The short answer

Sunfire Silk is Midnight's most valuable cloth. Raw silk trades at 54 gold60 silver (Silver) and 58 gold42 silver (Gold), and its bolt, Sunfire Silk Bolt, trades at 120 gold. The surprise is the bolt: it takes five silk plus six Imbued Bright Linen Bolts and four Motes of Light, and on every day of our 14-day window it sold for less than half of what those reagents cost. So if you collect Sunfire Silk, sell it raw. If you are a tailor who needs bolts for a craft, buy the bolts finished. The only exception is a tailor whose own crafting setup returns extra bolts or saves reagents often enough to close a gap of more than half; we have not measured that and will not assume it.

Raw Sunfire Silk is a rare-quality trade good in two grades. The bolt is epic quality, also in two grades. The Lining is a rare intermediate in two grades, and the Spellthread is an epic finished product that adds stats to legs. Our datamine lists all of them under Tailoring.

Look at the grade columns for raw silk and the bolt. Gold silk traded only about five percent above Silver on 2026-10-08, and the Gold bolt actually read slightly below the Silver bolt. The grade premium that matters so much for herbs is almost absent here. A tailor buying silk for bolts or gear mostly buys whichever grade is cheaper today, so you can price your silk off the cheaper grade's floor without losing much.

Every recipe that eats Sunfire Silk

Raw silk is a reagent in ten recipes in our extract, all Tailoring. Nine of the ten also take finished bolts, which means each of those crafts pulls silk off the market twice: once as raw silk and once as the silk inside its bolts. To make that visible we added a column nobody else prints: total silk per craft, counting five silk for every bolt.

The three cloaks are the heaviest silk sinks in Midnight by a long way. Each one consumes the equivalent of 170 Sunfire Silk. At the price our tables held for Silver silk on 2026-10-08, 59 gold45 silver, that is about 10,106 gold of silk per cloak if every bolt were crafted from raw silk. Nobody pays that in practice, because finished bolts were far cheaper than the silk inside them, which brings us to the main analysis.

The bolt problem: why raw silk outsells its own bolt

Here is the bolt bill at the prices our tables held on 2026-10-08, Silver grades throughout:

ReagentQuantityUnit price (2026-10-08)Line costShare
Sunfire Silk559 gold45 silver297 gold25 silver94 percent
Imbued Bright Linen Bolt62 gold77 silver16 gold62 silver5 percent
Mote of Light454 silver2 gold16 silver1 percent
Total316 gold3 silver

The Silver bolt sold for 131 gold28 silver that evening, about 42 percent of the bill. At the 14-day lows of every reagent the bill falls to about 275 gold4 silver, and the bolt's own low was 125 gold, so the ratio barely moves: about 45 percent. Even the five raw silk alone cost more than twice what the bolt sold for.

A gap that wide and that steady usually means the bolt is reaching the market some way other than a tailor buying every input at market price. Plausible reasons include tailors with crafting stats that return extra bolts or save reagents, tailors bolting silk they collected themselves and valuing it at zero, or bolts coming from some other source we have not found in our extract. We cannot confirm which. What we can say is what the numbers mean for you:

  1. If you have raw silk, sell the silk. Bolting it yourself and selling the bolt lost more than half the value on every day of our window.
  2. If you need bolts, buy bolts. A finished bolt was the cheapest way to get five silk's worth of material into a recipe.
  3. If you need raw silk for a recipe, buy only the raw silk the recipe itself lists. Do not buy extra silk to make bolts.

Lining and Spellthread: the same story at a higher price

The two other Sunfire intermediates show the same shape.

The Spellthread comes closest to paying, and it is the one product here whose price climbed steeply inside our window, from 1,200 gold79 silver to 2,245 gold. Its bill has a second heavy input besides silk: four Petrified Root, which cost about 1,402 gold together that evening, roughly 44 percent of the bill. If Petrified Root drops, Spellthread becomes the first Sunfire craft to break even. Watch 211 gold if you are a tailor.

Where the bolt demand comes from

The finished bolt has a much longer recipe list than the raw silk: 25 recipes, 24 Tailoring and one Enchanting formula. Besides the cloaks, bracers, sash, treads, backpack, lining and spellthread above, it goes into:

  • the Martyr's Gloves, Leggings, Vestments and Waistwrap (12 bolts each, plus one Peerless Plumage)
  • the Elegant Artisan's Cooking Hat, Fishing Hat and Tailoring Robe, and the Thalassian Chef's Chapeau and Tailor's Threads (8 bolts each)
  • the Adherent's Silken Shroud (6 Sunfire Silk Bolts and 6 Arcanoweave Bolts)
  • housing: Luxurious Silvermoon Lounge Cushion (4), Lush Telogrus Carpet (4, plus 4 Arcanoweave Bolts), Plush Silvermoon Bed (8, plus 8 Arcanoweave Bolts)
  • Snakeskin Lining (2, plus 2 Arcanoweave Bolts)

That is a broad base: armor, profession gear and decor all pull on the same bolt. It also explains why the bolt's price range is so tight (about 17 gold wide over 14 days for the Silver grade): many buyers, each taking a few bolts, smooth the demand out.

Where to find Sunfire Silk

Sunfire Silk is cloth, so it comes from humanoid enemies. The loot tables are not in the data we read, so everything in this section is a player report, and we have not walked or timed a farm.

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947

Players most often mention the higher-level humanoid camps for Sunfire Silk, including Zul'Aman (83 to 88), where it reportedly drops alongside the much more common Bright Linen.

Voidstorm (88 to 90) is the other zone players name, along with group content that kills a lot of humanoids. The rule of thumb players repeat is that silk is a rare extra on top of linen, so every hour of humanoid killing gives you a pile of linen and a few silk.

How to sell Sunfire Silk

  1. Sell it raw. On our tables raw silk was worth more than twice the bolt it could make, every day for two weeks.
  2. Price off the cheaper grade. The Gold premium was about five percent; do not hold Gold silk out for a big premium that is not there.
  3. Never vendor. Silk vendors for 5 silver against a market price measured in tens of gold.
  4. Watch the cloak crafters. The three 170-silk cloaks are the biggest sink. When they are being crafted, both silk and bolts tighten.
  5. Watch Petrified Root if you craft. It is the input that decides whether Spellthread pays.

Is Sunfire Silk worth chasing?

Sunfire Silk is the reason to kill humanoids in Midnight, not Bright Linen. On 2026-10-08 one Silver silk was worth roughly 47 Silver Bright Linen. That ratio changes how you should think about a cloth session: the linen covers your repairs, and the silk is the income. If players are right that silk is a rare extra on humanoids, then a session with no silk is a poor session no matter how much linen you carry home, and a session with a handful of silk is a good one.

It also tells you to keep an eye on the comparison with Arcanoweave, the other rare Midnight cloth. Arcanoweave traded at well under half of Sunfire Silk's price when we checked, and its bolt chain shows the same pattern of bolts selling below their inputs. If you are choosing between content that reportedly drops one or the other, the silk side is worth more per unit by a wide margin.

What we cannot tell you yet is how often silk drops. We have not walked or logged a humanoid farm, and we will not print an hourly figure until we have. The page gives you the parts that do not go stale: live prices, the silk hidden in every recipe, and a bolt bill that shows why raw silk is the thing to sell.
