The short answer

Midnight Jewelcrafting has one craft that clearly pays today and one reagent that ruins most of the rest. The craft is the higher rank Sin'dorei Lens, which sold for 175 gold23 silver live against a bill near 59 gold on 2026-10-08. The reagent is the Petrified Root, priced at 211 gold live, which every flawless gem cut and every Eversong Diamond needs. It made up about 70 percent of a flawless cut's bill on our snapshot, so flawless cuts sold below cost. The Kaleidoscopic Prism at the higher rank was the other winner. Plain cut gems from raw stones mostly sold for less than the raw gem plus its Glimmering Gemdust.

The Midnight gem family

Our datamine of client build 12.1.0.69933 lists five Midnight raw gems, four flawless gems, and one shared crafting powder, Glimmering Gemdust, which almost every Jewelcrafting recipe uses. Each exists at two quality grades.

On 2026-10-08 the four coloured raw gems and their flawless forms all sat within a gold of 21 gold at the lower grade. That is unusual. It means the lower grade flawless gem cost no more than a raw gem, so the flawless premium only shows up at the higher grade.

Glimmering Gemdust is the hidden cost

Glimmering Gemdust sold for 24 gold58 silver at the lower grade and 74 gold23 silver at the higher grade on our snapshot. It is in nearly every recipe on this page: one per plain cut, five per flawless cut, ten per Kaleidoscopic Prism and fifteen per Heliotrope. A jeweller who ignores the Gemdust line will think plain cuts are cheap, when the dust is more than half of their bill.

Plain cut gems: mostly a loss

A plain cut takes one raw gem and one Gemdust. That made the bill 45 gold6 silver to 46 gold7 silver on 2026-10-08. Here is every plain cut our tables priced, sorted by sale price:

Only two cuts came close to their bill: Quick Peridot and Masterful Amethyst. The rest sold for a fraction of what went in. The sale prices here are for the cut gem item our recipe table links, which is one of its quality ranks; the higher rank of each cut trades higher. Even so, the lesson holds. Do not cut lower grade gems for the Auction House unless you land the higher rank, and sell the raw gem instead when the cut sells for less than the stone.

Flawless cuts and the Petrified Root problem

Flawless cuts are the top tier of Midnight cut gems, rare quality in our item table, and the ones raiders socket first. Each takes one flawless gem, five Gemdust, three motes and one Petrified Root. Here is the bill for a Flawless Quick Lapis on 2026-10-08:

ReagentQtyUnit (2026-10-08)Line
Petrified Root1350 gold54 silver350 gold54 silver

Flawless Amani Lapis121 gold99 silver21 gold99 silver
Mote of Wild Magic360 silver1 gold80 silver
Total497 gold23 silver

The Root was 70 percent of the bill and the flawless gem itself was 4 percent. Now compare with what the flawless cuts sold for that day:

Flawless cutSale (2026-10-08)Share of a 497 gold bill
Flawless Quick Garnet347 gold70 percent
Flawless Masterful Garnet344 gold69 percent
Flawless Deadly Amethyst300 gold97 silver61 percent
Flawless Quick Lapis295 gold59 percent
Flawless Masterful Lapis290 gold58 percent
Flawless Deadly Lapis284 gold75 silver57 percent

Flawless Versatile Garnet225 gold99 silver45 percent
Flawless Masterful Amethyst224 gold45 percent
Flawless Versatile Lapis218 gold7 silver44 percent
Flawless Deadly Garnet180 gold36 percent

No flawless cut covered its bill. The root alone cost more than the best cut sold for. Until Petrified Root falls well below 200 gold, flawless cuts are a crafting order job, where the customer brings the root, not an Auction House job. Watch the strip at the top of this page: if the root price drops, recheck this table, because every flawless cut moves together.

Kaleidoscopic Prism and the Eversong Diamonds

The Kaleidoscopic Prism takes one of each lower grade flawless gem and ten Gemdust. That came to 331 gold14 silver on our snapshot: 85 gold34 silver of gems and 245 gold80 silver of dust. It sold for 220 gold at the lower rank and 474 gold87 silver at the higher rank, which gives a break-even yield of 1.51 prisms at the lower rank and 0.70 at the higher rank. So the prism pays at the higher rank on a single craft.

Prisms feed the Eversong Diamond cuts. Each takes one Eversong Diamond, one Prism and two Petrified Root. With two roots the bill hit 942 gold56 silver on 2026-10-08.

Indecipherable Eversong Diamond400 gold50 silver2.35
Telluric Eversong Diamond54 gold60 silver17.3
Stoic Eversong Diamond20 gold26 silver46.5

None of the diamond cuts paid. Powerful came closest. Sell the Prism instead of cutting it into a diamond yourself, unless a customer supplies the roots.

Sin'dorei Lens: the craft that pays

The Sin'dorei Lens takes one Glimmering Gemdust and three Crystalline Glass. Crystalline Glass priced strangely on our snapshot: the grade the lens recipe lists traded at 11 gold49 silver, while the other grade was listed at 107 gold. With the cheaper glass the lens bill was 59 gold5 silver. The lower rank lens sold for 36 gold31 silver, a break-even yield of 1.63. The higher rank sold for 213 gold72 silver, a break-even yield of 0.28. That is the widest gap between ranks in Midnight Jewelcrafting, and it makes the higher rank lens the best target for Concentration in the profession.

Lenses feed the Prismatic Focusing Iris (two lenses and two Gemdust, sold for 13 gold49 silver on our snapshot) and several Jewelcrafting and Inscription tools. Sell the lens, not the Iris.

Prospecting: what we can and cannot say

Raw Midnight gems come from prospecting ore and from mining, according to player reports. The gem yield per stack of ore is not in the client data and we have not measured it, so this page prints no prospecting rate. You can find your own break-even with one division: ore price times ore per prospect, divided by the value of the gems you got. The ore inputs on our snapshot:

OreLower grade (now)Higher grade (now)
Refulgent Copper Ore4 gold98 silver24 gold36 silver
Umbral Tin Ore5 gold65 silver19 gold60 silver
Brilliant Silver Ore5 gold21 silver21 gold31 silver

With raw gems near 21 gold and lower grade ore near 4 gold to 5 gold, a prospect only pays if the gems it produces are worth more than the ore you spent. Prospect twenty stacks, log the result and decide from your own numbers.

Midnight ore loop for a jeweller

Not walked yet

No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.

What to do first

  1. Learn the Sin'dorei Lens and spend your Concentration on it. The higher rank paid more than three times its bill on our snapshot.
  2. Craft Kaleidoscopic Prisms when you can hit the higher rank, and sell them instead of cutting diamonds.
  3. Do not cut plain gems for the market unless the cut sells above raw gem plus Gemdust.
  4. Take flawless cut crafting orders where the customer provides the Petrified Root.
  5. Keep an eye on Gemdust. A cheap Gemdust day lowers every bill on this page.

Risks and what to watch

Petrified Root is the swing factor. It is shared with Alchemy cauldrons, Blacksmithing weightstones and whetstones, Leatherworking armor kits and Tailoring spellthreads, so its price follows demand from at least five professions. A root crash would turn flawless cuts profitable overnight. Gem prices themselves were near their 14-day highs on our snapshot, which suggests rising demand from a new season; that can reverse quickly. And the lens margin depends on cheap Crystalline Glass. If the glass grade the recipe uses climbs toward the other grade's price, the lens loses its edge.

Selling gems without crashing your own market

Gems are commodities in Midnight, so one region wide market sets the price and every listing competes with every other. That has three consequences for a jeweller.

First, small batches beat big dumps. If you list twenty Sin'dorei Lenses at once and undercut the lowest price, you become the lowest price, and the next jeweller undercuts you. List five, let them sell, then list five more. The 14-day low and high on the strip at the top of the page tell you how far the price can fall before it is a bad time to sell.

Second, the higher rank and the lower rank are separate markets. A higher rank lens listed beside lower rank lenses at a lower rank price is simply a gift to whoever buys it. Check the item rank in your bags before you post, and post each rank against its own lowest price.

Third, the raw materials and the finished goods move on different clocks. Raw gems and Gemdust follow the supply from miners and prospectors, which rises after a patch adds new nodes or when many players level gatherers. Finished gems and lenses follow demand from raiders and crafters, which rises at season starts and raid openings. The best margins appear when those clocks disagree: cheap raw gems in a week when finished gems are in demand.

Common jeweller mistakes in Midnight

  • Ignoring the Gemdust line. It is more than half the bill of every plain cut. A jeweller who only prices the stone will think a cut pays when it does not.
  • Cutting flawless gems for the market. On our snapshot every flawless cut sold below its bill because of the Petrified Root. Do these through orders.
  • Turning prisms into diamonds. The prism was worth more on its own than the diamond cuts could recover after two roots.
  • Prospecting on autopilot. Without your own yield log, you cannot know whether a prospect beat selling the ore. Keep the log, and note the ore grade you used, because higher grade ore cost five to seven times as much on our snapshot.
  • Selling the higher rank lens cheap. It was the best item in the profession on our numbers. Price it against its own rank.
