
| Flask of Thalassian Resistance | Mana Lily | Azeroot | Mote of Light |
This page focuses on the two flasks most raiders buy, the Shattered Sun and the Blood Knights. The other two are summarised at the end.
Flask of the Shattered Sun, line by line
Prices below were read on 2026-10-08. The Silver column uses the lower grade of each herb, the Gold column the higher grade. The Vials, Lotus and motes have only one grade, so they are the same in both columns.
| Reagent | Qty | Silver unit | Silver line | Gold unit | Gold line |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nocturnal Lotus | 1 | 249 gold | 249 gold | 249 gold | 249 gold |
| Azeroot | 8 | 15 gold13 silver | 121 gold4 silver | 31 gold5 silver | 248 gold40 silver |
| Argentleaf | 6 | 4 gold44 silver | 26 gold64 silver | 33 gold | 198 gold |
| Sunglass Vial | 2 | 3 gold15 silver | 6 gold30 silver | 3 gold15 silver | 6 gold30 silver |
| Mote of Primal Energy | 2 | 70 silver | 1 gold40 silver | 70 silver | 1 gold40 silver |
| Total | 404 gold38 silver | 703 gold10 silver |
Two things jump out. First, Azeroot is expensive even at the Silver grade, so the Shattered Sun is the most costly flask to make on Silver herbs. Second, the jump from Silver to Gold Argentleaf is huge, more than seven times, while Gold Azeroot is only about twice the Silver price. If you want to spend extra on one herb to push quality, Gold Azeroot buys more of a quality bump per gold than Gold Argentleaf, because it fills eight slots instead of six and costs far less of a premium per slot.
Flask of the Blood Knights, line by line
| Reagent | Qty | Silver unit | Silver line | Gold unit | Gold line |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nocturnal Lotus | 1 | 249 gold | 249 gold | 249 gold | 249 gold |
| Argentleaf | 8 | 4 gold44 silver | 35 gold52 silver | 33 gold | 264 gold |
| Sanguithorn | 6 | 58 silver | 3 gold48 silver | 17 gold50 silver | 105 gold |
| Sunglass Vial | 2 | 3 gold15 silver | 6 gold30 silver | 3 gold15 silver | 6 gold30 silver |
| Mote of Wild Magic | 2 | 60 silver | 1 gold20 silver | 60 silver | 1 gold20 silver |
| Total | 295 gold50 silver | 625 gold50 silver |
On Silver herbs the Blood Knights flask is mostly Lotus: 84 percent of the bill. Its herbs together cost under 40 gold. That is why it is the cheapest of the four to make on Silver reagents, and why its margin follows the Lotus price almost one for one. On Gold herbs it costs more than twice as much, because Gold Argentleaf and Gold Sanguithorn were each priced at many times their Silver grade that day.
Silver, Gold or mixed
You do not have to buy every herb in one grade. The crafting window lets you mix grades inside a slot and across slots, and each Gold herb you add pushes the expected quality up. The question is which herb to upgrade first. Here are the two mixed bills for each flask, from the same 2026-10-08 prices:
| Option | Shattered Sun bill | Blood Knights bill |
|---|---|---|
| All Silver | 404 gold38 silver | 295 gold50 silver |
| Upgrade the 6 herb slot only | 575 gold74 silver (Gold Argentleaf) | 397 gold2 silver (Gold Sanguithorn) |
| Upgrade the 8 herb slot only | 531 gold74 silver (Gold Azeroot) | 523 gold98 silver (Gold Argentleaf) |
| All Gold | 703 gold10 silver | 625 gold50 silver |
The cheapest upgrade path differs by flask. For the Shattered Sun, upgrading the eight Azeroot is cheaper than upgrading the six Argentleaf, and it upgrades more slots. For the Blood Knights, upgrading the six Sanguithorn costs about 100 gold extra while upgrading the eight Argentleaf costs about 228 gold extra. Try the cheap upgrade first in the crafting window and watch the quality meter. If it reaches the top rank, stop there.
Against the flask price: flasks per craft
Each flask exists at two ranks. On 2026-10-08 the higher rank Shattered Sun sold for 417 gold and the lower rank for 132 gold; the higher rank Blood Knights for 387 gold98 silver and the lower rank for 96 gold97 silver. Divide each bill by those prices and you get the number of flasks one craft has to produce to break even, before the Auction House cut:
| Bill | Shattered Sun, higher rank | Shattered Sun, lower rank | Blood Knights, higher rank | Blood Knights, lower rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All Silver | 0.97 | 3.06 | 0.76 | 3.05 |
| Cheapest mixed | 1.28 | 4.03 | 1.02 | 4.09 |
| All Gold | 1.69 | 5.33 | 1.61 | 6.45 |
Read this table carefully, because it is the reason this page exists. Only the all Silver bill breaks even on a single top rank flask. Every Gold herb you add has to buy enough quality to be worth it, and a full Gold bill needs more than one and a half top rank flasks per craft to pay. Lower rank flasks never pay on a single flask at any herb grade.
The multicraft caveat
Multicraft is the profession stat that sometimes gives you extra flasks from one craft. It changes the table above in your favour: if one craft in four gives you a bonus flask, your average output is above one and every break-even number gets easier to beat. Our recipe table does not carry multicraft rates, and the rate depends on your own specialization and gear, so we cannot print one. Track it yourself:
- Craft a set number of flasks, say twenty crafts, using one herb grade.
- Count the flasks that came out and divide by twenty. That is your average yield.
- Count how many came out at each rank.
- Multiply the yield by the price of each rank and compare with the bill on this page.
Write the result down. It is the only number that tells you whether your flasks make money, and nobody else can measure it for you.
The other two flasks
The Magisters flask and the Flask of Thalassian Resistance follow the same pattern. On the 2026-10-08 prices the Magisters bill came to 272 gold8 silver with Silver herbs and 509 gold74 silver with Gold herbs, while Thalassian Resistance came to 362 gold76 silver and 594 gold68 silver. The Magisters flask is the cheapest of the four on Silver herbs, because Silver Sanguithorn and Silver Mana Lily were close to vendor value that day. That leaves it 92 percent Lotus on a Silver bill, which makes it the purest Lotus play in Alchemy.
There is also a cauldron route. The Cauldron of Sin'dorei Flasks takes twenty Vials, four Wondrous Synergist, one Lotus, five Stabilized Derivate and four Petrified Root. With Petrified Root at 350 gold54 silver each on our snapshot, the roots alone cost 1,402 gold16 silver, so the cauldron is a guild purchase, not a market craft. Our datamine also lists Fleeting versions of each flask, which the names suggest come from the cauldron; our tables hold no Auction House price for them.
Where the flask herbs grow
Both featured flasks need Argentleaf, and the Shattered Sun needs Azeroot. Player reports put Azeroot and Sanguithorn in Harandar and Eversong Woods, so a Harandar loop can feed both flasks. We have not walked a route for this page.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355

Voidstorm: Levels 88-90, Unknown, Zone ID 16648
Voidstorm sits at the top of the Midnight level range. Herbalists report Argentleaf there as well, with fewer pickers early in a patch.

How to buy a flask bill without overpaying
- Buy the Lotus first, and only on a day near its 14-day low. It is the biggest line and the most volatile.
- Buy Silver herbs in bulk. Most were cheap on our snapshot and barely move the margin; the exception is Silver Azeroot, which was about a third of the Shattered Sun bill, so time that one like the Lotus.
- Buy Gold herbs last, one slot at a time, and only as many as the quality meter needs.
- Keep a few Vials in your bags. They cost little and are needed for every flask and potion.
- Sell finished higher rank flasks before the weekly raid reset and in the first week of a new raid tier. That is when sellers report demand peaks; we have not measured the timing in our own tables yet.
Common mistakes when pricing a flask
- Pricing the Lotus at yesterday's price. The Lotus is the biggest line in every flask bill, and its 14-day range on our snapshot ran from 175 gold99 silver to 257 gold. A flask bill built on an old Lotus price can be off by 80 gold per craft.
- Pricing herbs at the wrong grade. The Silver and Gold columns above differ by 300 gold or more per craft. Make sure the bill you compare against matches the herbs actually in your bags.
- Comparing the bill with the wrong flask rank. A bill set against the higher rank price looks profitable even when your crafts are landing on the lower rank. Track which rank you actually make.
- Forgetting the Auction House cut. Multiply each break-even number above by 1.05 before deciding. A flask that breaks even at 0.97 before the cut breaks even at about 1.02 after it.
- Buying Gold herbs to fix a weak setup. On our numbers, Gold herbs were the most expensive way to reach the top rank. Concentration and specialization points cost nothing per craft.
A simple weekly flask plan
If you craft flasks for a guild or the market, a steady rhythm keeps you out of trouble. Early in the week, after the raid reset, buy the Lotus and Silver herbs you need for the next week, checking that the Lotus sits near its 14-day low on the strip. Midweek, craft the flasks you can lift to the higher rank with your Concentration, and stop when it runs out instead of buying Gold herbs to keep going. Late in the week, before the next reset, list the finished flasks in a few small batches. Lower rank flasks go to the market in small lots or to guildmates at cost. Repeat, and adjust the batch size to whatever the strip says sold the week before.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
