Devilsaur Leather in WoW Forever: Value and the Gear It Makes
Devilsaur Leather in WoW Forever: what the beta client lists, the gauntlets, leggings and Persuader it makes, the leather math, and when to sell.
Lowest buyout from player scans of the WoW Forever beta Auction House, as of beta build 70291. Beta prices are a testing economy and will not carry over to launch. Last verified
The short answer
Devilsaur Leather is the most famous leather in Classic, and WoW Forever keeps it almost exactly as it was. The client still lists the Devilsaur Gauntlets and Devilsaur Leggings, the two pieces that made it famous, plus the Persuader mace in Blacksmithing. On the beta there are no Devilsaur Leather listings at all; the level cap of 20 to 30 keeps everyone far from the dinosaurs, so the live strip below will read empty until launch. The useful fact for now: the two Devilsaur pieces take twenty-two Devilsaur Leather between them, and the leggings alone take fourteen. Every leatherworker who wants the pair for themselves or a guildmate needs a stack of it. Hold your Devilsaur Leather at launch, sell into the first wave of level 60 leatherworkers, and never vendor it.
What the client says
The Forever beta client lists Devilsaur Leather as a common leather with a vendor price of 5 silver. Our extract finds five recipes whose reagent lists name it.
| Recipe | Profession | Skill range | Devilsaur Leather | Other reagents | Makes an item in the client |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Devilsaur Gauntlets | Leatherworking | 285 to 305 | 8 | 30 Rugged Leather, 1 Rune Thread | yes, rare quality |
| Devilsaur Leggings | Leatherworking | 310 to 330 | 14 | 30 Rugged Leather, 1 Cured Rugged Hide, 1 Rune Thread | yes, rare quality |
| Devilcore Gauntlets | Leatherworking | 310 to 330 | 8 | 30 Rugged Leather, 1 Rune Thread, 8 Essence of Fire | not resolved in our extract |
| Devilcore Leggings | Leatherworking | 320 to 340 | 20 | 30 Rugged Leather, 1 Cured Rugged Hide, 1 Rune Thread, 10 Essence of Fire | not resolved in our extract |
| Persuader | Blacksmithing | 320 to 340 | 10 | 15 Arcanite Bar, 10 Dark Iron Bar, 20 Essence of Undeath, 20 Dark Rune, 2 Skin of Shadow | yes, epic quality |
The two Devilcore rows need a note. They exist in the Forever client's spell tables with full reagent lists, but our extract does not resolve a product item for either of them. Our extract does not mark them as new to Forever, because the Classic Era client it compares against carries the same entries. Until a build gives them a product, we treat them as inactive entries, not recipes you can plan around. That is our reading of the data, not a statement from Blizzard. That leaves three working recipes and thirty-two Devilsaur Leather to craft each once.
The leather math
Here is an analysis built only from the client recipes.
| Recipe | Devilsaur Leather | Rugged Leather | Devilsaur share of the leather |
|---|---|---|---|
| Devilsaur Gauntlets | 8 | 30 | 21 percent |
| Devilsaur Leggings | 14 | 30 | 32 percent |
| Both pieces together | 22 | 60 | 27 percent |
By count, Devilsaur Leather is only about a quarter of the leather in the pair. Rugged Leather does most of the work. But the client gives both leathers the same vendor price of 5 silver, and that hides the real difference: Rugged Leather comes off almost every high-level beast, while Devilsaur Leather comes from one family of creatures. A realm will have far more Rugged Leather than Devilsaur Leather, so the twenty-two Devilsaur pieces, not the sixty Rugged, decide how many pairs get made.
The Persuader is the other buyer. It takes ten Devilsaur Leather, but it also takes fifteen Arcanite Bars and twenty Dark Runes, which makes it rare to craft. It is a small slice of demand compared with the leatherworking pair. Put a number on it: of the 32 Devilsaur Leather the three working recipes need, the pair takes 22, about 69 percent, and the Persuader takes 10, about 31 percent. If the two Devilcore entries ever resolve to real items, the total jumps to 60 and the leatherworking share to 83 percent, because those two patterns alone would add 28 more.
The supporting reagents
A leatherworker making the pair needs more than Devilsaur Leather. Here is what the client lists and what the beta showed on 2026-10-08.
| Item | Vendor price (client) | Latest beta scan | Used in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rugged Leather | 5 silver | 5 silver | 30 per piece |
| Cured Rugged Hide | 5 silver | … | 1 for the leggings |
| Rune Thread | 12 silver50 copper | 70 silver | 1 per piece |
Rugged Leather matters to skinners in its own right. Our leather ladder guide shows it named in 213 recipe entries in the Forever client, more than any other leather. Even if you drop the 40 entries whose product item our extract does not resolve, 173 remain, still the longest list of any leather. A skinner farming Devilsaurs will bring home far more Rugged Leather than Devilsaur Leather, and both sell.
Craft or sell: the leatherworker's choice
If you skin and also level Leatherworking, you face a real decision with every stack: sell the leather, or turn it into gear. Here is how to think about it with the client recipes in front of you.
| Situation | Better call | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You have the Gauntlets pattern and 8 Devilsaur, 30 Rugged, 1 Rune Thread | Craft the gauntlets if they sell for more than the three reagent prices combined | The gauntlets are bind on equip in Classic and sold well to hunters and rogues |
| You have the Leggings pattern but no Cured Rugged Hide | Sell the leather, or buy the hide | One missing hide blocks the craft; the leather keeps its value meanwhile |
| You are below skill 285 | Sell the leather | You cannot use it yet, and the launch wave of leatherworkers will pay for it |
| The market is flooded with crafted gauntlets | Sell the raw leather | Buyers who craft for themselves still need leather; crafted pieces compete with each other |
Two cautions. First, the Classic binding rules for the Devilsaur pieces come from Classic Era; our extract covers recipes, not item binding, so check the item tooltip in game before planning to resell crafted pieces. Second, a leatherworker crafts each piece only once for their own use, but may craft it many times for sale. The leather market is built on the second kind of buyer, and that buyer only exists while crafted pieces sell above their reagent cost.
What a Devilsaur hunt really brings home
A skinner never comes back from a dinosaur hunt with only Devilsaur Leather. In Classic, the creatures around the Devilsaurs dropped Rugged Leather, Thick Leather and the occasional hide, and the Devilsaurs themselves sometimes gave Rugged Leather too. That matters for planning, because the bulk of what you carry home is the common leather, and the common leather is what Forever leans on hardest. The client names Rugged Leather in 213 recipe entries and Thick Leather in 112, against five for Devilsaur Leather.
So a sensible plan treats the Devilsaur Leather as the prize and the Rugged Leather as the wage. Sell the Rugged Leather steadily as you go, hold the Devilsaur Leather for the right buyer, and you never end a hunt with nothing to show for it.
Risks to keep in mind
- The recipes may move. The Devilcore entries show the client carries recipe data with no resolved product. A later build could activate them, change the Devilsaur counts or add a new use.
- Elite creatures cost time. In Classic, Devilsaurs were elite and dangerous. Deaths, repairs and waiting for respawns all eat into a hunt, and we have not measured any of it on Forever.
- Competition is fierce in launch month. Everyone who remembers Classic knows Devilsaur Leather is valuable. Expect other skinners in the same fields.
How to sell Devilsaur Leather at launch
- Hold the first stacks. Leatherworkers reach 285 for the gauntlets and 310 for the leggings in a wave after launch. That wave is your market.
- Sell in fourteens and eights. Buyers think in pieces: fourteen for the leggings, eight for the gauntlets. Listing in those amounts makes the purchase easy.
- Offer the full kit. A leatherworker also needs sixty Rugged Leather, a Cured Rugged Hide and two Rune Thread. If you have Rugged Leather from the same hunt, sell it next to the Devilsaur.
- Watch for a Devilcore product. If a future build gives the Devilcore recipes an item, demand for Devilsaur Leather jumps: the Devilcore Leggings take twenty.
- Never vendor it. The client pays 5 silver, the same as Rugged Leather. That price says nothing about how rare it is.
Where Devilsaurs lived in Classic
The beta client does not ship maps for these zones yet, so the banners show continent art. Everything in this section is Classic Era geography and has not been checked on the Forever beta.

Un'Goro Crater: Kalimdor, Zone ID 490
In Classic, Devilsaurs and their relatives roamed Un'Goro Crater, the jungle bowl south of the Barrens. They were elite, patrolled wide areas and hit hard, so skinners usually hunted them in pairs or used crowd control. Ironhide and Tyrant Devilsaurs walked the crater edges and the open fields.

Tanaris: Kalimdor, Zone ID 440

Feralas: Kalimdor, Zone ID 357
Tanaris and Feralas were the nearby zones where skinners also collected Rugged Leather and Thick Leather from other high-level beasts. Silithus, to the west, sat in the same level band.

Silithus: Kalimdor, Zone ID 1377
Forever adds Mount Hyjal as its new high-level zone, and the client adds new leathers: Pristine Leather in the mid levels and Fel Leather at the top, which fifty-two new Leatherworking recipes use, several of them next to Rugged Leather in the same late-game band as the Devilsaur pieces. We do not know yet whether any new creature in Forever drops Devilsaur Leather.

Not walked yet
No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.
What to watch on the Auction House
- Rugged Leather against Devilsaur Leather. If Rugged runs short, leatherworkers cannot make the pair even with Devilsaur in hand.
- Rune Thread. On the beta it already scanned well above its vendor price. It is one per piece, so a shortage hits every Devilsaur craft.
- Devilsaur Gauntlets and Leggings listings. When crafted pieces appear, the leather has started moving.
Is it worth your time?
Not on the beta. At launch, Devilsaur Leather is one of the few skinning materials whose value comes from a specific, well-known piece of gear rather than from volume, so a skinner who can handle elite dinosaurs has a reliable product. Expect demand in a wave as leatherworkers reach 285 and 310, and sell into it. No hunting route has been walked, so there is no hourly figure here, only the recipes and the reagents that set the price.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. WoW Forever is in beta: every fact here is labelled with the client build it was read from and can change before launch. Read the full method or the about page.
