Numbers on this page are computed from the Retail (Midnight) client, build 12.0.7.68887. Applies to live retail realms.
Draft in review. This route is computed and verified against the game client, but the writing has not had its final editorial pass, and the page is kept out of search until it does.
Tailoring in Midnight runs 1 to 100 on the current expansion's skill tier, and the route to get there is short: two recipes carry the whole climb, for an expected 187 crafts and a buffered 225. This guide gives you the exact bracket route, the craft counts computed from the current Midnight client data, and a shopping list with the RNG buffer already built in.
This covers the Midnight tier of Tailoring only, the skill band that opens with the current expansion. It does not touch earlier expansion tiers, and it does not cover Knowledge Points or specialization trees. Our data does not include the specialization tree layout for this build, so for that side of the system check your in-game profession page. What follows is the crafting route: which recipes to make, in what order, and how many.
What you need
Two recipes cover the entire 1-100 climb:
- Bright Linen Reagent Satchel, from 1 to 50
- Chic Silvermoon Pillow, from 50 to 100
How the craft counts work
A recipe gives a guaranteed skill point while it is orange, a shrinking chance while it is yellow, and nothing once it goes gray. The expected craft counts below come from that math applied to each recipe's actual color windows in the Midnight client data (build 12.0.7.68887). Expected means average: half of all runs need more than this. The Buy column adds 20 percent on top, and the shopping list below uses those buffered numbers.
Only 2 of the 78 recipes in the Midnight Tailoring tier are needed to reach 100. That is a property of how this tier's recipes are built, not a shortcut we took: several Midnight recipes carry very wide orange windows, some staying guaranteed almost the whole way to 100, so the mathematically optimal route needs far fewer stops than a classic-style ladder.
The route
| Skill | Craft | Expected crafts | Buy (+20%) | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-50 | Bright Linen Reagent Satchel | 102 | 123 | Bright Linen Bolt x8 |
| 50-100 | Chic Silvermoon Pillow | 85 | 102 | Sunfire Silk Bolt x8, Arcanoweave Bolt x8 |
Chic Silvermoon Pillow is the recipe that carries you from 50 to 100: orange until 85, gray at 100. It was also the only recipe our data found that covers skill 50 at all, common-reagent or not, so it is used here regardless of reagent tier. Its two cloth reagents did not resolve as common-tier in the client data the way the first bracket's did. Check auction availability of Arcanoweave Bolt before you commit to this bracket; it is likely a more recent, less abundant cloth than Bright Linen.
Total shopping list
Buffered quantities, so this list already includes the 20 percent RNG cushion.
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Bright Linen Bolt | 984 |
| Sunfire Silk Bolt | 816 |
| Arcanoweave Bolt | 816 |
Where this route differs from what you'd expect
Midnight is new content, so there is no established published Tailoring route to compare this against yet, and this guide makes no claims about what any other source says. Two things about our own numbers are worth flagging instead.
First, the two-recipe route is real, not a placeholder. If you expected a long ladder of a dozen recipes the way older expansions play out, Midnight Tailoring's recipe windows are simply wider, and the math collapses the optimal path down to two stops.
Second, the 50-100 recipe is a fallback pick, not an ideal one. Our path-selection rule prefers recipes where every reagent slot resolves to a common-tier item, and at skill 50 no such recipe existed in the data. Chic Silvermoon Pillow was the best available option regardless, and its reagent commonality score reflects that. If a more common-reagent recipe unlocks at 50 in a later patch, this bracket is the one that changes.
FAQ
How many crafts does 1-100 Tailoring take in Midnight? 187 on average across both recipes, with the shopping list built around the buffered total of 225. RNG in each recipe's yellow window means an unlucky run can land higher.
Why does this route only use two recipes? Midnight Tailoring has 78 recipes in its tier, but most of them are not needed. Bright Linen Reagent Satchel and Chic Silvermoon Pillow each carry a wide orange window, and between them they cover the full 1-100 range with the fewest total crafts.
Does this guide cover Knowledge Points or profession specializations? No. Midnight professions use Knowledge Points and specialization trees to affect recipe quality and output, but our data does not include the specialization tree layout for this build, so that side of the system is left out here rather than guessed at. Check your in-game profession page for the current tree.
Why does the second recipe get flagged instead of just listed like the first? Because the data behind it is genuinely different. The first recipe's reagents all resolved to common-tier cloth; the second recipe's reagents did not. Both recipes are correct and craftable, but only one of them was picked for having cheap, common materials. The other was picked because nothing else covered that skill range.
Does this route work on every realm and region? The counts here come from the Midnight client data itself (build 12.0.7.68887), not from any server-side or realm-specific source, so the recipe windows and quantities should hold across realms and regions on that build. A future balance patch that changes trivial thresholds would change the numbers, and this page gets recomputed when that happens.
When this guide changes
The craft counts and color windows come from the Midnight client, build 12.0.7.68887. Midnight is early in its patch cycle, and profession recipe tuning is one of the things Blizzard adjusts during a new expansion's first months. If your in-game recipe shows different orange or gray thresholds than described here, assume a patch moved them and check back.
