Midnight Engineering Leveling Guide (1-100)

Numbers on this page are computed from the Retail (Midnight) client, build 12.0.7.68887. Applies to live retail realms.

Draft in review. This route is computed and verified against the game client, but the writing has not had its final editorial pass, and the page is kept out of search until it does.

Engineering in Midnight runs from 1 to 100, and the current recipe pool collapses that whole climb into two crafts. This guide gives you the exact bracket route, expected craft counts computed from the live retail client, and a shopping list with an honest RNG buffer built in.

It applies to any retail realm running the Midnight profession tier. The numbers below come directly from the game's crafting data, not from estimates or community folklore.

What you need

This guide covers the crafting route only: which recipes to craft, in what order, and how many times. Modern professions also gate throughput through Knowledge Points and specialization trees, and recipes carry a 1 to 5 star quality rating. We do not hold that data for Midnight yet, so this guide does not advise on point allocation or specialization choices. If you want that layer, check your profession page in game; treat this route as the reagent math underneath it.

Both recipes on this route are learned through the Engineering profession UI once your Midnight tier is unlocked. You will need four Trade Goods reagents across the whole route: Evercore, Aetherlume, Song Gear, and Soul Sprocket. All four are gatherable or purchasable commodities, not crafted intermediates.

How the craft counts work

A recipe gives a guaranteed skill point while your skill sits below its yellow threshold, a shrinking chance once it turns yellow, and nothing once it goes gray. The expected craft counts below come from that math applied to each recipe's real color thresholds in the Midnight data. Expected means average: half of all runs need more than this. The Buy column adds a 20 percent buffer on top, and the shopping list totals use those buffered numbers.

The route

Only two recipes cover the entire 1-100 climb. This is not a shortened version of a longer route: Midnight's recipe windows are wide enough that a maximum-coverage path genuinely only needs two crafts, and that is reflected honestly below rather than padded out with filler recipes.

0-80: B0P, Curator of Booms. Guaranteed until skill 70, then a shrinking yellow window from 70 to 80. The first 70 points cost exactly 70 crafts; the last 10 points are where the buffer earns its keep, since that stretch alone accounts for roughly 30 of the 120 buffered crafts. Single reagent, five Evercore per craft.

80-100: Ambient Aethercharged Crystal. Guaranteed until skill 85, gray at 100, so this bracket carries you to the cap. This is the only recipe available at skill 80 that reaches 100, and it was not the cleanest option on reagents: one of its four reagent slots did not resolve to a common-tier candidate in our data, so treat the Song Gear and Soul Sprocket costs as the ones worth double-checking against your own Auction House or gathering node availability before you commit to the full buffered count.

Why this route only uses two recipes

Classic-era and MoP Classic profession guides on this site run 10 or more brackets, because those recipe pools have narrow, staggered color windows that force you to hop recipes every 15 to 30 points. Midnight Engineering does not work that way: several of its recipes carry trivial windows wide enough to cover most of the 1-100 range on their own, and the maximum-coverage path only needs two of the 100 recipes in the tier to reach skill 100. If a published route for this profession lists more than two or three stops, it is very likely leveling by convenience or flavor rather than by minimum craft count, not by a different set of thresholds.

The second bracket is also the one spot in this route where the ideal recipe was not available. At skill 80, no recipe in the current data set resolves every reagent slot to a common-tier candidate, so the route uses the best available option and flags it here rather than presenting it as a clean pick.

FAQ

How many crafts does 1-100 Engineering take in Midnight? 155 crafts on average across both recipes. RNG in the yellow windows of each bracket means a real run can land higher, which is why the shopping list carries a 20 percent buffer.

Why does this route only use two recipes? Midnight's recipe pool has unusually wide guaranteed and yellow windows compared to earlier expansions. A path that maximizes skill-per-craft only needs two recipes to cover 1 to 100, so that is what this route uses instead of adding stops for variety.

Does this guide cover Knowledge Points or specialization choices? No. We do not hold that data for Midnight yet, so this guide sticks to the crafting route: which recipes, in what order, and how many. Check your profession page in game for point allocation and specialization advice.

Will this route work on any retail realm? Yes. The recipes, thresholds, and reagents come from the shared Midnight client data, so they are identical across every retail realm and region running the current build.

Why does the 80-100 bracket need four reagents instead of one? Reagent count scales with recipe complexity in the modern crafting system, not with how far into the tier a recipe sits. The second recipe simply has a longer reagent list than the first.

When this guide changes

The craft counts and color windows come from the retail client, build 12.0.7.68887. If a future patch changes recipe thresholds or adds recipes to the Midnight tier, the route gets recomputed from the new client data and the update noted here.
