The short answer

Blood Hunter is the fish Midnight cooks and anglers fight over. It trades at 7 gold10 silver on the US market right now, against a 14-day range in our history of 3 gold77 silver to 16 gold63 silver, so its price can jump several times over in a single evening. Five recipes in our datamine use it, more than any other Midnight fish, and the biggest single buyer is the Amani Cornucopia feast at twenty Blood Hunters per craft. If you catch Blood Hunter, sell it when it reads above its usual range and hold it when it sits near the bottom; cooking it into Braised Blood Hunter only paid when the fish itself was cheap.

Blood Hunter is a rare-quality fish with the same 12 silver50 copper vendor price as every other Midnight fish. Its tooltip gives no hint of its value. What sets it apart is the demand side: two cooking dishes, one feast and two fishing wards all ask for it, and no other fish in our extract has that many uses.

That last row is our own count: if a cook and an angler each crafted every recipe once, they would need 34 Blood Hunters. The feast alone takes twenty of them.

A fish that moves fast

The price behaviour deserves a section of its own. On 2026-10-08 our reads of the US commodity market gave Blood Hunter at 185 gold10 silver at one point in the day and 74 gold5 silver later that evening. Both are many times its 14-day high. Over the previous two weeks the daily price had stayed between 3 gold77 silver and 16 gold63 silver.

A move like that in a fish market usually means a handful of buyers cleared out the cheap listings at once: for example, cooks stocking up on feast reagents before a raid night, or a single crafter buying for a batch of wards. When that happens, the price floor jumps until new catches come in. You cannot predict the evening it happens, but you can be ready for it:

  1. Keep a small stock of Blood Hunter rather than selling every catch at the floor.
  2. Check the live price on raid nights and at the start of a new raid week.
  3. When it reads far above its 14-day high, list in small lots. The spike will not last.
  4. When it sits near its 14-day low, hold. You lose little by waiting.

Read the table by quantity and the feast dominates. Twenty fish per Cornucopia means one feast crafter can drain a thin Blood Hunter market in a few crafts, which is consistent with the spike pattern above. The wards are the second, steadier source: fishers buy them for their own use, and the Amani Angler's Ward needs nothing except two Blood Hunters.

Cook it or sell it: Braised Blood Hunter

Braised Blood Hunter is the one Blood Hunter dish with an Auction House price in our tables. Here is the bill at the evening's reading on 2026-10-08:

ReagentQuantityUnit price (2026-10-08)Line cost
Blood Hunter674 gold5 silver444 gold30 silver
Mote of Primal Energy270 silver1 gold40 silver
Tavern Fixings317 silver51 silver
Cooking Spirits310 silver30 silver
A Big Ol' Stick of Butter39 silver27 silver

That is about 446 gold78 silver in reagents, 99 percent of it Blood Hunter, against a sale price of 152 gold48 silver. On that evening, cooking threw away about two thirds of the fish's value. At the 14-day lows the picture changes: six Blood Hunters at 3 gold77 silver plus the small reagents come to about 23 gold54 silver, against a dish low of 18 gold. Still slightly under water, but close.

So the decision is all about the fish price:

  • Fish above its usual range: sell the fish. Cooking wastes most of its value.
  • Fish near its 14-day low and the dish near its high: cooking can pay. The dish's 14-day high was 52 gold98 silver, which against a cheap-fish bill near 24 gold is a clear margin.
  • Anywhere in between: do the six-fish sum with the two live prices on this page before you cook.

The Amani Angler's Ward

Amani Angler's Ward is a Fishing recipe that takes two Blood Hunters and nothing else. It sold for 56 gold52 silver when we checked, with a 14-day range of 25 gold to 45 gold. Its whole bill is two fish: about 148 gold10 silver at the evening reading, but only about 7 gold54 silver at the fish's 14-day low.

That makes the Ward the cleanest test of whether Blood Hunter is cheap. When two Blood Hunters cost less than one Ward, a fisher with the recipe should turn fish into Wards. When two Blood Hunters cost more, sell the fish. On the evening we checked, the fish won by a mile; across most of the previous fortnight, the Ward would have won.

The Blood Hunter Lure

The Blood Hunter Lure is made from five Gore Guppy and, by its name, helps you catch Blood Hunter. It sold for 3 gold60 silver. The five Guppies it takes were worth about 122 gold50 silver on 2026-10-08, so the lure costs far more to make than it sells for. Whether it is worth using depends on how many extra Blood Hunters it brings you, which we have not measured. If you use it, use it on a night when Blood Hunter is spiking, when each extra fish is worth the most.

Zul'Aman is home to the Amani, and three of the five Blood Hunter recipes carry Amani or Zul'Aman names (Amani Cornucopia, Amani Angler's Ward, Tokka's Multi-Ward), which fits the theme. Its Majestic lure is made from Gore Guppy, the same fish that makes the Blood Hunter Lure.

Why one fish outprices the rest

Blood Hunter is not the rarest fish in Midnight and it is not the only fish in a feast. What it has is breadth. It is the only fish in our extract that feeds a feast, two cooked dishes and two separate fishing wards. Each of those recipes has its own buyers with their own timing: raiders for the feast, cooks for the dish, anglers for the wards. When any one of them goes shopping, Blood Hunter is on the list.

Compare Lucky Loa, which also goes twenty at a time into a feast but has only one other use, or Hollow Grouper, which our datamine shows no recipe using at all. Breadth of demand plus a big single sink is what makes a fish valuable, and Blood Hunter has both. Our fishing overview ranks every fish by the same logic.

How to sell Blood Hunter

  1. Never vendor it. The vendor pays 12 silver50 copper, which is a fraction of even the lowest price in our history.
  2. Check two numbers first: the live price and the 14-day high. If live is far above the high, you are looking at a spike. List now, in small lots.
  3. Hold through quiet days. If the live price is close to the 14-day low, holding costs you nothing but bag space. The next feast night will come.
  4. List in small lots. Twenty fish is one feast. Posting your whole stock at once tells every buyer how much supply exists and invites undercuts.
  5. If you also cook, compare before cooking. Six fish against one Braised Blood Hunter, two fish against one Angler's Ward. Make whichever is worth more, or neither.
  6. Avoid buying the spike. Cooks who need Blood Hunter for a feast should buy on quiet days and keep a stock, not buy on the evening everyone else is buying.

What to watch on the Auction House

  • Raid schedules. Feast demand rises before raid nights, and the Amani Cornucopia is the biggest Blood Hunter sink there is.
  • Petrified Root. Every Midnight feast needs one, and it was the costliest single reagent in the feast bills we checked. When Root is expensive, fewer feasts get cooked and Blood Hunter demand softens. Our feast cost guide tracks it.
  • Gore Guppy. It is the input to the Blood Hunter Lure. If Guppy drops sharply, more anglers will craft lures and target Blood Hunter, which adds supply.
  • Braised Blood Hunter. If the dish's price climbs toward its 14-day high while the fish sits low, cooks will start buying fish to cook, and the fish price follows.

How this guide was written

Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
