Gold From Level 30 to 40 in WoW Forever: Mageweave, Thick Leather, Mithril and Your First Mount
Mageweave, Thick Leather and Mithril priced from WoW Forever beta scans, the level 40 mount bill from client data, and the new Riverglades zone.
The short answer
Level 30 to 40 is the bracket where WoW Forever materials start selling for whole silver coins each and where you spend your first big sum. On the beta,
Thick Leather sold at 21 silver99 copper,
Mageweave Cloth at 30 silver45 copper and
Goldthorn at 29 silver25 copper, all more than ten times their vendor prices. Two refining calls go against instinct here: sell Mageweave raw rather than as bolts, and sell Truesilver as ore rather than bars. At level 40 the client prices every faction mount item at 20 gold, and you also need the riding skill, which you buy in game. The new Riverglades zone sits right in this range.
The 30 to 40 materials, priced
Between 30 and 40 you level in Stranglethorn Vale, Arathi Highlands, Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh, Alterac Mountains and, new in Forever, the Riverglades. Humanoids drop Mageweave, beasts give Thick Leather and Thick Hide, and miners find Mithril and Truesilver.

Thick Leather: the price leader
Thick Leather is the best single material in this bracket on both counts. It sold at 21 silver99 copper on the beta, almost thirteen times its vendor price, and our extract lists 112 recipes that use it, 79 of them Leatherworking. If one character crafted every recipe once, they would use 1,147 Thick Leather, the first material on our leveling pages to pass a thousand units of total demand. Forty-three of those recipes are new in Forever.
Thick Hide is the odd gap: on 2026-10-08 there were no beta listings for it at all, and the client's Cured Thick Hide takes one hide plus one Deeprock Salt. Cured Thick Hide feeds 45 Leatherworking recipes, 27 of them new. Until hides show up on the scans, a Skinner in this range should keep them for a Leatherworker friend or vendor them at 5 silver, which is not a bad floor.
Mageweave: sell it raw
Here is the first cloth where the bolt is worth less than the cloth it eats. The client's Bolt of Mageweave takes five Mageweave Cloth.
| Path | Value on 2026-10-08 |
|---|---|
| 5 Mageweave Cloth, sold raw | 5 x 25 silver = 1 gold25 silver |
| 1 Bolt of Mageweave | 75 silver50 copper |
| Loss from bolting | 49 silver50 copper, about 40 percent |
The arithmetic is ours, on one day of thin listings. The pattern still makes sense: raw Mageweave goes into 13 recipes outside Tailoring's bolt, and five of those are Blacksmithing recipes, which is unusual for cloth. That raw demand plus a small beta population keeps raw cloth scarce. Bolt of Mageweave feeds 83 recipes, 81 of them Tailoring, so the bolt has demand too, just not enough to cover five cloth. Sell raw. If you are a Tailor, buy bolts from the Auction House instead of making them, for as long as this gap holds.
Mithril and Truesilver: one smelt pays, one does not
| Ore | Raw price | Bar price | Gain from smelting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mithril | 11 silver89 copper | 12 silver98 copper | 1 silver9 copper, about 9 percent |
| Truesilver | 22 silver14 copper | 19 silver40 copper | a loss of 2 silver74 copper |
Mithril Bar is a solid smelt. It feeds 92 recipes, 54 in Blacksmithing and 37 in Engineering, and a character who crafted each once would use 921 bars. Smelt Mithril in the client sits at skill 175, so the smelt also levels Mining for anyone still climbing.
Truesilver Ore goes the other way: on 2026-10-08 the ore sold for more than the bar. That fits the earlier brackets, where rare ores often carried a premium over their bars on the beta. Sell Truesilver as ore.
The 30 to 40 herbs
| Herb | Vendor | Beta scan, 2026-10-08 | Scan to vendor | Recipes (new) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goldthorn | 1 silver50 copper | 25 silver | 16.7 to 1 | 16 (3) |
| Firebloom | 2 silver50 copper | 39 silver88 copper | 16 to 1 | 15 (6) |
| Wintersbite | 1 silver | 23 silver | 23 to 1 | 9 (5) |
| Fadeleaf | 1 silver25 copper | 7 silver33 copper | 5.9 to 1 | 11 (6) |
| Khadgar's Whisker | 1 silver75 copper | 2 silver78 copper | 1.6 to 1 | 10 (4) |
Goldthorn is the herb to chase: 15 of its 16 recipes are Alchemy, and it had a healthy number of units listed on the beta. Firebloom and Wintersbite sold higher but on very thin listings, under forty units each. Khadgar's Whisker is the warning sign of this bracket: plenty of recipes, almost no premium over its vendor price, which means herbalists are already bringing in more than Alchemists need.
Gems and enchanting materials in this range
Miners pull gems out of Mithril and Truesilver veins, and the beta split them into two very different groups.
Citrine sold at 35 silver, three times its vendor price of 8 silver, and the client gives it 35 recipes across Blacksmithing, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring, ten of them new. Jade, the other common gem of this tier, sold at exactly its vendor price of 7 silver even though it has 34 recipes and 18 of them are new. When a gem sells for its vendor price on the Auction House, the merchant is the better buyer, because the merchant does not take a cut. Vendor Jade unless the strip moves; list Citrine.
Enchanters do better still.
Vision Dust sold at 18 silver90 copper, and the client gives it 30 recipes, 26 of them Enchanting. Greater Mystic Essence sold at 26 silver97 copper on 2026-10-08, and the Large Glowing Shard at 3 gold75 silver, the highest price of any common reagent a level 30 to 40 character can produce. In Classic, those shards come from disenchanting blue items. If you are an Enchanter, every rare you replace while levelling is worth breaking instead of selling.
The level 40 mount bill
This is the purchase the whole 20 to 40 range has been building toward. The beta client gives every faction mount item the same numbers: required level 40 and a vendor buy price of 20 gold. That covers the classic horses, wolves, rams, mechanostriders, kodos, raptors, sabers and skeletal horses, and it also covers the new Skyborne Galestriders, such as the Empyrean Galestrider and the Regal Galestrider.
The riding skill itself is a separate purchase. Blizzard's edition notes say plainly that the riding skill is bought in game, and the client adds a Riding skill line with Apprentice Riding (for mounts that need skill 75) and Journeyman Riding (for swift mounts at skill 150). The training price is not in the files we have read. So the honest budget is 20 gold for the mount item plus the trainer's fee.
| What you buy | What the client says | Cost we can verify |
|---|---|---|
| Faction mount item (rare quality) | Required level 40 | 20 gold |
| Apprentice Riding | Allows mounts that need riding skill 75 | Not in our extract yet |
| Black War mounts (epic quality) | Required level 40 | 100 gold |
The Black War mounts in the last row carry a level 40 requirement and a 100 gold buy price in the client. In Classic they were PvP rank rewards; we have not checked what they require in Forever beyond level and price.
The Riverglades: a new zone for 36 to 44
The Riverglades is new in Forever. Blizzard calls it a mid-level zone roughly the size of Stranglethorn Vale, with nearly 200 quests. Our new-world extract (build 70058) lists it as a new zone on the Eastern Kingdoms map, with eighteen named subzones carrying explore levels from 36 to 44, plus The Forbidding Sea as a water area with no level: Meadowsbrook, Southern Watch and Wheeler's Grange at 36; Bristle Hills at 37; Farholde Keep, Sunnyglade, Powderfuse Port, Turner's Logging Camp, Elbrim's Farm, Ashwood's Fall, Rog'mar and Terral's Watch at 38; Eastwind Shore at 40; Windstead at 41; Bolder'ok and Krol'dok Stronghold at 42; and Forlorn Pit and Twilight's Shroud at 44.

Riverglades: Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 16591
That level spread is exactly this bracket. We do not yet have any Riverglades quests in our beta quest cache, and the zone is above the beta's current level cap, so we cannot price its quest rewards or say what it drops. One Riverglades item already exists in the client: the Farholde Scouting Report, with a required level of 38. With nearly 200 quests, the zone's quest money alone will matter at launch. Our new zones guide tracks it.

Stranglethorn Vale: Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 33

Alterac Mountains: Eastern Kingdoms, Zone ID 36
Alterac Mountains gets a new area in Forever: our new-world extract lists Old Dalaran Ruins with an explore level of 30. Arathi Highlands, Desolace and Dustwallow Marsh round out the classic choices. We have no timed routes in any of them on the beta.

A 30 to 40 checklist
- Sell Mageweave raw while the bolt is worth less than five cloth.
- Smelt Mithril; sell Truesilver as ore.
- Skin everything; sell Thick Leather in stacks, hold Thick Hide until it shows up on the scans or vendor it.
- Herbalists: Goldthorn first, Firebloom and Wintersbite when they appear, and vendor Khadgar's Whisker if the scan sits near its vendor price.
- Enchanters: a Large Glowing Shard sold at 3 gold75 silver on 2026-10-08. Disenchant your level 30 to 40 greens.
- At 40, train riding before anything else. Do not spend the mount fund on gear first.
Next comes gold from level 40 to 50, where Runecloth and Thorium appear. If you are just arriving, the 20 to 30 guide shows how to build the mount fund. Gatherers should also read the best gathering professions to level with. The whole lane is on the leveling gold hub, and every Forever page is on the WoW Forever gold guides index.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. WoW Forever is in beta: every fact here is labelled with the client build it was read from and can change before launch. Read the full method or the about page.
