The short answer
Midnight skinning pays in two layers. The bulk layer is
Void-Tempered Leather and
Void-Tempered Scales, which you get from almost every skin and which sell for 85 silver and 61 silver. The bonus layer is the rare finds:
Void-Tempered Hide at 4 gold,
Void-Tempered Plating at 88 silver, and above them a handful of animal parts topped by
Majestic Hide at 1,736 gold66 silver. Your income from a session is mostly decided by the bonus layer, so the real skill is selling rare finds well, not skinning faster. Leatherworking is the main buyer: of the 153 recipes in our extract that use any raw Midnight skinning material, 89 are Leatherworking recipes.
Every Midnight skinning material, priced
This is the whole skinnable market as our datamine lists it. The four Void-Tempered materials come in Silver and Gold grades; the animal parts are single-grade.

Read the table from the bottom up and you have the value ranking. Read it from the top down and you have the frequency ranking: skinners get the bulk skins on almost every corpse and the Majestic parts rarely. The two lists run in opposite directions, and that is normal for a gathering profession. What is less normal is how steep the top of the curve is here: on 2026-10-08 one Majestic Hide was worth about 1,770 Silver Void-Tempered Leather.
Where the demand comes from
We counted every recipe in our extract that takes at least one of the fourteen ids above. There are 153 distinct recipes. The profession split:
| Profession | Recipes using raw skinning materials | What they mostly make |
|---|---|---|
| Leatherworking | 89 | leather and mail armor, profession gear, bags, armor kits, drums, housing decor |
| Engineering | 20 | Aetherlume armor, profession tools, fishing rods |
| Blacksmithing | 16 | Sun-Blessed and Sunforged profession tools |
| Tailoring | 12 | Martyr's set, cloaks, bags |
| Enchanting | 7 | formulas that list a Majestic part or Fur |
| Inscription | 6 | Aln'hara staves and lantern, rolling pins |
| Jewelcrafting | 2 | jeweler's loupes |
| Alchemy | 1 | Box of Rocks |
Leatherworking is 58 percent of the recipe count, and almost all of the bulk Leather and Scales demand. The other professions mostly want the rare parts. So there are really two customer groups. Leatherworkers buy Leather and Scales by the hundred for armor. Everyone else buys a single Claw, Fin or Hide to finish a tool.
That split explains a pattern in our price history. Bulk skins swing hard within a fortnight (Silver Leather ran from 1 silver to 87 silver in our 14-day window) because one profession's crafting mood moves them. The Majestic parts hold a tighter band because their buyers are spread across six professions and each buyer needs only one or two.
How the crafting chain uses your skins
Most of the value in Midnight leather gear flows through three intermediates. Knowing them tells you why some skins move in pairs.
- Scalewoven Hide takes one Void-Tempered Hide and one Void-Tempered Plating. Hide and Plating therefore rise and fall together.
- Infused Scalewoven Hide takes one Scalewoven Hide, one Majestic Hide and eight motes. It is needed by 38 crafted recipes.
- Sin'dorei Armor Banding takes one Void-Tempered Plating, one Fantastic Fur and two Motes of Light. Most crafted epics need one or two.
A single crafted epic chest from the Silvermoon Agent's set, for example, asks for 150 Void-Tempered Leather, 75 Scales, two Bandings, one Infused Hide and a Tormented Tantalum. Trace that back to raw skins and one chest consumes 150 Leather, 75 Scales, one Hide, three Plating, two Fur and one Majestic Hide. Our guides to Void-Tempered materials, Scalewoven Hide and Majestic finds break each layer down.
Silver and Gold skins: does the grade matter?
For herbs and ore the grade gap can be huge. For Midnight skins it is mostly small, with one exception. On 2026-10-08 Gold Void-Tempered Leather traded within a few copper of Silver, Gold Scales at about a third more than Silver, and Gold Hide at about a fifth more. Void-Tempered Plating was the outlier: its Gold grade sold for about two and a half times the Silver grade.
The buyers explain it. Bulk Leather and Scales go into recipes that ask for 20 to 200 of them, and crafters filling a slot that large mostly buy whatever is cheapest. Plating goes into Sin'dorei Armor Banding and Scalewoven Hide, small slots at the expensive end of the chain, where crafters chasing a better finished item will pay for the better grade. So if your skinning setup is improving and you are seeing more Gold results, the place you will feel it most is Plating. Everywhere else, the grade is a small bonus rather than a reason to change zones.
The PvP sets and other steady buyers
Not all Leather demand comes from high-end gear. Sixteen Thalassian Competitor's recipes (eight leather pieces and eight chain pieces) each take 10 to 40 Leather or Scales, one Void-Tempered Hide or Plating and a Sin'dorei Armor Banding. Crafting one of every Competitor's piece would eat 360 Leather and 360 Scales. PvP sets tend to sell in bursts at the start of a season, which makes the first weeks of a PvP season a good time to have bulk skins listed.
The everyday sink is profession gear and bags: the Skinner's Cap and Backpack, Chemist's Cap, Tinker's Handguard, Hideworker's Cover, Eversong Botanist's Satchel and the various aprons. Each takes 20 to 40 Leather and 20 to 30 Scales. They never create a spike, but they keep a floor under the bulk market even in quiet weeks.
Mistakes that cost skinners gold
- Selling rare finds in a hurry. The bulk skins can be dumped; the rare parts cannot. A Majestic Hide listed an hour after you skin it, at whatever the cheapest listing is, is the most expensive mistake on this page.
- Ignoring the pair links. Plating, Hide, Fur and Majestic Hide all feed intermediates. When one of the intermediates jumps, the raw skins behind it follow within days. Check the intermediate before you sell the skin.
- Crafting without doing the sum. On the day we checked, Scalewoven Hide sold for less than the Hide and Plating that make it, and Infused Hide sold for less than its Majestic Hide. Crafting only pays when the inputs are near their lows.
Where to start by level
The client's content tuning data gives each outdoor zone a level range. We have not walked a timed route in any of them, so this is a starting map, not a yield table.

Eversong Woods: Levels 80-83, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15968
Eversong Woods (80 to 83) is where to learn the profession. Mobs are forgiving and you can skin while questing. Expect mostly bulk skins.

Harandar: Levels 83-88, Unknown, Zone ID 15355
Harandar (83 to 88) is the zone skinners mention most for mixed beasts, and the Haranir housing recipes that eat Void-Tempered Hide and Fantastic Fur are named after it. It is also the zone whose Majestic lure is the cheapest to make from fish in our datamine.

Zul'Aman: Levels 83-88, Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 15947
Zul'Aman (83 to 88) sits in the same band as Harandar. Its Majestic lure is made from Gore Guppy, a fish that was worth real money on its own when we checked.

Voidstorm: Levels 88-90, Unknown, Zone ID 16648
Voidstorm (88 to 90) is the top of the range. Fewer skinners early in a patch, more later.

- Level
- 80 to start in Eversong Woods; 88 to 90 for Voidstorm
- Profession
- Skinning; Leatherworking optional for crafting intermediates

No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.
What to do with a haul
- Split it into its fourteen markets. Four Void-Tempered materials in two grades each, plus six single-grade parts. Never list a Gold skin at the Silver price.
- Sell the Majestic Hide first and alone. Check it against Infused Scalewoven Hide; on 2026-10-08 the raw Hide beat infusing by about 749 gold.
- Pair-check Hide and Plating. If Scalewoven Hide is selling above Hide plus Plating, a leatherworker will want both.
- Watch Fur against Banding. Banding needs one Fur, and on 2026-10-08 the Fur was about 94 percent of a Banding's reagent cost.
- Hold bulk skins at their lows. Leather and Scales come back when crafters start a new batch of armor.
- Never vendor. The best vendor price on this page is 1 gold, and it belongs to items worth tens to thousands of gold.
Is skinning worth it in Midnight?
Skinning works best as a second profession you do while doing something else: questing, world content, delve entrances with beasts nearby. The bulk skins pay for your time in small amounts, and the rare parts occasionally pay for a whole week. If your main goal is steady gold, pair it with Leatherworking so you can turn cheap skins into Scalewoven Hide on days when the arithmetic works. If your goal is a lucky Majestic Hide, accept that luck is the right word: we have not measured the rate and nobody has published one we trust.
The honest gap in this guide is the same as every gathering guide on this site: the route. Until someone walks a timed loop with a full loot log, we will not print an hourly figure. You get the inputs instead: live prices, recipe demand and the arithmetic to decide what to sell, what to craft and what to hold.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
