Gold From Level 10 to 20 in WoW Forever: Wool, Medium Leather, Briarthorn and Tin

The second-zone materials priced from WoW Forever beta scans, the bronze smelting margin, and which early professions the client gives the most recipes.

Updated · By Christopher Lucas · WoW Forever beta, as of beta build 70291

The short answer

Level 10 to 20 is where WoW Forever starts paying in silver instead of copper. The two items to chase are Tin Ore at 3 silver and Briarthorn at 1 silver17 copper, both worth more than fifteen times their vendor price on the beta. Medium Hide is the sleeper: it sold at 5 silver23 copper against a vendor price of 1 silver25 copper, the opposite of Light Hide in the first bracket. Wool Cloth and Medium Leather are steady sellers rather than big ones. If you mine, combine copper and tin into Bronze Bars: on 2026-10-08 that smelt added about a fifth to the value of the ore it used.

The second-zone materials, priced

By level 10 you have left your starting zone for a second one: Darkshore, Westfall, Silverpine Forest, Loch Modan, the Barrens or Redridge. The mobs there drop Wool Cloth instead of Linen, beasts give Medium Leather and Medium Hide, and the gathering nodes move up a tier.

Ratios are our arithmetic on the 2026-10-08 snapshot; the strip above renders the newest scan. Silver Ore is listed last, out of ratio order, because it is not a farmable staple: in Classic it shows up as an occasional vein among tin. On the beta it had the highest ratio of anything here, so sell every piece you find, but do not plan a route around it.

The bronze margin, worked out

Here is the calculation that makes Mining the strongest gold profession in this bracket. The client's Smelt Bronze recipe takes one Copper Bar and one Tin Bar and returns two Bronze Bars. Smelting copper and tin are both one ore for one bar.

StepInputValue on 2026-10-08
Sell raw1 Copper Ore + 1 Tin Ore78 copper + 4 silver8 copper = 4 silver86 copper
Smelt to bars1 Copper Bar + 1 Tin Bar70 copper + 4 silver36 copper = 5 silver6 copper
Smelt to bronze2 Bronze Bar2 x 3 silver = 6 silver

Going all the way to bronze turned 4 silver86 copper of raw ore into 6 silver of bars, a gain of 1 silver14 copper or about 23 percent, before the Auction House cut. That margin exists because Tin Bar has almost no use of its own: our extract (build 70124) lists exactly one recipe that takes Tin Bar, and it is Smelt Bronze. Every bit of tin demand in the game flows through bronze. Bronze Bar, on the other hand, goes into 81 recipes, 46 of them new in Forever, and a character who crafted each once would use 749 bars. Blacksmithing alone owns 69 of those recipes.

  1. Mine copper and tin together; Loch Modan, Westfall, Silverpine and Darkshore all sit in the right range.
  2. Smelt both ores at a forge. Smelt Tin is a useful skill-up from 50 to 75 in the client, Smelt Bronze from 65 to 115.
  3. Combine into Bronze Bars, then compare the strip: if 2 silver69 copper times two is above 42 copper plus 3 silver, bronze still wins.
  4. List Bronze Bars in stacks during the evening peak, when Blacksmiths are online and levelling.
  5. If tin crashes toward its vendor price, stop smelting and sell copper raw instead.

Medium Hide: the reverse of Light Hide

In the first bracket, Light Hide sold under its vendor price. In this bracket Medium Hide did the opposite, selling at 5 silver23 copper against a merchant price of 1 silver25 copper. The client explains why: Cured Medium Hide, which takes one Medium Hide and one Salt, feeds 45 Leatherworking recipes, and 41 of those are new in Forever. That is nearly the whole list. Forever has given mid-level Leatherworkers a large set of new recipes, and every one of them pulls on Medium Hide.

Medium Leather is the bread and butter. It feeds 90 recipes (44 new), across Leatherworking with 54, Blacksmithing and Engineering with 16 each, and Tailoring with 3. On 2026-10-08 it was the second most listed trade good in the beta scans, with over eleven thousand units, so it always sells, but slowly at a low margin. Skin everything, sell the hides, and sell the leather in stacks.

Wool Cloth and the Tailor's bolt

Wool Cloth is the cloth of this bracket, and like Linen before it, most of its value runs through a bolt. The client's Bolt of Woolen Cloth takes three Wool Cloth. On 2026-10-08 three Wool Cloth cost 2 silver37 copper and one bolt sold for 3 silver39 copper, so a Tailor made about 1 silver2 copper per bolt. Bolt of Woolen Cloth goes into 51 recipes, 48 of them Tailoring and 22 of them new.

If you are not a Tailor, sell the raw cloth: you cannot make the bolt, and wool at 55 copper still beats the 33 copper vendor price by a wide margin. If you are a Tailor, turn your own Wool into bolts first and craft from those; the bolt is worth more than the cloth it eats.

The 10 to 20 herbs

Herbalism in this bracket is about two herbs. Briarthorn and Swiftthistle both sold for more than thirteen times their vendor price on the beta. Mageroyal and Bruiseweed are the volume herbs and sold lower.

Briarthorn843 silver95 copper
Swiftthistle812 silver
Bruiseweed841 silver89 copper
Mageroyal12762 copper
Stranglekelp802 silver75 copper

Mageroyal has the most recipes and the lowest price, which tells you supply, not demand, sets these numbers. Briarthorn and Bruiseweed are both needed by Alchemists for healing and mana potions, and both have four new Forever recipes. Swiftthistle has 27 units of total demand across just 8 recipes, which means a few recipes ask for several at once.

Which profession to take, by recipe count

If you have not chosen professions yet, here is what the client gives each one. These are ability counts in each skill line of our extract, which includes recipes plus a few training and passive entries.

Blizzard says Forever adds more than 600 new recipes across professions. Leatherworking and Blacksmithing have the largest lists, which is good news for anyone gathering what they eat: Skinning feeds Leatherworking and Mining feeds Blacksmithing. For a pure gold plan while levelling, pair a gathering profession with its crafting partner only if you will level the craft; otherwise take two gathering professions and sell to the crafters.

Where to level and farm, 10 to 20

The beta client ships maps for Darkshore, Westfall, Silverpine Forest, Loch Modan and Duskwood. Blizzard's own week one notes said all zone content through level 20 was open, plus two new dungeons: Hall of Thanes for levels 13 to 18 and Ruins of Lordaeron for 15 to 20. We have not walked a timed route in any of these zones.

The new dungeons and the biggest quest payout

The two dungeons Blizzard opened for this bracket are worth a look for money as well as experience. In the slice of the beta quest cache we hold, the single largest money reward belongs to Light's Justice, a level 22 quest from Ruins of Lordaeron (minimum level 15), which pays 45 silver plus a choice of reward. The next two largest belong to classic dungeons in the same range: Researching the Corruption in Blackfathom Deeps at 35 silver, and Serpentbloom in Wailing Caverns at 20 silver.

That matters because money from quests is the one income in this bracket that does not depend on the Auction House at all. A quest reward is fixed by the client and paid on turn-in. If the beta houses are flooded with tin and wool, a dungeon quest still pays the same. Pick up every dungeon quest in your faction's capital before you queue, and finish them in one run.

New in Forever: the Waylaid Crates

The beta scans also show a family of new items called Waylaid Crates, with a required level of 10 or 20 in the client: Apprentice, Journeyman and Expert crates of Ore, Herbs, Textiles, Ingots, Fabrics, Parts and Curiosities. They trade on the Auction House. On 2026-10-08 the Apprentice Textiles crate listed at 34 silver50 copper and the Journeyman Herbs crate at 13 silver. We have not opened one, so we cannot tell you what is inside or whether buying one is worth it. The Forever Legacy tree mentions turning in crates to the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics for Merchant's Favor, which may be the same system; treat that link as our guess until we test it. If you loot one, check the strip before you open or vendor it.

Selling checklist for this bracket

  1. Smelt copper and tin into bronze when the margin above holds.
  2. Sell Medium Hide raw unless you level Leatherworking.
  3. Sell Briarthorn and Swiftthistle first; hold Mageroyal for a better day if it is near 20 copper.
  4. Sell Wool raw unless you are a Tailor.
  5. Vendor greys that sit within a few copper of their scan price; check our vendor price guide for the full list.
  6. Keep Silver Ore and any Shadowgem: both sold above vendor on the beta, and the client gives Shadowgem 43 recipes (30 of them new) and Silver Bar 55 recipes (41 of them new).

What comes next

At level 20 you leave the most-played part of the beta. Silk, Heavy Leather, Iron and the Bronze-to-Iron transition are next, and that is also when you should start a riding fund. Our 20 to 30 guide covers it. If you skipped the starter bracket, the 1 to 10 guide has the sell or vendor basics. For gathering in more depth, read the best gathering professions to level with, and for quest money see quest gold in WoW Forever. The full lane lives on the leveling gold hub and every Forever page is on the WoW Forever gold guides index.

How this guide was written

Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. WoW Forever is in beta: every fact here is labelled with the client build it was read from and can change before launch. Read the full method or the about page.
