Old Raid Transmog Runs: What the Drops Actually Sell For
Bind on Equip drops from old raids priced across 81 US connected realms from our own tables, raid by raid, with the sell or disenchant arithmetic and the risks.
The short answer
Old raid transmog is worth farming for the Bind on Equip drops, and only for those. In our datamine, the raids with the most tradeable boss loot are Ulduar, Firelands, Naxxramas, Icecrown Citadel and Trial of the Crusader, and every one of their Bind on Equip pieces had at least one listing on a US connected realm when we checked on 2026-10-08. The typical listing is in the low thousands of gold, the best pieces list in the tens of thousands, and the gap between the cheapest realm and the typical realm is enormous. What nobody can tell you from listings alone is how fast these pieces sell, and we will not guess. Recent raids are a different story: none of the Journal loot of Liberation of Undermine or Nerub-ar Palace is Bind on Equip, so those runs pay in appearances for your own collection, not in gold.
Which old raids drop gear you can sell
Most boss loot in the game is Bind on Pickup: it goes straight into your collection and cannot be traded. A smaller set of items is Bind on Equip, which means it can be mailed, traded and sold until someone wears it. We matched every item in the Adventure Guide's loot tables against the binding flag in our datamine of client build 12.1.0.69933, then looked up which of those Bind on Equip items were listed on US realms.
| Raid | BoE items in the Adventure Guide | Listed on at least one US realm | Median of realm medians | Highest item median | Realm listings counted |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ulduar | 23 | 23 | 1,371 gold | 11,932 gold | 949 |
| Firelands | 18 | 18 | see note | 400,000 gold | 882 |
| Naxxramas | 16 | 16 | 1,545 gold | 5,000 gold | 835 |
| Icecrown Citadel | 10 | 10 | 5,204 gold | 19,000 gold | 354 |
| Trial of the Crusader | 10 | 10 | 9,670 gold | 43,755 gold | 103 |
| Blackrock Foundry | 5 | 5 | 1,430 gold | 3,648 gold | 143 |
| Highmaul | 4 | 4 | 2,553 gold | 4,292 gold | 199 |
| The Eye of Eternity | 2 | 2 | 4,975 gold | 8,666 gold | 54 |
| The Obsidian Sanctum | 2 | 2 | 3,945 gold | 4,568 gold | 50 |
Note on Firelands: our datamine holds two item ids for several Firelands pieces with the same name. The second set (item ids that start with 171) lists far higher and on fewer realms than the original drops, and it drags the raid's averages up. We price the original drops separately below and do not use the second set to judge the raid.
The column to read first is "realm listings counted". Ulduar, Firelands and Naxxramas pieces are listed hundreds of times across the region, which means many players farm them and many realms carry stock. Trial of the Crusader has high prices but only about a hundred listings, so its market is thin in both directions: fewer competitors, and probably fewer buyers.

The drops worth knowing by name
These are the original-raid Bind on Equip pieces with the strongest realm medians in our tables. The low column is the single cheapest realm we saw, which shows how wide the spread is.
| Item | Raid | Realms listing it | Cheapest realm | Median realm | Highest realm |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trial of the Crusader | 18 | 999 gold | 43,755 gold | 358,432 gold | |
| Icecrown Citadel | 46 | 110 gold | 19,242 gold | 99,398 gold | |
| Icecrown Citadel | 38 | 1,999 gold | 14,326 gold | 159,999 gold | |
| Ulduar | 60 | 700 gold | 11,363 gold | 70,860 gold | |
| Firelands | 75 | 1,000 gold | 10,950 gold | 49,999 gold | |
| Icecrown Citadel | 44 | 500 gold | 10,473 gold | 134,521 gold | |
| The Eye of Eternity | 20 | 200 gold | 9,333 gold | 54,820 gold | |
| Ulduar | 43 | 95 gold | 6,500 gold | 49,765 gold | |
| Firelands | 57 | 614 gold | 5,000 gold | 399,999 gold | |
| Naxxramas | 52 | 224 gold | 5,000 gold | 36,830 gold | |
| Highmaul | 46 | 300 gold | 4,292 gold | 180,000 gold | |
| Naxxramas | 64 | 400 gold | 3,986 gold | 21,524 gold |
Two lessons hide in this table. First, the best-known farm pieces are not always the best sellers: Volcanospike is listed on 75 of 81 realms, so on most realms you will be competing with someone else's copy. Second, the cheapest realm is often below 10 percent of the median. Some sellers post at almost nothing to move stock fast, and some realms are simply saturated. If you are on one of those realms, the median means little to you.
Sell it or disenchant it?
Every one of these pieces can be disenchanted into an old enchanting crystal, and some players do that out of habit. Our live prices make the choice easy.
Lowest current buyout, US region commodity market, read from our Auction House tables. Verified
A Wrath of the Lich King epic disenchants into
Abyss Crystal, which sells for 1 gold20 silver. A Cataclysm epic gives
Maelstrom Crystal at 1 gold50 silver, and a Burning Crusade epic gives
Void Crystal at 1 gold58 silver. Compare that with even the cheapest realm in the table above: the lowest listing we saw for Putrescent Bands was 224 gold, many times the value of the crystal. Disenchanting a tradeable raid epic throws away almost all of its value. Disenchant only Bind on Pickup gear you do not want, and sell every Bind on Equip piece.
| Raid era | Crystal from an epic | Live crystal price | Cheapest listing in our table for that era |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burning Crusade | 1 gold58 silver | see the BoE flipping guide | |
| Wrath of the Lich King | 1 gold20 silver | 95 gold (Lifeforge Breastplate) | |
| Cataclysm | 1 gold50 silver | 40 gold (Glowing Wing Bracers) | |
| Warlords of Draenor | 11 gold | 100 gold (Choker of Bloody Flame) |
The arithmetic is not close in any row. Even the lowest asking price on the most crowded realm sits well above the crystal.
How to run old raids for gold
- Level
- 90 recommended; most raids from before Legion are soloable at max level for most classes (player reports, we have not timed clears)
- Gear
- Current Midnight gear
- Lockout
- Each raid and difficulty has its own weekly lockout
- Group
- Solo
- Pick raids with Bind on Equip loot. Ulduar, Firelands, Naxxramas, Icecrown Citadel and Trial of the Crusader lead our table. Recent raids such as Liberation of Undermine and Nerub-ar Palace have no Bind on Equip Journal loot in our datamine.
- Clear for collection and for gold at once. Bind on Pickup appearances still add to your Warband collection. Only the Bind on Equip drops are for sale.
- Check your own realm before you sell. Search each piece on your connected realm. If ten copies sit at the cheapest-realm price, your realm is saturated for that item.
- List one copy at a time. Price near your realm's going rate, not the region median above. Keep spares in your bank.
- Try a second realm. If your realm is flooded, see our BoE flipping guide for moving stock to a realm with a better price.
- Never disenchant a Bind on Equip piece. The table above shows why.
Legacy raid transmog loop
Not walked yet
No hourly gold figure is published here until this route has been walked end to end with a timer and a full loot log. Until then this page gives you the inputs (live prices and what drops) and leaves the arithmetic to you.

A worked example: a Carapace drops
Say you clear Icecrown Citadel and
Carapace of Forgotten Kings drops. Here is how to price it, step by step, using the numbers from our table.
- Search your realm. Our table shows the piece listed on 46 of 81 connected realms. If yours is one of the 35 without a copy, you set the price.
- Anchor on the median, not the top. The median realm asked 19,242 gold and the highest 99,398 gold. The top price is one hopeful seller; the median is the going rate.
- Look for a floor on your realm. The cheapest realm in the region asked 110 gold. If your realm has a copy near that, someone is clearing stock, and you will not sell above them until it is gone.
- Choose a first ask. With no copy on your realm, a first listing a little under the regional median is a fair test. With competition, go one copper under the cheapest copy that is not obviously bait.
- Shortest duration first. If it does not sell in a day, drop the price by a tenth and relist, or try the realm-moving approach in the flipping guide.
The same five steps work for every piece on this page. The only numbers that change are the realm count and the spread.
Who buys old raid transmog
Old raid pieces are bought for their look, not their stats. That shapes demand in a few ways worth knowing:
- Distinctive pieces outsell plain ones. A helm or a weapon with a famous silhouette tends to list higher than plain bracers from the same raid. Our table agrees: the top medians are a cloak, chest pieces, a helm and weapons.
- Armor type matters less than you think. Since appearances are learned for your whole Warband, a collector may buy a plate piece for one character and a cloth piece for another. Do not skip a drop because your class cannot wear it.
- Set pieces sell to set hunters. Completing an old tier look is a common goal, so a missing set piece can be worth more on a realm where several collectors are chasing it.
- Transmog rules can shift demand. Our news feed carried a report on 2026-09-13 that transmog across armor classes is planned for patch 12.2.5. If that ships, plate and mail looks open up to more characters, and demand for distinctive pieces may rise. We will rerun this table after it lands.
What we do not know
We do not know drop rates. Blizzard does not publish them, and we have not logged enough clears to estimate them, so this page does not print a gold figure for a raid run. We also do not know sell-through. Our tables show that a piece is listed and at what price; they do not show how many copies sold last week. A piece listed on 75 realms at a median of 10,950 gold might sell daily or sit for a month. The honest way to find out is to list a copy on your realm for the shortest duration and see what happens.
Recent raids: appearances, not gold

Liberation of Undermine and Nerub-ar Palace are legacy content now that Midnight is current, and they are popular with transmog collectors. In our datamine none of their Adventure Guide loot is Bind on Equip, so every boss drop goes into your collection and nowhere else. Run them for appearances, mounts and achievements. If gold is the goal, the older raids in the first table are where it is.

How this guide was written
Prices on this page are read live from TheWoWDB Auction House tables when the page loads. Item names, icons, zones and art come from our own datamine of the game client. We do not publish gold-per-hour numbers for any route nobody has walked and timed, so where a rate would go this page says so. Read the full method or the about page.
