The short answer

Scalewoven Hide is a Leatherworking intermediate, not something you skin. One Void-Tempered Hide plus one Void-Tempered Plating makes one Scalewoven Hide, which trades at 5 gold (Silver) and 5 gold (Gold). The Infused version trades at 850 gold and 1,110 gold, which looks like a magic upgrade until you read the recipe: infusing needs a whole Majestic Hide, and that one reagent costs more than the Infused Hide sells for. So the big price gap is the Majestic Hide's price showing through, not free money. If you own a Majestic Hide, compare it with the Infused price before you craft; on the day we checked, selling the Majestic Hide raw won by a wide margin.

Two items, two grades each

Our datamine lists four ids. Both items come in a Silver and a Gold grade, both are rare quality, and both are Leatherworking trade goods.

On 2026-10-08 the Silver Infused Hide sold for roughly 72 times the Silver base Hide. That gap held for the whole 14-day window: the cheapest Infused sale in our history was still about fifty times the most expensive base sale. The question this page answers is where that gap comes from.

The recipe chain

Two Leatherworking recipes connect everything:

StepRecipeReagentsMakes
1Scalewoven Hide1 Void-Tempered Hide, 1 Void-Tempered Plating1 Scalewoven Hide
2Infused Scalewoven Hide1 Scalewoven Hide, 1 Majestic Hide, 2 each of Mote of Light, Mote of Primal Energy, Mote of Pure Void and Mote of Wild Magic1 Infused Scalewoven Hide

Step one turns two ordinary rare skins into one intermediate. Step two adds the rarest skin in the expansion and eight motes. Every Infused Hide therefore contains, at the bottom of the chain, one Void-Tempered Hide, one Void-Tempered Plating and one Majestic Hide.

Where the value actually sits

Here is the step-two bill at the prices our tables held on 2026-10-08, using Silver inputs:

ReagentQuantityUnit price (2026-10-08)Line costShare of bill
Majestic Hide11,750 gold5 silver1,750 gold5 silver99.0 percent
Scalewoven Hide (Silver)113 gold82 silver13 gold82 silver0.8 percent
Mote of Primal Energy270 silver1 gold40 silverunder 0.1 percent
Mote of Wild Magic260 silver1 gold20 silverunder 0.1 percent
Mote of Light254 silver1 gold8 silverunder 0.1 percent
Mote of Pure Void222 silver44 silverunder 0.1 percent

The total comes to about 1,767 gold99 silver. The Silver Infused Hide sold for about 1,000 gold95 silver the same evening. So a crafter who bought every reagent got back roughly 57 cents on the gold. Over the 14-day window it was the same story: Majestic Hide never traded below 1,683 gold in our history, and Infused Scalewoven Hide never traded above 1,175 gold.

That is the analysis nobody else prints, and it changes the advice completely. The base Scalewoven Hide is 0.8 percent of an Infused Hide's cost. Improving your Scalewoven Hide supply does nothing to the Infused price. The Majestic Hide price is the Infused price, minus whatever discount the market is applying.

Silver or Gold Infused Hide

The two grades of the Infused Hide sat close together on 2026-10-08: the Gold grade was about a tenth more expensive than the Silver grade. Compare that with the base Scalewoven Hide, where Gold traded at about 1.6 times Silver. The reason is the same Majestic Hide. Both grades of the Infused item contain one, and the Majestic Hide itself has only one grade, so the floor under both Infused grades is the same. The grade of the base Scalewoven Hide you feed in only nudges the result, which is why the Gold premium is thin. If you are buying an Infused Hide for a craft where the finished quality matters, the Gold grade is a cheap upgrade relative to the whole bill. If you only need the slot filled, buy Silver.

Why the base Hide stays cheap

It is tempting to think the base Scalewoven Hide should be valuable because the Infused one is. It is not, and the bill shows why: the base item is less than one percent of an Infused Hide's cost, and every crafter who wants to infuse already has easy access to it. Its price tracks its own inputs, Void-Tempered Hide and Void-Tempered Plating, plus the small decor and profession-gear demand covered below. That is why the base item spent the whole 14-day window between 9 gold and 26 gold59 silver while the Infused item never dropped under 899 gold. Two items with nearly the same name live in two different markets.

What this means for you

If you are a skinner with a Majestic Hide

Sell the Majestic Hide raw unless the Infused price has climbed above it. On 2026-10-08 the raw Hide was worth about 749 gold more than the Infused Hide it would have made. Check the two live numbers, 1,736 gold66 silver for Majestic Hide and 850 gold for Infused, and infuse only when the second is larger than the first plus the small cost of the other reagents.

If you are a leatherworker who needs Infused Hide for a craft

Buy it finished rather than making it, for the same reason. Infused Scalewoven Hide appears in 37 recipes in our extract: 36 from Leatherworking and one from Jewelcrafting (Mage-Eye Precision Loupes). That includes every piece of the Silvermoon Agent's, Farstrider's, World Tender's and Row Walker's sets, the Thalassian profession gear, and the two Armor Kits. When the finished Hide is cheaper than its own Majestic Hide, buying it is the cheaper way to fill that slot.

If you only have Hide and Plating

Then the question is step one: is Scalewoven Hide worth more than the Hide and Plating that make it? On 2026-10-08 it was not. Silver Hide plus Silver Plating cost 17 gold25 silver and the Silver Scalewoven Hide sold for 13 gold82 silver. At the 14-day lows the answer flips (inputs 5 gold35 silver, product low 9 gold), so watch all three prices and craft only when the skins are near their lows and Scalewoven Hide is not.

Who buys the base Scalewoven Hide

The base item has its own small market outside the Infused recipe. Our extract shows 15 Leatherworking recipes that use it:

UseRecipesScalewoven Hide per craft
Infused Scalewoven Hide11
Profession gear (Alchemist's Hat, Engineer's Gloves, Forgemaster's Cover, Jeweler's Cover, Herbalist's Backpack)51 to 2
Leatherworking gear and packs (Eversong Hunter's Headcover, Sin'dorei Hunter's Pack, Leathershaper's Smock)32
Housing decor (Fur Rug, Snakeskin Rack, Snakeskin Canopy, Haranir Table, Mounted Moby)52 to 8
Primal Spore Binding11

The decor row is the interesting one for sellers. Flat Snakeskin Canopy takes eight Scalewoven Hides and Mounted Moby takes six, so housing fans can drain a thin market quickly. That is a good reason to keep a handful listed rather than none.

Where the inputs come from

Scalewoven Hide is made, not found, so the farming question is really about Void-Tempered Hide, Void-Tempered Plating and Majestic Hide. Skinners report the Void-Tempered rare skins as occasional extras from leathery and scaly beasts, and Majestic Hide as a much rarer find. We have not measured any of those rates and will not print a drop chance. Our guides to Void-Tempered materials and Majestic skinning finds cover the live prices of each.

No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.

A step-by-step decision

  1. Open this page and read three live prices: Majestic Hide, Infused Scalewoven Hide (Silver) and Scalewoven Hide (Silver).
  2. If Infused is below Majestic Hide, sell any Majestic Hide raw. Stop here.
  3. If Infused is above Majestic Hide by more than the cost of a Scalewoven Hide and eight motes, infusing pays. Craft one, list it, and re-check before crafting the next.
  4. For plain Hide and Plating, add their two prices and compare with Scalewoven Hide. Craft only if the product is worth more.
  5. List Infused Hide in single units. Its buyers need one per craft, and a stack of five sitting on the market invites an undercut war.

What to watch

  • Majestic Hide. It sets the Infused price. A drop in Majestic Hide usually drags Infused down within days.
  • New crafted gear. Every set piece that asks for an Infused Hide adds demand. Patch days that add sets are when the Infused price tends to catch up with its inputs.
  • Housing decor demand. Decor recipes take two to eight base Scalewoven Hides each, a quiet but real sink.
  • The motes. They are under one percent of the bill today, but motes have spiked before. If any of the four mote prices jumps tenfold, the step-two sum changes a little; it would take far more than that to matter next to the Majestic Hide.

Common mistakes with Scalewoven Hide

The first mistake is infusing on autopilot. Leatherworkers who skin their own Majestic Hide often think of it as free and infuse it because the recipe is there. It is not free: it is a 1,750 gold item on the Auction House as of 2026-10-08. Price your own skins at market before you decide.

The second mistake is listing Infused Hide in a stack. Each crafted epic takes exactly one, so buyers come one at a time. Post single units and keep the rest in your bank.

The third mistake is assuming the gap will close. A market that has priced an item below its inputs for two straight weeks can stay that way. Plan around the prices you can see, not the prices you think are fair.
