Numbers on this page are computed from the Retail (Midnight) client, build 12.0.7.68887. Applies to live retail realms.
Draft in review. This route is computed and verified against the game client, but the writing has not had its final editorial pass, and the page is kept out of search until it does.
Midnight Cooking runs from skill 1 to 100 on the current expansion's profession tier, and the entire climb is covered by a single recipe. This guide gives you that recipe, the expected craft count computed from the current retail game data, and a shopping list with an honest RNG buffer built in.
It applies to live retail realms running build 12.0.7.68887. Cooking's Midnight tier sits on top of the Legacy tiers from earlier expansions; this guide covers the Midnight 1-100 climb only.
What you need
Retail Cooking skill is tracked per expansion tier, not as one long 1-600 total the way Classic and MoP Classic run it. This guide covers the Midnight tier's own 1-100 climb, which is separate from whatever skill you already hold in older expansion tiers.
Retail professions also layer Knowledge Points and specialization trees on top of raw skill, and recipe quality runs on a 1-5 star scale. Our data does not hold the Knowledge Point unlock order or the specialization tree, so this guide sticks to the craft route: what to make and how many. For the Knowledge and specialization side, check the in-game profession page.
The whole route uses three reagents, all Trade Goods-class herbs: Mana Lily, Azeroot, and Argentleaf. There is nothing else to buy and no vial or container material involved.
How the craft counts work
A recipe gives a guaranteed skill point while it is orange, a shrinking chance while it is yellow, and nothing once it goes gray. The expected craft count below comes from that math applied to the recipe's actual color window in the current game data. Expected means average: half of all runs will need more. The Buy column adds about 20% on top, and the shopping list uses that buffered number. If you hit 100 early, you keep the leftover herbs and the feasts.
Midnight Cooking's one recipe is orange for the entire 1-99 range in the current data, so there is no yellow taper to plan around here: every craft up to skill 99 carries a guaranteed point.
The route
1-100: Blooming Feast
Blooming Feast is available from skill 1 and stays orange all the way to 100, so this is a straight guaranteed climb with no RNG until the very last craft.
| Material | Per craft | Expected (100 crafts) | Buy (+20%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mana Lily | 5 | 500 | 600 |
| Azeroot | 5 | 500 | 600 |
| Argentleaf | 5 | 500 | 600 |
Total shopping list
Buffered quantities, so this list already includes the roughly 20% RNG cushion.
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Mana Lily | 600 |
| Azeroot | 600 |
| Argentleaf | 600 |
Why this route is one recipe, not a bracket ladder
Every other guide on this site for older expansions runs through eight to fourteen recipes across a long bracket ladder, because older tiers have narrow orange windows that force you to switch recipes every 10-30 points. Midnight's Cooking recipe pool does not work that way: the current game data shows Blooming Feast carrying a guaranteed skill-up window that covers the entire 1-99 range by itself, so the mathematically correct route is one recipe, start to finish. That is a property of how this tier's recipes were built, not a shortcut or a gap in the data. There is no separate published route to disagree with here, since this is retail's current tier and every number above is computed directly from the live client.
FAQ
How many crafts does 1-100 Midnight Cooking take? 100 crafts on average, since the recipe is orange for the whole range and only the final craft to 100 carries any chance element. The shopping list still carries a 20% buffer to cover that last stretch and any unlucky rolls.
Why does this guide only use one recipe? Because the current game data shows Blooming Feast's skill-up window spanning the entire 1-99 range. Switching recipes mid-route would not save crafts or materials; it would just add complexity for no benefit.
Do Knowledge Points or the specialization tree change this route? They affect what your Cooking can do once you are at 100 (recipe unlocks, quality, throughput), not the raw skill-up math for getting there. This guide covers the climb to 100; check the in-game profession page for Knowledge Point and specialization choices.
Can I use or sell the Blooming Feasts I craft while leveling? Yes. They are a normal consumable output, not a byproduct you have to discard, so anything you do not need for leveling is still usable or sellable.
Does this route apply to every retail realm? Yes. All live retail realms run the same Midnight client, so the recipe, its skill-up window, and the reagent list are identical everywhere.
When this guide changes
The recipe, its skill-up window, and the craft counts here come from the current retail client (build 12.0.7.68887). If a future patch adjusts Blooming Feast's thresholds, adds a new Midnight Cooking recipe, or changes its reagents, this route gets recomputed from the new client data and the update is noted here.
