Alchemy for Gold in Midnight: Flasks, Phials and Margins
Every Midnight flask, phial and potion bill set against its Auction House price, the Nocturnal Lotus share of each flask, and the break-even yield per craft.
Lowest current buyout, US region commodity market, read from our Auction House tables. Verified
The short answer
Midnight Alchemy makes its money on the top rank of the four raid flasks, not on potions. A single craft of
Flask of the Shattered Sun lists for 420 gold at the higher rank, while the same flask at the lower rank lists for 137 gold59 silver. The reagent bill for one craft sits close to the higher price and far above the lower one, so a flask craft only pays when it lands on the top rank or when multicraft hands you extra flasks. Potions and phials look like losses on paper, because our recipe table prices one craft and the market prices one potion. The useful question is how many potions a craft must produce to break even, and this page answers it for every recipe we could price.
How we priced every recipe
Our datamine of client build 12.1.0.69933 lists the reagents and counts for every Midnight Alchemy recipe. We took each recipe, priced every reagent at the lowest grade on the US commodity market, and added the lines up. That gives the bill for one craft. Then we read the Auction House price of the item the recipe makes.
There is one number our recipe table does not carry: how many items one craft produces. Players report that potions and phials come out in batches while flasks come out one or a few at a time, and multicraft adds more on top. Rather than guess a batch size, we divide the bill by the product price. The result is the break-even yield: the number of units one craft has to produce before you stop losing gold. If you know your own yield from the crafting window, you can read your margin straight off the table.
- Take the bill for one craft from the table.
- Divide by the price of one unit of the product.
- Multiply by 1.05 to cover the Auction House cut on the sale side.
- If your average yield per craft beats that number, the craft is profitable today.
The four raid flasks and the Lotus problem
Every Midnight raid flask uses one
Nocturnal Lotus, two
Sunglass Vial, fourteen base herbs split between two kinds, and two motes. The Lotus is the line that decides the bill. On 2026-10-08 it sold for 250 gold8 silver, which made it the single most expensive reagent in Midnight Alchemy by a wide margin.
| Flask | Herbs per craft | Motes | Bill for one craft (2026-10-08) | Lotus share of the bill |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flask of the Shattered Sun | 8 Azeroot, 6 Argentleaf | 2 Mote of Primal Energy | 397 gold72 silver | 63 percent |
| Flask of Thalassian Resistance | 8 Mana Lily, 6 Azeroot | 2 Mote of Light | 358 gold98 silver | 70 percent |
| Flask of the Blood Knights | 8 Argentleaf, 6 Sanguithorn | 2 Mote of Wild Magic | 295 gold60 silver | 85 percent |
| Flask of the Magisters | 8 Sanguithorn, 6 Mana Lily | 2 Mote of Pure Void | 273 gold76 silver | 91 percent |
The share column is the arithmetic: 250 gold8 silver divided by the bill. It tells you something useful about risk. The Magisters flask is almost a pure bet on the Lotus price, because its herbs are the two cheapest Silver herbs on the market. The Shattered Sun flask carries eight Azeroot, and Silver Azeroot held real value on the day we checked, so it is the one flask where a cheap Lotus week does not rescue the bill.
Flask margins at both ranks
Each flask exists as two items, one per quality rank. Our recipe table links the cheaper item as the default output, and the market prices the two very differently. Here are both ranks against the bill, with the break-even yield worked out:
| Flask | Lower rank now | Higher rank now | Break-even yield at lower rank (before the 5 percent cut) | Break-even yield at higher rank (before the 5 percent cut) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shattered Sun | 137 gold59 silver | 420 gold | 3.0 flasks | 0.95 flasks |
| Thalassian Resistance | 119 gold97 silver | 433 gold44 silver | 3.2 flasks | 0.93 flasks |
| Blood Knights | 95 gold | 389 gold | 3.0 flasks | 0.76 flasks |
| Magisters | 93 gold79 silver | 374 gold90 silver | 2.6 flasks | 0.82 flasks |
The yield columns use the 2026-10-08 snapshot: lower rank 132 gold, 113 gold, 96 gold97 silver and 106 gold7 silver; higher rank 417 gold, 383 gold94 silver, 387 gold98 silver and 335 gold. A value below one means a single top rank flask covers the whole bill. So the verdict is simple. If you can reliably hit the higher rank, every flask clears a margin and the Blood Knights flask clears the widest one. If you land on the lower rank, you need roughly three flasks per craft, which is more than a plain craft gives you.
Potions and phials: the break-even table
Potions are where most new alchemists lose gold without noticing. Every potion bill below is for one craft, and every product price is for one potion. Read the last column as "how many potions one craft must make".
| Recipe | Main reagents | Bill (2026-10-08) | Product price (2026-10-08) | Break-even yield |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haranir Phial of Ingenuity | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 6 Sanguithorn, 3 Mana Lily | 36 gold74 silver | 6 gold99 silver | 5.3 |
| Lightfused Mana Potion | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 3 Mana Lily | 36 gold10 silver | 6 gold88 silver | 5.2 |
| Potion of Recklessness | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 4 Azeroot | 87 gold98 silver | 12 gold89 silver | 6.8 |
| Silvermoon Health Potion | 6 Tranquility Bloom | 26 gold96 silver | 3 gold87 silver | 7.0 |
| Light's Potential | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 3 Argentleaf, 3 Azeroot | 86 gold29 silver | 11 gold50 silver | 7.5 |
| Haranir Phial of Finesse | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 6 Mana Lily, 3 Azeroot | 82 gold67 silver | 10 gold77 silver | 7.7 |
| Refreshing Serum | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 3 Sanguithorn | 32 gold8 silver | 3 gold90 silver | 8.2 |
| Haranir Phial of Perception | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 6 Azeroot, 3 Argentleaf | 126 gold30 silver | 14 gold84 silver | 8.5 |
| Void-Shrouded Tincture | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 4 Sanguithorn | 33 gold12 silver | 3 gold28 silver | 10.1 |
| Amani Extract | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 3 Azeroot | 73 gold3 silver | 7 gold | 10.4 |
| Draught of Rampant Abandon | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 3 Mana Lily, 3 Sanguithorn | 38 gold60 silver | 3 gold22 silver | 12.0 |
| Potion of Devoured Dreams | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 4 Mana Lily | 39 gold24 silver | 2 gold65 silver | 14.8 |
| Potion of Zealotry | 8 Tranquility Bloom, 10 Azeroot | 173 gold32 silver | 2 gold78 silver | 62 |
Every potion and phial also needs four or five Sunglass Vials, which are inside the bills above. A few patterns stand out once the table is sorted by break-even yield:
- Tranquility Bloom recipes with cheap partners are the safe crafts. Ingenuity and the Lightfused Mana Potion need only about five units per craft to pay, because Silver Sanguithorn and Silver Mana Lily were cheap on the day we checked.
- Azeroot is the margin killer. Every recipe near the bottom of the table leans on Azeroot. Potion of Zealotry needs ten of them, and at a sale price under 3 gold it would need sixty units per craft to break even. Do not craft it for the Auction House until either Azeroot falls or the potion price climbs.
- The Vials matter more than you think. Five Sunglass Vials were more than half the bill of a Silvermoon Health Potion on our snapshot. When
Sunglass Vial is cheap, potions get cheaper to make across the board.
The crafts that clear a margin today
Sorting every priced recipe by the gap between bill and product price, a short list survives without any yield assumption at all:
| Craft | Bill (2026-10-08) | Sale (2026-10-08) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Any raid flask at the higher rank | 273 gold76 silver to 397 gold72 silver | 335 gold to 417 gold | Profitable on one flask per craft |
| Wondrous Synergist | 45 gold38 silver plus Stabilized Derivate | 135 gold74 silver | Profitable unless the Derivate costs more than about 22 gold each |
| Vicious Thalassian Flask of Honor | 107 gold6 silver | 54 gold50 silver | Needs 2 per craft |
| Composite Flora | 32 gold12 silver | 14 gold42 silver | Needs 2.2 per craft |
Wondrous Synergist is the quiet winner. It takes two of each of the five base herbs plus four Stabilized Derivate, and it sold for 110 gold69 silver live. Our tables did not hold a price for Stabilized Derivate on 2026-10-08, so the bill is partial. Do the last step yourself: the known reagents cost 45 gold38 silver, and the sale left about 90 gold of room for four Derivate. If you make Derivate yourself, this is the best value per herb in the whole profession. Synergists also feed the Cauldron of Sin'dorei Flasks and the Voidlight Potion Cauldron, which is where raid guilds buy them.
Composite Flora is the other one to watch. It is a Leatherworking input for the Herbalist's Backpack and Herbtender's Cradle as well as an Alchemy reagent, so its demand does not depend only on alchemists.
Where the herbs come from
You can buy every herb, but an alchemist who also picks herbs keeps the herb margin too. All five base herbs and the Nocturnal Lotus are gathered with Herbalism in the Midnight zones. We have not walked or timed an herb route for this page, so the zones below are where to look, not a yield promise.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355
Harandar is the zone for a flask alchemist. Player reports put Azeroot and Sanguithorn there alongside Argentleaf, which covers the Shattered Sun and Blood Knights flasks on a single loop.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968
Eversong Woods is the low end of the level range, tuned for 80 to 83. Player reports put Tranquility Bloom there; we have not confirmed node spawns in our data. Our recipe table does confirm the demand side: Tranquility Bloom is in every potion and phial on this page, eight per craft in most of them, six in the Silvermoon Health Potion and three in the Enlightenment Tonic.

Midnight herb loop for an alchemist
Not walked yet
No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.
What to do first as a new Midnight alchemist
- Do not craft potions for the Auction House until you know your batch size. Make ten crafts of one potion, count the output, and compare it with the break-even column.
- Learn all four flask recipes, then keep a small stock of finished flasks ready for raid week. Sellers commonly report that flask demand climbs before the weekly reset and at the start of a raid tier; we have not measured that timing in our own tables yet.
- Price the higher rank first. If the higher rank flask is above the full bill, it is worth spending Concentration on flasks before anything else.
- Buy Lotus on low days. Its 14-day range was wide on our snapshot, from 175 gold99 silver to 257 gold, and every flask you craft eats one.
- Make Wondrous Synergists whenever Stabilized Derivate is cheap. It turned ten herbs into one of the best priced items in the profession on the day we checked.
Risks and what to watch on the Auction House
The first risk is the Lotus. At Silver herbs it was 63 to 91 percent of every flask bill on our snapshot, so a Lotus spike can wipe out a flask margin overnight. Watch its 14-day high on the strip at the top of this page and stop crafting flasks when it is pinned there.
The second risk is the lower rank. Lower rank flasks were priced at less than a third of the higher rank on the day we checked. If your crafts keep landing on the lower rank, you are buying top herbs to sell bottom flasks. Sell those as raid fodder in small lots, and fix your setup before crafting more.
The third risk is patch day. A recipe change can move herb demand and flask prices in hours, and you cannot gather fast enough to chase it. Keep a small stock of Lotus and Vials across patch days instead of a stack of finished potions.
Finally, remember that every bill on this page uses the cheapest grade of each herb. Using Gold herbs raises the bill, sometimes a lot. The Gold herb spread is covered on the herb pages, and the full Gold reagent bill is on the flask cost page linked below.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
